ENVIRONMENT IN DHAKA CITY & MY LOCALITY Introduction: Bangladesh is the small country.Dhaka is thecapital of Bangladesh.it is the big city.many

types of people lives here.dhaka has a long story.

It was founded during the 10th century. It served as the Mughal capital of Bengal from

1608 to 1704.Before coming under British rule in 1765 it was a trading center for British,

French, and Dutch colonialism . In 1905 it was again named the capital of Bengal, and in

1956 it became the capital of East Pakistan. During the Bangladesh war of independence

in1971 the city suffered a heavy damage. In 1982 the spelling was changed from ' Dacca'

to 'Dhaka'. becoming the hub of the nation's industrial, commercial, cultural, educational

and political activities.Dhaka is located in one of the world's leading rice- and jute-

growing regions. Its industries include textiles (jute, muslin, cotton) and food processing,

especially rice milling.

A variety of other consumer goods are also manufactured here. The Muslim influence is

reflected in the more than 700 mosques and historic buildings found throughout the city.

The University of dhaka (1921) and several technical schools and museums are located

here. At Tongi Teigaon, Demra, Pagla, Kanchpur the industrial establishments turn-out

daily necessities. Motijheel is the main commercial area of the city. Dhaka's major

waterfront Sadarghat is on the bank of the river Buriganga and is crowded with all kinds

of rivercraft, yatchs, country boats, motor launches, paddle - steamers, fishermen's boats

all bustling with activity.Colourful rickshaws (tricycle) on the city streets are common

attractions for the visitors.Some of the outstanding tourist attractions of Dhaka .

Area: 815.85 Sq. kilometers.

Climate : Tropical, with heavy rainfall and bright sunshine in the monsoon and warm for

the greater part of the year. The winter months, from November to February, are

however, most likeable, cool.

winter- 31.7°c 10.5°c

Population: 10 million.

minar,lalbag etc.these places are used for amusement for the people.

Problems of Dhaka urban area: We all know that Dhaka city is at 11th position among all the mega city in the word.But

this city is not decorated in a planned way.So,there are lots of problems in Dhaka

city.Population problem,traffic problem,environment pollution etc are the major

problems that people have to face regularly.

Dhaka city is one of the most populated cities.People are increasing here everyday.So,the

free spaces are decreasing respectively.As all the people are moving towards to Dhaka so

it can be easily said that one day it will be very tough to move freely in Dhaka.Trffic jam

is another major problems of Dhaka city.One can easily say that Dhaka is not decorated

in a planned way by facing traffic jam in Dhaka city.Regular people have to face traffic

jam.

One can see the picture of traffic jam from the Farmgate overbridge or from Magbazar

overbridge. People of Dhaka city can not go to office timely only for this traffic

jam.Student can not reach their schools or colleges or universities in the scheduled

time.As Dhaka city is one of the big mega cities,this kind of dangerous condition of

traffic system of Dhaka is not really expected .

one of the major problems in Dhaka city.Sound pollution is creating from the

vehicles.Air is getting polluted from the industries.and obviously,underconstruction

building are making serious pollution.The people of Dhaka city can not get fresh air of

nature.People have to take polluted air which is bad for health.For the vehicles it is really

tough for pass sometimes outside of home.On the other hand underconstruction buildings

make serious sound pollution.Water pollution is also one of the problems of Dhaka

city.People never have the fresh water for drinking.If one wants to drink water safely he

or she has to refresh the water.Otherwise it will affect seriously to the health.I think

Dhaka city is one of the dusty cities of the world.

Garbage collecting system is not very good here in Dhaka city that is why this city is

beseted with so dusty.As a mega city the roads and other places of Dhaka city should be

neat and clean but the scenario of Dhaka city opposes the rules.my are garbage collection

is not verry good.collection not regularly.

Like other cities of the world Dhaka citgy also beseted with crimes.Regularly crime is

occurred in most of the places of Dhaka city.People can not move freely to an

independent country because of crime.Girls always lost their valuable things due to

crime.People can not choose CNG as their transportation due to crime.So,after all it can

be said what the hell this city is.So Dhaka urban areas are beseted with these kinds of

dangerous problems.

Represent my living area: The area I will represent is West Tezturi Bazaar that is situated at Farmgate area in

Dhaka city.The area is under the Tejgao Police Station.The The area is situated almost at

the centre of the Farmgate area.The famous Karowan Bazaar is very close to my

area.Bashundhara city which is one of the biggest shopping mall of Bangladesh is also

situated close to my area.As Farmgate is the centre point of whole Dhaka city so I live in

such a place from where I get the better facilities then other area of Dhaka city.But in this

area there are some disadvantages also.Overall,this place is a good one for maintaining a

comfortable life .Because whatever one needs for his or her daily life can easily get

without going to a long distance.

