Ohio - A crew filming a new John Travolta movie has started work in Colum-bus.On Wednesday a fictional governor played by actor Patrick St. Esprit was filmed on the west steps of the Ohio Statehouse as part of the movie called “I Am

Wrath.” He was joined by more than 100 extras who stood for several hours in 45-degree weather for multiple takes. Travolta wasn’t in the scene. The

Columbus Dispatch reports that the crew also was scheduled to film inside the Statehouse, and then move on to

other locations in Columbus Wednesday. Filming on the $10-million project is expected to last into mid-April.Travolta is portraying a man out for justice after a group of corrupt policemen are unable to catch his wife’s killer.

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bund-chen, who has reigned supreme on runways for two decades, is retiring from the catwalk to spend more time with her NFL star quarterback husband and their children.

The 34-year-old blonde beauty -- the world’s highest-paid model who has strutted her stuff for many of the top labels in the business -- will make her final sashay down the catwalk in Sao Paulo next month.”Gisele will focus on special projects and also spending more time on her number one priority: her family,” her sister and representative Pa-tricia Bundchen said in a statement.”She is already cutting back on catwalk ap-pearances and will bid adieu to shows in her own country during the Colcci brand presentation at Sao Paulo Fashion Week.”Bundchen posted a message to her Facebook page, thanking fans for their support.”Thank you for all the love. A kiss in your heart and have a beautiful day!!!!” she wrote.Speculation about Bundchen’s future had been rife since media reports emerged last week indi-cating she would make her final runway

appearance at the April 13-17 Sao Paulo event (SPFW), where she has been a fixture throughout her career.Bundchen -- who Forbes says has been the world’s highest-earning model for the past eight years, with $47 million in earnings last year -- is expected to turn her focus to print ad campaigns.Bundchen is married to New England Patriots star Tom Brady, with whom she has two young children, Benjamin and Vivian. She has worked with the likes of Chanel, Valentino, Ver-sace, Louis Vuitton, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga and Carolina Herrera. She has also many times been a Victoria’s Secret “Angel”. Bundchen said in a recent interview she wanted to spend more time with her US-based family. The supermodel often publishes pictures on social media showing her with her children.”Gisele appeared at the first edition of SPFW 20 years ago and it is an honor for us that she has chosen the same event to call it a day,” event director Paulo Borges told AFP.”We are also very happy to see a Brazilian professional come such a long way with an extensive and respected career.” With her wil-

lowy and athletic build, Bundchen built her success on sheer hard work as she kept up a strict and professional routine from the outset.

Of German descent, she hails from the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, home to many Brazilians of European extraction.”She has a great sense of pro-fessionalism. She knows how to make decisions, how to get involved. She treats everybody with respect and never arrived late for a commitment, neither in the early days, nor when she made it to the top,” Borges reminisced.Bundchen started off her modeling career at the ten-der age of 14, and swiftly became a big name as major houses queued up to have her front their campaigns.Only recently, she signed her largest ever contract -- worth more than $25 million, according to Forbes -- with US sports apparel firm Under Armour. Bundchen has recently been promoting her own lingerie line, ‘Gisele Bundchen Intimates,’ launched in 2011 for Brazilian label Hope and told Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper in an interview that she planned to open her own boutiques.

Based on the results of the coor-dination with the Liaison Officer of

the Indonesian Police in Singapore, it was ascertained that in fact they are being detained at Changi Prison. When they arrived in the country, their passports were examined, and their stamps were alleged to be fake. They were immediately arrested and processed according to the rules in the country. “They were arrested on February 17, 2015” he said.

As follow-up of the case, they stood trial in the local court and the verdict was made on 26 Febru-ary. The couple were sentenced to three months in prison. “They are still serving their sentence” said officer Hery.

However, this officer from Yog-yakarta cannot reveal the chronol-ogy of the stamp forgery, including whether they forged the stamps

themselves or whether there was other people involved in the case.

As previously reported, the ram-pant disappearance of Indonesian citizens, alleged to have joined with the ISIS made 61 year old I Wayan Suwi worried because his family ( I Wayan Setiawan with his wife Ni Nengah Ardani) had gone missing in Malaysia.

According to the report made to the Bali Police Integrated Service Center on Saturday (Mar. 14) by Suwi from Malet Tengah hamlet, Bangli, the incident started when

the couple joined a city tour pro-gram to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia on Febuary 15th. Accord-ing to their Lion Air plane tickets with booking code ZSZTZM and flight number JT281, they arrived in Johor, Malaysia on February 19th. AmlApUrA — Kadek Dewi Santiari, 16, from Labuan hamlet, Antiga village, Manggis subdistrict, has not gone home for seven days. The young girl has been missing since March 12th when she said goodbye to her family to go work at Labuan Amok Beach, located not far from her home. Allegedly the young girl who speaks two foreign languages was rushed by a foreign guest. The missing girl had been seen by a relative, at a hotel

on Jalan Nangka Denpasar .I Made Arianta, 45, father of

Dewi Santiari, is anxious about the fate of his daughter. This innocent young girl has been gone from home for six days. Arianta reported the incident to the police on March 13 after his daughter did not come home and was hard to contact. “She went missing on March 12, she could not be reached by phone the next day”, he explained on Wednes-day (Mar. 18).

