ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION
It's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability
to live on the earth-
The air we breathe,
The water that covers most of the earth's surface,
The plants and animals around us, and much more.
WHAT WAS THE STATUS OF ENVIRONMENT ?
PAST ENVIRONMENT
Green fields
Fresh air
Pure drinking water
Season regularity
Regular rain fall
Fertile soil etc.
PRESENT ENVIRONMENT
Barrel lands
Polluted air
Scarcity of water
No seasons regulation
Acids rains
Polluted soil etc.
Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surroundings;
which brings about changes that affect our normal lifestyles adversely.
POLLUTANTS:
Pollutants are the key elements or components of pollution which are
generally waste materials of different forms
HOW MANY TYPES OF POLLUTION ARE ?Pollution occurs in different forms
Air
Water
Soil
Noise
Light etc.
Every form of pollution has two sources of occurrence;
The point sources : Point sources are easy to identify, monitor and control.
The non-point sources : Non-point source hard to control.
From this today we are seeing about the major problems that India was
facing . They are
•AIR
• WATER
•SOIL
Contamination of the air, irrespective of indoors or outside. A physical,
biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as
pollution. It occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the atmosphere
and makes it difficult for plants, animals and humans to survive .
Air pollution can further be classified into two sections:
• Visible air pollution and
• Invisible air pollution .
CAUSES:1. Burning of Fossil Fuel
2. Agricultural activities
3. Exhaust from factories and industries
4. Mining operations
5. Indoor air pollution
1.Respiratory and heart
problems
2.Global warming
3.Acid Rain
4.Effect on Wildlife
5.Depletion of Ozone layer
6. Natural sources and
Man-made sources.
1.Use public mode of transportation
2. Conserve energy
3.Understand the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
4.Use energy efficient devices
Water pollution is one of the major problem after the air pollution in India. It
may be defined as permanent damage caused to water by mixing wastes.
Water pollution is further classified as
Agricultural source of pollution (chemical fertilizers ,pesticides ,insecticides ,etc)
Industrial source of pollution(paper , textile , sugar cane factories , etc)
Marine pollution (dumping of radio active waters, oil spills , etc)
Domestic source of pollution(soaps , detergents, etc…)
CAUSES:1. Industrial waste
2. Accidental Oil leakage
3. Burning of fossil fuels
4. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides
5. Animal waste
• Death of aquatic (water) animals
• Disruption of food-chains
• Diseases
• Destruction of ecosystems
•Polluted drinking water
SOLUTIONS :1.Do not pour fat from cooking or any other type of fat, oil, or grease down the
sink.
2. Avoid dispose of household chemicals or cleaning agents down the sink or
toilet.
3. Avoid thronging flush pills, liquid or powder medications or drugs down
into the water sources.
4. Avoid using the toilet as a wastebasket.
5.Using of high quality metallic barrels for transport on oil.
Land pollution, in other words, means degradation or destruction of
earth’s surface and soil, directly or indirectly as a result of human activities. The quality
of the land as an ideal place for agriculture, forestation, construction etc are reduced. The
degradation of land that could be used constructively in other words is land pollution.
CAUSES :1. Deforestation and soil erosion
2. Agricultural activities
3. Mining activities
4. Overcrowded landfills
5. Industrialization
6. Nuclear wastes
1. Soil pollution
2. Change in climate patterns
3. Contamination of food
4. Effect on human health
5. Cause Air pollution
6. Distraction for Tourist
7. Effect on wildlife.
1.Reduce, Recycle and Reuse
2. Reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers in agriculture
3. Avoid buying packages items
4. Buy biodegradable products
5. Do Organic gardening and eat organic food that will be grown
without the use of pesticides.
6. Create dumping ground away from residential areas