The area is one of the busiest area of Dhaka city.Because,main branch of many coaching

centres is situated in this area.So,this place always remains busy.The main facility I get

from this area is the transportation facility.I live in this kind of area.This is the area that I

want to represent through this assignment mentioning the facilities and the demerits of

this area.

My home: My home is situated at West Tezturi Bazaar at Farmgate Dhaka..So,sortly West Tezturi

Bazaar,Dhaka.It is very much easy to locate my house.It is behind the UCC coaching

centerl.I think almost everybody knows about this coaching centre.West Teztury Bazaar

is situated behind this coaching center.Other easy way to locate my home is it is near the

Farmgate Grameen Phone Centre.There is a mosque named West Tezturi Bazaar Zame

Moque in West Teztury Bazaar.My home is very much close to the mosque.I think this is

the easiest way to find my home.

Under construction building: Though I live in a area that gives me the best transportation facilities but it is not a neat

and clean area.Many things pollute the area in many ways.Underconstruction buildings is

also responsible for creating pollution in this area.In my area there are two

underconstruction buildindgs.One is near the Grameen Phone Centre and another one is

near the UCC coaching center.The main pollution that the underconstruction buildings

creates is sound pollution.It is very much tough for the people of this area to lead a

peaceful life. The sounds from the under construction buildings cerates a serious

problems when it is a time to sleep.As the labour works all through the day and

sometimes all through the night,sound pollution is now an usual thing for the people of

my area.But when it is a time to sleep in that case it is not tolerable.

On the other hand as it is under construction building so sometimes the work is stopped

due to the instructions that is given by the contractor or to make the building stronger.So

there remains water for a long time.And mosquitoes get the chance to increase their

number.For this we have to face a problem.That is,the people have to face the serious

disease like dengue.It is known to all that Dhaka city is a city of mosquito also.But I

think my area is the best area for the mosquito to make a home.

Earlier I mentioned that the area is not neat and clean mosquito is a companion of this

area .But when the building construction was started from then the mosquitoes started to

increase their number at a high rate.So we are not in a good condition facing this kinds of

problems. In this way the under constructions buildings in this area create the pollution.

Hospital & Clinic: In farmgate there is one hospital which is situated near the Concord Tour near the main

road.name of the hospital is al-razi. I personally think that the hospital is not in a sound

environment that it is needed.Though the hospital is very much neat and clean but as it is

near the main road so it is usual that there might be sounds from the vehicles.So it is a

sorrowful for us that we r not having a hospital which is in a environmentally clean ares.

The hospital is not situated in a good areas.But it is a good side of this hospital that it

disposes its wastages in a garbage.The garbge collectors comes in our area and the

hospitals maintain a good schedule to give their wastages to the garbage collectors.In that

hospitals there are many people only to kee the hospitals neat and clean.The hospital is

very much sincere about this important issue.It is a good side for our area.Other

institution are not very much sincere about this issue .That is why farmgate is a beseted

with dusts .But the hospitals is maintaining a very good routine to keep the hospital as

well as its area vey beautiful.

Positive & Negative Sides: My living area is a beautiful place in Dhaka city. There are some positive sides and

negative sides in my area.I think the positive sides are more significant than the negative

sides.There are mosque,school,college,university,clinic,hospital,park,

Picture of park in my area good communication,super market,field,bank,and others etc in my area.So,people of my

area get the best facilities without going a far distance for maintaining their regular

lives.From the park people get the fresh air.They can do their physical exercise going to

this park.On the otherhand,markets,shopping mall etc are very close to my area.So,people

can easily buy their essential things.These are the advantages of my area.Besides some

positive sides my area has some negative sides also.First of all the process of garbage

collection of my area is not much good.So,I earlier I mentioned that my area is not so

much neat and clean.As it is a busy area as well as a commercial area,the businessman

always wants his company in this area.So,we have to face the disadvantages of the

underconstruction buildings.Overall,the positive sides are noticeable.

Conclusion: My living place is beautiful.The environment of my area is very good.Dhaka city is a big

city but the most populated place of Dhaka city is Farmgate.This place provides me with

some advantages and some disadvantages.But I feel I get the advantages more than the

disadvantages.