Previously Made Arianta did not suspect that his daughter would leave home. Before going missing, Dewi Santiari had been working on Labuan Amok Beach as a freelance greeter for the last four years. Dewi would walk the 1 kilometre to get to the beach and would always come around 5PM.

This time, the young girl did not go home. Her parents thought that she might have stayed over at a friends place, but the next day, their

daughter, who only has elementary level education, did not come home and she could not be contacted by phone. Fearing that something bad had happened, her parents reported the incident to the police. “Until now, there is been no informa-tion about the whereabouts of my daughter” he added.

that she was missing, he thought nothing of it. This information was also given to police, however until now there has been no indication of where she might be now.

NEgArA — Due to Nyepi celebrations, the crossing ser-vices in Bali Strait will be closed for 24 hours starting on Saturday morning (Mar. 21). The impend-ing closing of the Gilimanuk Harbor has already made traf-fic out of Bali become busier. Since Wednesday morning (Mar. 18), motorcycle traffic passing through the harbor has increased. The harbor authority predicts that the peak of vehicle traffic density will occur on Thursday (Mar. 19) and Friday (Mar. 20).

Operations Manager of the ASDP Gil imanuk, Wahyudi Susianto, said that in contrast to previous years, the outflow of traffic from Bali has started to become denser three days prior to Nyepi celebrations. But

on Wednesday, he said that the harbor is not too crowded with or trucks yet. According to Su-sianto, Gilimanuk Harbor will be closed on Saturday morning at 05:50, while the Ketapang Harbor will close on Friday af-ternoon (Mar. 20) at six o’clock in anticipation of vehicles arriv-ing from Java on their way to Lombok.

“We hope the vehicles can leave out of Bali before the holi-day to prevent too much vehicle accumulation in the harbor” said Wahyudi. Just before closingthe harbour at Gilimanuk there will only be three vessels cross-ing to Ketapang. On Nyepi, all vessels remain in the waters of Ketapang.

Currently a total of 32 vessels

both freighter and passenger ves-sels are in operation. Predictions based on previous years would indicate that before the closing of the harbour, both freight and private vehicles leaving Bali will accumulate in the harbor.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Jem-brana Police Traffic Affairs, Gede Sumadra Kerthiawan, said that to anticipate security issues, his party will be adding person-nel to stand guard at Gilimanuk during the traffic overflow before Nyepi. As of last Wednesday afternoon, there was no accumu-lation of motorcycles, vehicles nor trucks at Gilimanuk. Traffic density was only visible at the motorcycle ticket counter in the morning and in the evening. (kmb26)

Models present a creation by designer Yasutoshi Ezumi from his Autumn/Winter 2015/2016 collection for his brand YASUTOSHI EZUMI during Tokyo Fashion Week March 18, 2015. The fashion week goes on till March 21.

“Definitely we would like to see more Japanese models.”

A lack of racially diverse cat-walks is by no means unique to Tokyo, which is vying to compete on the global fashion stage. But its lack of Japanese faces is strik-ing. In Japan, fashion is divided into “wa-fuku”, or traditional Japanese clothing, and “yofuku”, which liter-ally means “Western-s t y l e c l o t h -ing” and i s n o w everyday wear.

While Japanese m o d e l s are usu-ally cho-s e n t o s h o w -case the

former, such as kimonos by cel-ebrated designer Jotaro Saito, they

have limited opportunities in the latter category -- even when

the “Western-style” clothes are Japanese creations that will mostly find domestic buyers.

“It’s natural. If I was designing traditional Japa-nese clothes I would pick Japanese models,” said

young designer Hiroki Uemura of the

“byU” brand, w h o m a d e his debut at Tokyo this week.

H e d e -scribed his collection as an adult ver-sion of the hugely popu-lar “kawaii” style -- the J a p a n e s e w o r d f o r cute or ador-

able -- but one also influenced by the “mismatched” look of British actress and singer Jane Birkin in her youth.

“I want to show the ‘made in Japan’ aspect, but the Japanese are attracted to Europe and foreign countries, so in order to promote this brand’s image I use foreign models,” he said.

Backstage ahead of Uemura’s show, a group of willowy blondes sat texting and eating sandwiches while stylists touched up their make-up and curled their hair. Kali Myronenko, a 20-year-old from Ukraine, first appeared on the Tokyo runway when she was 17 and is now based in the city, where the insatiable appetite for her looks gives her a regular stream of work.

“Japanese people... like this idea of being cute-looking, young, so many Japanese people wear contact lenses with the blue eyes,” she told AFP. She thinks the inter-est in her appearance is down to a typical yearning for what you don’t have, such as curly-haired

people desperate for straight hair. “You don’t want to be how you are because you see yourself everyday in the mirror,” she said.

