“ For me NAWIC means Support. I
find support in my NAWIC sisters that I can’t find anywhere else. They can relate to the challenges I face on my projects and appreciate the successes I have.
I originally joined NAWIC to network with women in my industry, make friends, and to participate in community service activities. The friendships I have made keep me coming back. I also see successful women in this organization and I believe they help inspire me to be more successful in my work and life.

OCTOBER: “Skills Gap” presented by Jerry Baker ● WE Bowman Construction
With the U.S. unemployment rate hovering around 8% and millions of people desperately looking for jobs, why are many employers claiming they can’t fill their vacant positions?
The answer: A skills gap that threatens the sustainability of businesses around the world. And while a big part of the skills gap is a shortage of people skilled in the STEM (science, technology, education, and math) industries, there also is a gap in soft skills such as communication and advanced leadership skills.

My Dear NAWIC sisters … I am overwhelmed and humbled at the outpouring of love and support I received during my father's illness and passing. The flowers were beautiful! The cards, call, texts, notes of encouragement and especially the prayers meant the world through these last few months. It has been a difficult journey and I cannot thank you all enough! Also so many of you came to the funeral home and the funeral. I am so grateful. It was so comforting seeing you all and feeling the love and support. You are all amazing women and I am so blessed to be a part of this wonderful group. I so look forward to getting back to being more involved and seeing all of you regularly. Again, from the bottom of my heart - thank you. - Love, Debbie Vass

Fireplace Tips With cold weather approaching, please keep the following in mind to protect you and your family when using a wood burning fireplace. • Never leave a fire unattended
• Only use for short durations; typically no more than 5 hours
• Use a chimney cap to keep animals, weather and debris out of the chimney
• Clean the firebox weekly and have the chimney swept or inspected yearly (or after about 80 fires)
• Keep a non-flammable material on the floor in front of the fireplace to keep sparks from igniting
• Keep flammable materials away from the fireplace opening
• Check and update as necessary any smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
