PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents/Carers

These truly are exceptional circumstances. The challenges of working from home, students completing at home learning tasks, uncertainty for many with jobs, medical operations, social distancing, shortages of essential grocery items and so much more, totally flipping our lives. My staff have worked really hard to provide At Home Learning packs and online platforms for your child to access, and are continuing to develop more of this work for the weeks to come, just in case, as well as getting in touch with you to best support you any way we can. Children are aware of what is happening with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we all are to different extents. It is really important is to reassure children, to listen to their concerns. We do not have all of the answers, but it is often just good to listen and try to understand how our children are thinking and processing this situation. I urge you to enjoy this time with your children and family. We do not know what is ahead, but can only hope for a bright future soon. It is important to enjoy times to laugh together, to share in everyday moments with each other. This may be a challenge for some, even the children, as we are so used to our normal routines, friends, social life, sports etc. For our children to grow into resilient, strong, problem solving, creative individuals who will search for success, we need to invest time in them ourselves. We need to listen to them, believe in them, trust them, let them make mistakes and recognise what to do when this happens.

Class News K6M

Well this has been an interesting end to term one. We were lucky enough to welcome a new student into our class last week. Izaiah started last Monday and met Lucas E and is super keen to meet the rest of his new classmates when we are all able to join up again. I have heard some great stories and seen some sensational work that the students are sharing with me through Dojo or our Google Classroom. Below is an example of some of the work coming through our Google Classroom.

Spy Fox and the Crazy Crocodile By Tyler-James

Spy fox was spending his day off in the gym with his friend, Wally Walrus the Plumber, when his watch started to beep and flash. “Sorry, Wally, I have to go,” Spy Fox said with regret. He quickly left the gym and hopped into his spy car, pressing the button for the car to transform from normal mode to spy mode. He was headed towards Sydney Australia, where a crazy crocodile named Captain Teeth was plotting global destruction from his lair, a giant building in the shape of a toilet. Spy Fox arrived in time to see the toilet rise up and transform into a global destruction robot with steaming red eyes at the cistern. Suddenly the boot of the spy car popped open and Wally the Walrus came out in a spectacular pose. Spy Fox gave him an incredulous look but was grateful for the help when faced with such an adversary. Working together the two friends were able to disable the giant robotic toilet from its source of power… the plumbing system which Wally knew everything about. Water continued to gush out of the top of the toilet bowl, drenching people in disgusting toilet water. Spy Fox remembered how his toilet at home had once been blocked with too much toilet paper and he looked around for something to shove into the robotic toilet’s bowl. Spy Fox took one of the nearby bushes, lining the road and shoved it in the robotic toilet, and then shoved a few more for good measure. The robotic toilet spazzed out of control and then flew into outer space and towards the moon. As it went, all Wally and Spy Fox could hear was… “I cannot believe you foiled me again, Spy Fox!” from the defeated Captain Teeth. Wally and Spy Fox returned to the spy car, this time Wally decided to sit in the passenger seat next to his friend. “What a good way to finish a day off,” was all Spy Fox said after he had defeated the bad guy.

K6B News K6B have taken their schoolwork home with them and are getting stuck into learning at home.

The class are working through their Home Learning packs and also logging into Reading Eggs and Mathletics, just like at school. The feedback from parents has been positive, with some saying they are enjoying seeing a different side of their child and getting new insights into their learning.

Keep up the great work everyone!

3/4 B Class News

The last couple of weeks,

3/4B have been settling

into our remote learning

from home.

Our focus in Maths has

been fractions. The

students have used our

Google Classroom to

access the online tutorial video, complete their work and

then take a photo of their work or submit it through the

Classroom so I can see what they are up to.

It has been an adjustment for all of us and we are

learning as we go. The afternoon sessions of our day,

students choose activities from a grid to complete like

making a kite, researching the Prime Minister from 100

years ago, developing a

healthy menu for the

entire family or inventing

a new game for outside.

The students have also

taken the opportunity to

quickly type a hello to

their classmates and

friends in the Classroom

and share some news or

a photo of their pet.

Keeping up connections

if possible is great for the

kids.

Class News 2F

In 2F we were off to a great start

to the year and were working as a

great team of enthusiastic

learners.

In the weeks prior to isolating and

social distancing restrictions, we

had been writing about Edwina

the emu and some non-fiction reports about emus.

In Maths we had enjoyed working on multiplication and

representing multiplication in a variety of ways

including, groups, arrays and repeated addition. We

also did some work on measuring area and had lots of

fun measuring the area of the classroom in square

metres. We explored fractions of whole objects

matching objects, to labels as well as ordering them.

At the moment everyone should be working on the Take

Home Learning packs for the rest of this term. At school

the teachers have been exploring options for delivering

learning to everyone next term.

I have enjoyed being able to communicate with parents

and students via ClassDojo and at the moment this is

probably the best way to contact me if you have a

question about your child’s learning and I will message

or call you back as soon as I can. I have also been

learning a lot about working and learning online or

remotely and it has been a bit of fun using more of the

features of ClassDojo.

I have particularly enjoyed seeing the writing that

students have submitted. It is pleasing to see students

still working on their learning at home.

I wish everyone a safe holiday and look forward to

seeing all of you when

things return to

normal.

P&C Newsletter Week 10 Term 1

Massive Thanks A massive thanks to all the teachers and staff who have been working in very difficult conditions over the last couple of weeks. We really appreciate they have put in to prepare the take home packs and work out the technology to do remote learning. It goes without saying this will be very different period of time for our students, parents, carers and teachers. Whilst we won’t be able to be physically connected, I encourage everyone to stay connected via School Stream, Google Classrooms, Class Dojo and Facebook. Working Bee Postponed Due to the social distancing rules in place at the moment we will have to cancel the planned working bee for this Sunday – please keep an eye out for updates.

Important note from Tuff As Workwear Tuff-As Workwear have recently been informed that due to the coronavirus in China, the hooded jumpers which were due for delivery this month have now been delayed until later in the year.

The reason for the delay is that factories are currently operating at 15% instead of their full capacity. Whilst this is an unfortunate circumstance which is out of Tuff-As Workwear's control, they do have the new full zip polar fleece

jumper available instore and also the current BVPS jumper is available for a discounted price of $22.50. We would also like to thank Tuff As Workwear for donating Easter Eggs to go towards our Easter Egg Raffle. We are still seeking donations from our families so if you can spare an egg or two please drop them into the front office ASAP. School Stream App The P&C is very supportive of the school’s move to start using the School Stream App. You can download this App for free at the ITunes store or the equivalent App store for non-Apple phones. The School will use this App to get information like newsletters, bus breakdowns, absent notes, excursion details etc out to parents. Once you have downloaded the App you will be able to sign up to Bega Public School and get all the alerts in real time as they are posted.

Facebook Please join the schools Facebook page, it is a great source of information about what is happening in the school. Information from the school will go out on School Stream and the info from the P&C will go out on Facebook, so make sure you join both.