In Japan that yearning to be different has, as in other Asian countries, led to a robust mar-ket for skin-whitening creams, while dyed-blonde hair is not an uncommon sight in the corridors of fashion week, held in Tokyo’s trendy Shibuya district.

As spectators filed out of Ue-mura’s show, fashion PR worker Kaori Yasuike said it was not at all strange for her to see blonde Caucasians strutting down the runway, because she sees them all the time in magazines.

“We want to look at someone who we admire as an ideal body type,” she said.

In 2014, Vogue Japan featured only three women of colour on 14 covers, only one of whom was of Japanese descent, according to a survey by online forum The Fashion Spot.

In pursuit of their ideal look, Tokyo agents nowadays choose many of their models from East-ern Europe or Russia, according to fashion week casting director Bobbie Tanabe.

He said they were given attrac-tive contracts with flights, apart-ments and drivers, meaning they

cost about twice as much to hire as local models.

Meanwhile, some Japanese youngsters seeking to make it on the catwalk now try their luck in fashion centres such as New York, Tenable said.

“Maybe using Japanese models can be too realistic for (Japanese designers),” he added. There is also the issue of Tokyo Fashion Week’s global appeal -- it still does not attract the prestigious designer names that show in Paris, New York, Milan or London.

Model Rika Tatsuno, who grew up in the United States, thinks this is another reason designers opt for foreign models.

“They want to branch out internationally and so they can’t just target the Asian market,” she said, although she suggested Japanese models would help to give “a better understanding of how the clothes would look” on their main domestic consumers.

Ukrainian Myronenko said she would “love” to work alongside more Japanese models in Tokyo, where she finds the job more en-joyable than at shows such as Paris Fashion Week.

“I think it’s just the Japanese way that I love, how they treat oth-er people no matter who you are, famous or not famous.” (afp)

Japanese clothes but few Japanese models at Tokyo Fashion Week

TOKYO - Tokyo Fashion Week has long been a platform for edgy Japanese designers -- but perhaps more remarkable is just how few Japanese models grace its catwalks. Tall, white and often blonde young women dominate the runway, with a foreign look that is now common-place in Japanese magazines, shows and advertisements. “It’s kind of odd,” said 24-year-old Rika Tatsuno, one of the few Japanese models appearing on the Tokyo catwalks, where she reckons she is in an Asian minority of about 10 to 15 percent.

On the other hand, the moment of Nyepi celebrated annually is utilized by tourism stakeholders, chiefly hospitality industry in the area of Kuta and Nusa Dua to increase their occupancy rate. A number of accommodations vi-brantly offer cheap package in a series of the celebration. Moreover, the government of Badung does not prohibit the selling of Nyepi pack-age by hospitality management.

A number of hotels in Badung look to install and offer Nyepi package in Bali at special price. More interestingly, the sale of the package is not only on display in front of each hotel but intensively promoted in a number of social media. Government of Badung itself does not prohibit the hospi-tality management from selling the Nyepi package to travelers wishing to vacation on the island provided that they do not interfere with the

implementation of the abstinences in Bali.

“The sale of Nyepi package is reasonable to increase the number

of foreign travelers visiting Bali,” said the Head of Badung Culture Agency, Ida Bagus Anom Basma. His party asserted that hotel would not turn on lights excessively, carry out activities disrupting the absti-nences of Nyepi and not go out of hotel area.

“We remind the hotels if there

are hotel guests falling sick they should be informed to pecalang and local customary villages to be taken to the nearest hospital,” he concluded.

“During the Nyepi, all domestic and international flights with the ultimate destination and the first de-parture from the Ngurah Rai Airport will be abolished,” said Co-General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I (Per-sero) I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita recently.

Nevertheless, for certain circum-stances the airport remains idle. For example, there is a request for technical landing or emergency landing, including medical evacu-ation. During the closure on Nyepi, based on data of the PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), there are 422 regu-lar flights from Ngurah Rai Airport or vice versa that are not operating. They consist of 258 domestic flights and 164 international flights.

“Since it is an annual event, let alone be listed in the national holiday calendar, so there are no significant problems when one of the busiest airports in Indonesia should stop operating for a whole day,” he said. (kmb27)

DENPASAR - Head of Bali’s Na-tional Narcotics Agency (BNN) Police Brigadier General I Gusti Ketut Bu-diartha affirmed that a rehabilitation center to treat drug addicts will be built in 2015.

“It is expected that the construction will be started in mid or end of 2015 as the special correctional institution for narcotics will be operated in Bangli district,” he stated.

According to Budiartha, the drug prisoners can be treated at the rehabili-tation center. The drug addicts need to be treated for at least six months on an average to recover their physical and mental health at the center, but the time depends on the level of addiction.

“Usually a drug addict needs three months for medical rehab, including detoxification and memory recovery as generally the central nervous system is affected,” Budiartha stated.

