You can learn more about how Americans live just by looking at the backgrounds of YouTube videos—those rumpled bedrooms and toy-strewn basement rec rooms—than you could from 1,000 hours of network television.”

YouTube (a Google subsidiary) is a popular video sharing website. It allows users to post and view videos over the web for free. You Tube has played a significant role in letting users get information out in the “raw” to a large audience causing disruption in communications media around the world.
Second Life is a virtual world in which users, from around the world, can meet and interact through motional avatars. They can also do business using virtual money called “Linden Dollars” which is exchangeable for US Dollars. A Business Week 2006 cover story appeared about a Second Life entrepreneur. It featured how he became the first Second Life Millionaire by selling virtual goods on the web site.
