Environmental Awareness Seminar towards a sustainable and eco-friendly school and environment was held on 26 February 2016 at Sto. Nino National High School which was participated in by fifty (50) students, thirty (30) teachers, nine (9) Representatives from the Office of the City Enro and

two (2) Barangay Officials of Brgy. Sto. Nino, Batangas City. The seminar aims to educate and make the participants be aware on the environmental challenges and develop skills to identify and enable them to resolve the problems. Ms. Rysa Deron, OIC of the Environmental Education and Information Section, discussed

the effects and causes of Climate Change and help them develop a better understanding on the degradation of our environment and what things could still be done to prevent or reduce Climate Change being a student, teacher or as an individual.

Ms. Severina Oandasan, educated the participants on RA 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act and the proper disposal of wastes in our household, in schools and when outside our home.

To give the students a deeper insights on environmental challenges, an Essay Writing and Poster Making was also conducted during the training. wherein twenty students voluntarily participated on the contest. Judges for both contests were First Gen Clean Energy Complex and MHPS representatives, Office of the City Enro representatives and the School English Teachers.

Winners of the Essay Writing were First- Julie Ann C. Makatigbak, Second- Hazel M. Cantos and Third-Jodie Mae C. Ruiz.

Four (4) students were chosen as Winners on the Poster Making Contest, Fourth-Norman D. Catapang, Third- Chelsea C. Ebora, Second-Rhine I. Ferolino and

First Place- Jerald C. Custodio.

The event has been successful with the support of external partners - First Gen Clean Energy Complex, MHPS, Inc., and Sardido Industries.