Until the end of 2014, the number of drug cases involving users and dealers reached 763.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika is proposing a pro-vincial regulation to synergize efforts for preventing and eradicating the drug menace.

Bali used to be a transit area for the sale of drugs, and now, it is a market for

drugs and not a possible producer,” he noted recently.

According to Pastika, as an interna-tional tourism destination, the potential for the use of illegal drugs is high and poses a threat to the society.

“We have to anticipate all negative possibilities. Strategic actions have to be taken, and one of them is through a regulation to synergize all actions and stakeholders,” Pastika stated.

He noted that people should change their mindset that an addict is not a criminal, but, in fact, a sick person and a victim who needs medical treatment, such as therapy and rehab.

The provincial administration is preparing its rehabilitation facilities and infrastructure by utilizing the general hospitals and medical centers to treat addicts, both through inpatient and outpatient recovery programs.

“Criminals, traffickers, smugglers, dealers, and those who help them must be punished by law,” Pastika empha-sized.

He hoped that the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Bali province can co-ordinate with all stakeholders, including religious figures, to eradicate the use of illegal drugs.

Head of Bali’s BNN Police Brigadier General I. Gusti Ketut Budiartha noted

that Bali currently has least 50 thousand drug addicts.

In 2015, Bali administration tar-gets to rehabilitate 2,083 drug addicts through inpatient and outpatient treat-ments. (ant)

Razor wire ringed the Bardo Museum on Thursday and security forces guarded major thoroughfares in Tunis, the capital, as authorities hunted for two or three more people believed to have been involved in the attack. Two of the gunmen were killed Wednesday by police.

The attack spells oceans of trouble for the tourism industry, which brings throngs of foreigners every year to Tunisia’s Mediterranean beaches, desert oases and ancient Roman ruins — and which had just started to recover after years of slump. Two major cruise ships whose passengers had been among the victims left the port of Tunis early Thursday.

A Spanish man and a pregnant Spanish woman who had been in-side the museum during the attack hid in the building all night in fear and were retrieved safely Thurs-day morning by security forces, Tunisia’s health minister told The Associated Press.

Health Minister Said Aidi said the death toll rose Thursday to 23 people, including 18 foreign tourists, with almost 50 people wounded. Five Tunisians were killed, includ-ing two attackers. Aidi said all the in-juries came from bullet wounds, and that several victims were brought in without identity documents.

Moncef Hamdoun, an official with the Charles Nicolle hospital where many victims were taken, said seven of the dead remain un-identified. He listed the others who were slain as: three Japanese wom-en, a Spanish man and a Spanish woman, a Colombian woman, an Australian man, a British woman, a Belgian woman, a Frenchman and a Polish man.

Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid, in an interview with France’s RTL radio, said Tunisia was working with other countries to learn more about the attackers, identified as Yass-ine Laabidi and Hatem Khachnaoui.

They were killed by security services in a raid. He said Laabidi had been flagged to intelligence, although not for “anything special.”

No one has claimed responsibil-ity for the attack. Tunisia has faced scattered extremist violence, and a disproportionately large number of Tunisians have joined Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq. Twitter accounts associated with the group praised the attack. Ifriqiyah Media, which has aired claims from Tunisian extremists in the past, posted what it said were details about the attack, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors extremist activity online. The post calls on Muslims to attack tourists, but does not say who orchestrated the attack.

Legislator Bochra Belhaj Hmida, of the secular majority party Nida Tunis, told the AP that about 2,000 suspected terrorists are believed to be in Tunisia, many of whom joined extremists in Iraq or Syria then returned home.

“They are in a situation of being lone wolves, where each of them is free to do the actions they want,” she said. “These are people who are let loose with weapons and wherever they can strike, they will not forgo the opportunity.”(ap)

WARSAW, Poland — Poland has sent a plane with doctors and diplomats to Tunisia to help and bring back Poles injured in a gun attack in a museum in Tunis.

Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said Thursday morning that according to information he has at the moment, two Poles were killed in the attack, two are missing and nine were hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.

President Bronislaw Komorowski stressed that Tunisian authorities are still identifying the victims and the numbers could change.

National flags on government buildings were flown half-staff in a sign of mourning.

Doctors, psychologists and consular officials have flown to Tunis. Some 300 Polish tourists are in Tunisia, according to tourist offices.(ap)

TUNIS, Tunisia — One of the gunmen who killed tourists and oth-ers at a prominent Tunisian museum was known to the intelligence services but no formal links to a particular extremist group have been established, the prime minister said Thursday. The attack Wednesday on Tunisia’s National Bardo Museum left 23 dead, scores wounded and threatens both Tunisia’s fledgling democracy and its struggling tourism industry. It was the worst attack at a tourist site in Tunisia in years.

