Two days Entrepreneurship Awareness Program
The two days Entrepreneurship Development Program (EAP) for engineering Graduates was
organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell(EDC) of Mangalore Institute of
Technology & Engineering (MITE) in association with the Institution Innovation Council and
the New Age Innovation Network of the Department of IT, BT, S&T, Government of
Karnataka. The EAP was inaugurated by Mr. K Socrates, Deputy Director, MSME DI,
Mangaluru. Inaugurating the event, Mr. Socrates stressed on the need for students to be
ambitious and said that Intelligence without ambition is like a bird with no wings. Ambition
becomes habit and habit becomes a way of life, this is crucial for entrepreneurs to succeed he
said. In his presidential address, Dr. G L Easwara Prasad, Principal of MITE spoke about the
entrepreneurship ecosystem at the institution and the vision of the institution to handhold
young graduates who aspire to venture into businesses. He urged the students to constantly
evolve, explore and exploit from what they learn. Dr. Joseph Michael Jerard, Head of MITE
EDC welcomed the gathering and Mr. Glenson Toney, Manager, MITE Incubation Center
hosted the event. MITE has been organizing Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps every year
since 2017 in association with NSTEDB, Government of India.
Day 1: Session 1: Startups- An ocean of opportunities for young graduates
Mr. K Socrates who delivered the keynote address spoke about the opportunities for young
graduates to pursue entrepreneurship in the changing times, and stressed on the need for
exploring them. He also talked about the characteristics of an entrepreneur & their undying
passion and also hinted at the paradigm shift that India is witnessing where young men and
women are inclined towards entrepreneurship.
Page 9
Day 1: Session 2: What does it mean to be an Entrepreneur?
If you can dream, you can do it, said Mr. Praveen Desai and Entrepreneur addressing the
students. He spoke about the outlier approach of entrepreneurship, Innovation as a game
changer and the process of venture formation. HE spoke about the reasons why ventures fail,
and about the 8P’s of Entrepreneurship: Passion, Perseverance, Perception, People,
Proactiveness, Permanent change, Persistent learning & Potential.
Day 1: Session 3: Story of Blackfrog Technologies
Page 10
Mr. Donson spoke about the challenges of being an entrepreneur and how it fuels their
journey and helps life not to be monotonous unlike the ones who opted for a job. The
interactive session had Mr. D’Souza talk about building the right team, hiring the right
people, starting off on your own. He spoke about times when as an entrepreneur he wanted to
give up, how he rose above the odds and dealt with family pressure being a first generation
entrepreneur. Donson urged students to keep their passion alive and follow dreams for the
journey isn’t easy but would be very satisfying.
Day 2: Session 1: Start-ups- An ocean of opportunities for young graduates
Mr. Sundar Sherigar spoke about his journey and how a few experiences changed his vision
about entrepreneurship. HE asked students to have the intent clear, explore opportunities and
schemes of the government, streamlining ones business, using technology to analyse the
business path. He spoke about the business requirement for building a successful venture:
Free memory, Sharing knowledge and Trust.
Day 2: Session 2: From graduate to an Entrepreneur
Mr. Prajwal spoke about the shift from being a student to an entrepreneur. He spoke about the
need for entrepreneurs to have an out of the box thought process, thorough knowledge of
what one wants to do and need for building the right team. Human resource management is
the most important factor and would indeed lead to success of a start-up he added. Start-ups
also need to revamp and reinstate themselves with changing times and technologies to sustain
and make themselves relevant he said.
