Year 2 Home Learning Focus – 29.06.2020 Spelling Focus Today we are going to revisit a spelling pattern we have looked at before, adding the suffixes –er and -est. Remember if a word ends in a short vowel sound (a, e, I ,o ,u) and a consonant. We double the consonant before adding –er or –est. English – Fantastic Mr Fox This week we are going to be completing lots of fun activities to do with the book ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl. Today we would like you to focus on reading or listening to chapters 1 and 2. If you don’t have the book, don’t worry because the link below has the story in full. See if you can create your own setting map to show where Fantastic Mr Fox and the other farmers live. Use the vocabulary at the bottom of the sheet to help you. If you can’t go outside, not to worry, try to complete these activities using indoor objects instead. For an extra challenge, see if you can make a 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 sided shape using indoor or outdoor materials. Reading Read with your child for at least 20 minutes a day. Remember to try and ask your child questions about the text that they are reading. Here are a few ideas to help you. • Trip to Drusillas • Indian drumming workshop • Cricket workshop • Rugby workshop • Bushcraft • All your fun learning If you’re finding this a bit tricky… Spellings – Try to practice 4 spellings. See if you can read and write them, this will help you to know them confidently. English – Listen to the chapters and tell an adult what they are about. Maths – Use either indoor or outdoor materials to make a circle, square, triangle and a rectangle.