Semarapura - The Regent of Klungkung, Nyoman Suwirta, ad-dressed the rampant threats of drug trafficking in Nusa Penida subdis-trict. He admitted that the island has too many entrances. According to him, the entrance to Nusa Penida must be reduced and centralized by applying security standards, especially in the tourist area of Lembongan and Jungut Batu.

“In the future, we have to think of it with the implementation of security standards in the entrance area. By that way, drugs and the like can be monitored and managed appropriately,” said Regent Suwirta when met at his office, Wednesday (Mar. 18).

He admitted to have thought about it starting from centraliz-ing the boat harbor at one place. Moreover, the transport by boat

lately began to develop and be-came popular among the society. In addition, the status of the waters of Nusa Penida as Water Conserva-tion Area (KKP) also becomes its own waters, so that the sustainabil-ity of the underwater biota must be preserved. Too many ports as boat docks will disrupt the underwater biota of Nusa Penida.

When it is centralized, it will be followed with the application of adequate security standards to Nusa Penida. According to him, this effort can be made in the region of Lembongan and Jungut Batu. This region is considered more urgent because tourism has evolved fur-ther than the island of Nusa Gede. Besides, it also means to provide security and comfort for the sus-tainability of local tourism as well as an attempt to filter out negative

impacts such as the threat of drug abuse and trafficking.

Other than at Lembongan and Jungut Batu, corresponding boat dock also needs to be built around the waters of Klungkung mainland. For Klungkung mainland, Regent Suwirta even claimed to have made a study this year in the Transport Agency. As planned, the port will be built at Belatung area, Pesinggahan village. Incidentally the land at the location is owned by the state, so that it just needs to make a study and then performs the arrangement. “Later, the boats will berth slightly in the middle of the sea. Passengers can pass through the pontoon as applied at Tribuana boat port,” said Suwirta.

If the study indicates the fea-sibility to build at the location, security system must also be

made with a certain standard, as the corresponding boat port of Nusa Penida. However, to realize all of them, he admitted to take time. Responding to the warn-ing submitted by various parties, temporarily Regent Suwirta asked residents to protect themselves and could help police by provid-ing accurate information in order to further address in appropriate with legal mechanisms. He did not want if the developing Nusa Penida subdistrict becomes a base of drug trafficking.

In a recent coordination meet-ing, the legislator A.A. Sayang Suparta expressed that in the con-text of regional security, the posi-tion of the island with too many port points has made the situation worse. It even becomes a crack of susceptibility of drug and other

security threats freely if there is no anticipation from relevant par-ties. With such situation, he also admitted that police authority will be difficult to monitor and control. Currently he said there are dozens of anchorage points in the Nusa Penida subdistrict. Allegedly the drug trafficking take places most intensely in the area of Lembongan and Jungut Batu.

As spreading information, the region is now becoming the safest place to sell and enjoy drugs rather than in other areas. Other than it is slightly isolated, the location also lacks of oversight and enforcement by relevant parties. Drug syndicates from other areas such as Lombok are also alleged to have made the island as their market and transit point of transactions to other areas in Bali. (kmb31)

One traditional recipe that people in Buleleng are loving these days is snail satay. This dish can be found at the former harbor of Buleleng in Kampung Tinggi Singaraja. Here stands a food stall run by I Gede Sumerta where everyday from afternoon until nightime, Sumerta along with his wife and son run

this beachside stall. Ever since he started his business, Sumerta has been offering his unique snail satay. Snail has a high nutrinal content and his creation is easy to prepare.

Sumerta said that to make the snail satay he prepares full Balinese seasoning and rice cakes (lontong) to go with the snail satay. Since pio-

neering this satay business, he has cultivated snails himself. Bali snails have black of dark brown shells, but not all types of snails can be made into satay. The largest snails that he knows of can grow to be as large as a ping-pong ball. How are snails processed into satay? First, the snail meat is removed from the shell and sliced, and then skewered onto a bamboo stick.

The next step is to prepare the seasoning of full Balinese spices.

To thicken the seasoning mix-ture, add some peanuts, so that it resembles standard satay sauce. When everything is ready, grill the satay over hot coals, once cooked, sprinkle with seasoning and serve with rice cake. “The process is simple enough. When cooking the raw snail, make sure they are fully cooked and the flesh has become soft” he said.

When asked about the advan-tages of eating snail satay, Sum-

erta who works as a contracted employee for the government of Buleleng said that snail flesh has a high nutritional content and is good for our health. Moreover, if the snails are cultivated and fed with grass, their flesh will not get contaminated by artificial feed. “Because they are cultivated and fed on grass instead of artificial feed, the snail meat is clean, mak-ing for a nutrinioal healthy dish. ” he concluded. WASHINGTON — The United States is escalating a food fight with Indonesia, charging that the Southeast Asian country violates world trade rules by blocking imports of fruit, produce and meat.U.S. trade and ag-riculture officials announced Wednesday that the U.S. is bringing a case against Indonesia at the World Trade Organization in Geneva. The United States has long complained about Indonesian trade policies, including a ban on chicken and other meats and licensing require-ments that limit U.S. farm exports.

