Chaplain’s Message

Fellow Knights,

Sincere thanks

to the members of

Santo Nino Coun-

cil who along

with the Pilon

Family, erected

the Blessed Sacra-

ment Parish outdoor Christmas

Crib. I always feel with all the

commercialism surrounding Christ-

mas, here in Regina, our outdoor

Christmas Crib is a “silent sermon”

to all the pedestrians who pass our

Church on Scarth Street, about the

true meaning of Christmas.

Congratulations to Dr. Eu-

sebio Koh on the publication of his

latest book called Autumn Wind,

which is a collection of short sto-

ries, poems and essays similar to

his first book, Like the Mimosa.

At our Blessed Sacrament Remem-

brance Day Mass I read one of the

poems from Like the Mimosa. It

is called ‘Coming Home’ and it

described the death of a twenty two

year old Saskatchewan man who

died in combat in Afghanistan.

Karen Lawson, who re-

viewed Autumn Wind wrote: “The

author has opened his heart and his

mind to his readers. Autumn

Wind is an interesting book with a

new surprise on every page.” High

praise indeed!

Message from our Grand Knight

Brother Knights, This year, our council was blessed with

great achievements and activities. We are

proud to once again receive the STAR

COUNCIL AWARD under the leadership of

our past Grand Knight Pete Escanlar. This is

the 9th award received for the last 12 years

since our council was chartered. With this,

I’d like to thank all of you for your contribu-

tion in achieving this award.

I would also like to thank our vibrant members who tire-

lessly participated in our activities this year. The first golf tour-

nament was a great success, thanks to all our golfers and to Gary

and Diana for the prizes. Another great soup was served at the

at the Marian Centre, thanks to Bro. Ferdie snd Anna Mae Fe-

liciano and Bro Noel Quinton. We embarked into a pilgrimage

with Our Lady of Guadalupe and our council is honoured to

have our Lady’s icon displayed at Blessed Sacrament Church

and Saint Mary’s Church, thanks to all who prayed the rosary

and attended the novena and mass in honor of our Mother

Mary. I’d like to thank Fr. Tubale for celebrating the masses.

On Saturday before Advent, we set up of the Nativity Scene at

Blessed Sacrament, thanks to all our brothers and the Pilon fam-

ily who braved the cold and helped.

As we begin this Advent season, let us be reminded of our

faith and be prepared for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On behalf of my family, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a

Blessed New Year.

VIVA JESUS!

Gregg Ravasco Grand Knight

Message from our District Deputy

My Brother Knights,

Congratulations on another very excit-

ing Fall Season, as your Council celebrates a

number of accomplishments these past several

months. You have been blessed with a number

of new members, as seen in the community cele-

bration of First, Second and Third Degree Exem-

plifications. I had the pleasure of sharing the

inaugural celebration of our new Major Degree

ceremony with many of you as well; this was an exciting day and

one that I will cherish as a personal memory as a Knight.

I hope that you have all had a chance to read our Worthy

State Deputy's November message, where he discusses the impor-

tance of conviction and standing for our beliefs during challeng-

ing times. As the Martyrs accepted the ultimate test of their faith,

we are often challenged in our daily lives to take a stand for our

beliefs, sometimes even when it may not be the most popular

position. We remain true to our faith and the principles of our

Church, strong in our resolution and faith in those that guide

us. A reminder that there is a Men's Spiritual Enrichment Week-

end on March 16-17, 2012 at Holy Child Parish, here in Re-

gina. Please try to attend if you can. As we begin another Ad-

vent season, let us grasp this opportunity to grow stronger in our

relationship with our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

VIVAT JESUS! Kevin Roche

New at Advent

A few days ago, the new Roman Missal was used at the

Holy Mass on the first Sunday of Advent. I understand that the

Vatican wants the English translation to be linguistically faithful

to the original Latin Mass. With due respect to our Church and

its hierarchy, I’d like to express some reservations.

As a cradle Catholic, I would like to voice my uneasi-

ness at rephrasing many of the liturgy and Eucharistic prayers

that have become second nature to me. I know virtually all the

responses during Holy Mass. I can recite The Lord’s Prayer, Hail

Mary, and other prayers in my sleep. Now I have to be careful

and say the right words. For example, when Father says “Peace

be with you”, I should reply “And with your spirit” not “And also

with you.” For the Mystery of Faith, I am used to saying, “Christ

has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.” But now I have

to learn some other responses. Also, I kneel down and pray as

soon as I receive the communion. Now I have to stay standing

until all have received theirs. Old habits are hard to break.

I hope and pray that we learn the new missal and get

used to it. For now, let me wish you a “Merry Christmas” and

“Peace be with your spirit”.
