INTRODUCTION Nowadays in this world all are very busy with their
tight schedules. Men have no time to spare. The collection of tolls on toll plaza is a time consuming process due to traffic congestion and it causes inconvenience to the public.
Thus we have thought of Electronic toll collection system. Here the priority is for time and efficiency. The need for manual toll based system is completely reduced in this method and the tolling system works through RFID technology.

EXISTING SYSTEM
All vehicle has to stop at toll plaza along the highway to pay the toll, one person collect the money and issue a receipt, after which gate is opened either mechanically or electronically for the driver to get through the toll plaza. Another is smart card system in which driver show a smart card to access the data to the system installed on toll plaza to pass.

DRAW BACK OF EXISTING SYSTEM
This type of system for collecting toll tax is time consuming method; there is long queue of vehicle at toll plaza chances of escaping the payment of toll tax.

PROPOSED SYSTEM
This type system is simple in construction; provide automatic toll collection and vehicle theft detection. Using RFID Tag.
Electronic Toll Collection is the good example of this type of system.

ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM ETCS is an Electronic toll collection system that will
allow user to make the payment of highway tolls automatically. In this we do the identification with the help of radio frequency. A vehicle will hold an RFID tag. This tag is nothing but unique identification number assigned.
This system is capable of determining if the car is registered or not, and then informing the authorities of toll payment violations, debits, and participating accounts.

TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE ETC SYSTEM An ETC system commonly utilizes radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology .
RFID stands for Radio‐Frequency Identification
RFID is an automated data-capture technology that can be used to electronically identify, track & store information contained on a RFIDtag. RFID technology was first introduced in 1948.

RFID TAG An RFID tag, or transponder, consists of a chip
and an antenna. A chip can store a unique serial number or other information based on the tag’s type of memory, which can be read-only, read-write, or write once read-many(WORM).
A chip that transmits and receives radio waves is called Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit

RFID READER A reader uses its own antenna to
communicate with the tag,
Readers can process multiple items at once, allowing for increased read processing times.

HOW DOES RFID READER WORKS The reader puts radio frequency signals in a
relatively short range for activation of tag and read and writes data into it. When this tag comes in electromagnetic zone it detects the activation signal from reader. Then the tag transmitting information to the reader and then it is sent to microcontroller which is then interfaced with net beans and jdk java kit for toll reduction from customers account.

BENEFITS OF ETC SYSTEM RFID tag cannot be cloned, so cannot be
cheated. Very efficient saving of time. Wastage of money reduced. Consumption of fuel is reduced. Pollution is reduced to a large extent. Speedy transport. Less congestion on the roadways. Comparatively less maintenance cost

APPLICATIONS
Automated Vehicle Identification. Automated Vehicle Classification. Transaction Processing (Toll Calculation). Can be used to trace the vehicle if this
system is centralized. Parking system.

LIMITATION OF ETC SYSTEM
Load sensing for long length vehicle becomes critical.
If RFID fails whole system fails.

FUTURE SCOPE OF ETC SYSTEM IN INDIA Designed a system to give complete solution
for traffic and transport related problems such as Toll gate control , traffic signal control, traffic rules violation control, parking.
Compare to normal manually system is better and in this we can further to implementing to every vehicle owner having the one tag that tag is contain total information of vehicle.

FASTAG NHAI has rolled out program for Electronic
Toll Collection on Toll Plazas on National Highways to be called FASTag.
FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it

CONCLUSION Electronic toll collection using RFID technology. RFID is a
highly stable and reliable technology. The RFID automatically detect the identities of the vehicles, reading items in motion and tracking of the vehicles can be done accurate. With the elimination of human interaction in the entire toll collection process and also reduction of time at toll plaza, we can create a better ETC system to be implemented.
By doing automation of toll plaza we can have the best solution over money loss at toll plaza by reducing the man power required for collection of money and also can reduce the traffic indirectly resulting in reduction of time at toll plaza.