Without those barriers, the U.S. argues, Indonesia would be a more lucrative market for U.S. farmers — its population of 254 million is the world’s fourth largest. But America exports more fruit and vegetables to Ma-laysia, with a population of 30 million people, and more meat to the Philippines, with 108 million people.

New Zealand is joining the United States in the case.Among the U.S. products affected by what the U.S. calls Indonesia’s “unjustified” licensing requirements and other trade barriers are apples, grapes, oranges, potatoes, onions, flowers, beef and chicken. The U.S. argues that the barriers violate a 1994 world trade agreement.

“When our trading partners don’t play by the rules it costs American jobs, so it is critical we hold them accountable,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.Indonesia’s embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The complaint comes as the Obama administration seeks congressional support for an ambitious trade agree-ment with 11 Pacific Rim countries including Japan, Australia, Canada and Mexico but not Indonesia. The administration also wants so-called fast track authority to negotiate trade deals that go to Congress for an up-or-down vote, no nitpicking allowed. (ap)

“Just because we removed the word ‘patient’ from the statement doesn’t mean we’re going to be impatient,” Fed Chair Janet Yellen said in a press conference after Wednesday’s statement.

Stocks on Wall Street surged and oil prices jumped as much as 5 percent after the Fed statement. The dollar tumbled against other major currencies and the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield dipped below 2 percent for the first time since March 2.In its quarterly summary of economic projections, the Fed cut its inflation outlook for 2015 and reduced expected U.S. economic growth. The policy statement repeated its concern that inflation measures were running below expectations, weighed down in part by

falling energy prices.“I just don’t see any price or wage

pressure out there,” said Craig Dismuke, chief economist for Vining Sparks. “June is not off the table but it’s unlikely. Sep-tember is the most likely time for the first rate hike. They might get one hike in this year, maybe two.

“The Fed noted that a rate increase remained “unlikely” at its April meeting and said its change in rate guidance did not mean it has decided on the timing for a rate hike. Yellen told reporters that a June move could not be ruled out.

The Fed statement, however, allowed enough flexibility for the central bank to move later in the year, stressing that any decision would depend on incom-

ing data.“The committee anticipates that it will

be appropriate to raise the target range for the federal funds rate when it has seen further improvement in the labor market and is reasonably confident that inflation will move back to its 2 percent objective over the medium-term,” the Fed said.

It had previously said it would be patient in considering when to bring monetary policy back to normal.

Goldman Sachs economist Jan Hatz-ius said in a research note that the Fed’s statement and projections suggested a hike in September rather than June, citing the “dot plot” shift and changes to the central bank’s assessment of the economy. (ap)

BEIJING — Yahoo Inc. is closing its Beijing re-search and development center and leaving China in a new cost-cutting move.

The company said Thursday the Beijing office’s functions would be consolidated in other locations. It gave no details of how many people would lose their jobs but said they would be “treated with respect and fairness.”The Sunnyvale, California-based company has cut jobs elsewhere in a sweeping corporate overhaul as it tries to catch up with Internet users who have shifted to using smartphones and tablets instead of laptop and desktop computers.

Fed opens door wider for rate hike but downgrades economic outlook

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve on Wednesday moved a step closer to hiking rates for the first time since 2006, but downgraded its economic growth and inflation projections, signaling it is in no rush to push borrowing costs to more normal levels. The U.S. central bank removed a reference to being “patient” on rates from its policy statement, opening the door wider for a hike in the next couple of months while sounding a cautious note on the health of the eco-nomic recovery.Fed officials also slashed their median estimate for the federal funds rate - the key overnight lending rate - to 0.625 percent for the end of 2015 from the 1.125 percent estimate in December. The cut to the so-called “dot plot,” together with other economic concerns cited by the Fed, sent a more dovish message than investors were expect-ing, and pushed market bets on the central bank’s rate “lift-off” from mid-year to the fall.

BANGLI - Traders at Kidul Market Ban-gli complained about the piles of rubbish at almost all corners of the market. They questioned the sanitation levy paid every day. They also accused that the rubbish transportation was carried out half-heartedly and unseriously. Since the market started to be functioned, the rubbish transportation at Kidul Market is very rarely done.

According to field observation, the piles of rubbish were seen at some corners of the market. The mounting rubbish began to decompose and emit scents and unpleasant fluid. More seriously, the rubbish was seen to decompose mixed with mud.

One of the grocery traders, Kadek Ardani, admitted to be frustrated with the piles of rubbish. Spreading scent makes consumers

reluctant to visit her kiosk. As a result, she is frustrated because her daily turnover reduces by about 10 to 20 percent.

“Consumers decrease because such condi-tion rarely happens. The officers also rarely do the cleaning. Since I occupied this loca-tion the rubbish is only transported once,” she said.

