Kitchen orks trace their origins back
to the time o the Greeks. These orks were airly large with two tines thataided in the carving and serving omeat. The tines prevented meat romtwisting or moving during carving andallowed ood to slide o more easilythan it would with a knie.
By the 7th Century CE, royal courts
o the Middle East began to use orksat the table or dining. From the 10ththrough the 13th Centuries, orks wereairly common among the wealthy inByzantium, and in the 11th Century,a Byzantine wie o a Doge o Ven-ice brought orks to Italy. The Italians, however, were slow to adopt their use.
It was not until the 16th Century thatorks were widely adopted in Italy.
Forks were brought rom Italy toFrance when Catherine de Medicismarried the uture King Henry II. TheFrench, too, were slow to accept orks, because using them was thought to bean aectation.