Furthermore, she explained the transporta-tion of rubbish by the janitor was very rare. The rubbish at Kidul Market is piled up for days. Suddenly, at a glance, the market looks like a landfill. Another thing deplored by the traders is the market sanitation levy paid every day. Payment of the levy is not poised with maximum services. She accused the sanitation officers handled it half-heartedly. “I have paid a rubbish levy, but the rubbish

is not transported so far,” he said. She also added that the piles of rubbish

produced scents. Some few traders cancelled to eat because the stench continued to haunt. The atmosphere increasingly looks shabby when it rains. “The smell of the rubbish makes me unable to eat,” she explained.

In addition to the piles of rubbish, she also complained about the disposal of fish waste made carelessly by traders because of the lack of waste disposal. They often dump waste at empty space next to the market. “Fish waste also makes us disturbed. There is no sewer here,” she said.

Another trader, Wayan Mudi, claimed to be disappointed with the handling of sanitation in the Kidul Market considered being very slow. He said to have paid sanitation levy

regularly, but the rubbish is still piling up. Less comfort of the market condition makes him lose buyers. As a result, his sale drops dramatically.

Similar disappointment was also revealed by a greengrocer, Pande. He pointed to the sanitation levy paid was useless because it was not matched by the services. He also questioned where the sanitation levy went. Such condition made traders lose customers so that they decided to peddle outside. “The levy paid seems useless, while the rubbish still piles up and is rarely transported,” she said with exasperation.

Pande hoped that relevant agencies could immediately tackle the piles of rubbish. Moreover, the traders had paid the sanita-tion levy.

Even though there is no special announcement from the govern-ment of Gianyar to companies, the activities of hotels in Ubud area, for instance, have become a norm to make a special package for Nyepi at each hotel. Although they sell Nyepi package for travelers staying in Ubud, all the activities including meditation program and typical food for Nyepi, for instance, are limited on Nyepi. “The hotel and travelers in this case very much respect Nyepi,” said the Head of Gianyar Government Tourism Office, Anak Agung Ari Brahmanta.

The officials also originating in Ubud said that in-house guests always stayed and did the activities in the room or at least indoors. On that day, the hotel employees on duty have been provided with special facilities by management for the whole day. “The hotel pro-vides all the facilities for employees so that they do not need to roam around the streets,” he said.

Ari Brahmanta added that Nyepi celebration which has been known throughout the world poses the main attraction for travelers to enjoy serenity during the day. The feast having been popular is even sought after by travelers to get through it. Thus, many hotels offer Nyepi package for travelers. “This happens because they do not find similar celebration in other regions with such atmosphere,” he explained.

As in the circular of the Hindu Dharma Council of Indonesia (PHDI) Gianyar dated February 2, 2015 signed by Chairman of the PHDI Gianyar, IGA MK Adiarta, and Dharma Upapathi of the PHDI Gianyar, Ida Pedanda Made Gede Putra Kekeran, is mentioned the implementation of catur bratha penyepian or four abstinences must be closely monitored and coordinated with local customary village apparatus. TABANAN - Ahead of Nyepi, the supply of basic commodities in Taban-an County is guaranteed to be secure. To that end, the Head of Industry and Trade Agency, I.B. Made Wiryawan, urged the community of rice granary area not to feel panic by stocking ex-cessive goods related to the feast mo-ment. “We’ve made coordination with suppliers in order to anticipate the food supplies,” said Wiryawan.

Based on observation of the Agen-cy in the market, the price of food commodities in Tabanan was still relatively stable. The price of rice pre-viously soaring has started to go down. The price of rice for medium quality has been back to normal around IDR 9,000 per kg. The price decreases from the previous one of IDR 10,000. “This week it remains IDR 10,000 per kg

and currently decreases to IDR 9,000,” said Wiryawan. According to him, the decline in the price of rice happened because Tabanan already started enter-ing harvest season so that the supply was also back normal.

Other than rice, according to Wiryawan, the price of other com-modity was fairly stable. Neverthe-less, he could not ascertain whether the price would remain the same despite the range of food supplies were sufficient. “Possibly it can go up and down, but the condition is not significant,” he said.

In the meantime, the owner of Sri Rejeki shop posing a distributor of rice in Tabanan, Gusti Ayu Wilasmi, expressed the needs for rice related to Nyepi could certainly be fulfilled. The supply of rice from Java previously

declining has been back to normal. No matter how high the market demand is, the supply from Java is able to fulfill it. As a result, the price of rice can decline. “This week, the price of my medium quality rice is sold for IDR 225,000 per sack. It reduced from the previous price at IDR 275,000 per sack, while the retail price became IDR 9,000 per kg,” she said.

Ayu continued that even though the supply has been back to normal, she does not dare to keep more rice stocks for Nyepi. It is taken to anticipate the non-operating of distribution of goods on the next holiday. “Now, the trend of rice price is going down. When keeping more stocks, I worry the selling price will be incomparable to the benefits and purchasing cost to bring in the rice from Java,” she said. (kmb24)

Hotels asked to limit operations on Nyepi

GIANYAR - Nyepi that must be celebrated with ‘silence’ is responded quite differently by a number of tourism industries such as the provider of accommodation like hotels. Hotels in Gianyar especially those having in-house guests still operate on Nyepi. However, a number of their operations are restricted so that it will not disturb the people conducting the brata penyepian or abstinences.

JAKARTA - Indonesia is not likely to execute a group of death row convicts, mostly foreigners, for weeks or even months, until its courts decide on their last-minute legal appeals, Vice President Jusuf Kalla told Reuters on Wednesday.

Indonesia has harsh penalties for drug trafficking and resumed executions in 2013 after a five-year gap. Five foreigners were among six people executed last month, the first executions since President Joko Widodo took office in October.

Tensions have flared between Indonesia and countries like Australia and Brazil, whose citizens are among a group of 10 drug offenders due to face the firing squad.

Widodo has pledged no mercy for drug offenders, saying Indo-nesia faces a “drug emergency”. The country is a major destination for drugs trafficked in the region.

Kalla said Indonesia was more cautious in handling the legal appeals following diplomatic efforts to save the prisoners.

“We will always hear and consider opinions not only from Aus-tralia but also France and Brazil,” Kalla said in an interview. “That is why we are very careful in ... following the process of the law.”

He said, “We’re waiting for the decision of the courts,” adding that it could take “weeks or maybe months”.

Four death row inmates have appealed against their sentences after Widodo rejected their clemency pleas late last year.

Australia has made repeated calls for mercy on behalf of Myuran Sukumaran, 33, and Andrew Chan, 31, but Widodo has refused to budge, turning down an offer of a one-off prisoner exchange and to have the Australian government bear the cost of the convicts serving life sentences.

Kalla said relations with Brazil had been harmed and Indonesia was now reviewing all its military contracts with Latin America’s largest economy.

“We’re not reviewing contracts with other countries because Australia and the Netherlands, they did not harm our diplomatic situation, like Brazil,” he said, referring to Brazil’s refusal to let Indonesia’s envoy take part in a credentials ceremony.

Brazil and the Netherlands recalled their ambassadors in Janu-ary after Indonesia executed their citizens among a group of six for drug offences.

A second Brazilian national is among a second group of 11 prison-ers due to be executed soon in Indonesia. Rodrigo Gularte’s family has pleaded for clemency on the grounds of mental illness.

Others facing imminent execution on the prison island of Nu-sakambangan include citizens of France, the Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria and Indonesia. (rtr)

Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan have already been transferred to the prison is-land of Nusakambangan where the executions would take place.

The two Australians are among a group of 10 drug convicts due to be executed together by firing squad on Nusakambangan. Others in the group include citizens of France, Brazil, the Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria and Indonesia.

At least half of the convicts have ongoing legal challenges.

Sukumaran and Chan were ar-rested in 2005 as the ringleaders of a plot to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia.

Australia has been pursuing an eleventh-hour campaign to save the lives of the two members of the so-called Bali Nine, but Presi-dent Joko Widodo has refused to budge.

“The hearing for both cases has been delayed until March 25 for our side to submit evidence. March 30 will be their (the defense) turn,” said Leonard Arfan, lawyer for the two Australians.

Judge Ujang Abdullah said final arguments would be heard on April 1 and a verdict would be announced soon afterwards.

The attorney general has said it would not set a date for the ex-

ecutions until after all of the legal processes are completed for all 10 on death tow.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla told Reuters on Wednesday it could take weeks or even months for the executions to take place.

Indonesia’s vice president said Wednesday that the execution of 10 drug smugglers, nine of them foreigners, might not happen in the near future because some of them have legal appeals pending.

JAKARTA - An Indonesian whose daughter-in-law is among 56 people unaccounted for following the December crash of an AirAsia plane said Wednesday his family had accepted the “sad reality” that her body would never be found. Rescu-ers called off the hunt for the remain-ing passengers on Tuesday, almost three months after Flight QZ8501 went down in stormy weather as it flew from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore, killing all 162 people on board.

The crash of the Airbus A320-200 sparked a huge international search, with ships and aircraft from several

nations scouring the waters for the plane wreckage and the victims. In recent weeks the hunt had already been scaled back, with just Indo-nesia’s civilian search and rescue agency involved and only a small number of new bodies found.

Early Wednesday, the last ships involved in the search left Pangka-lan Bun, the town on Borneo island which had served as a base for the hunt, said agency official S.B. Supriyadi.

A total of 106 bodies have been recovered, with the last three found at the weekend.

Hadi Widjaja, whose son and

daughter-in-law were on the flight, praised rescuers for doing a “good job”.

His son has been found but his daughter-in-law remains missing. He said her family realised it was time to move on.

“Her parents and my family have let her go in peace. We have to accept this sad reality,” he told AFP.

“The rescuers spent three months on this search operation,” he said, adding that his family “really ap-preciated their work”.

Eka Santoso, whose brother, sister-in-law and their two children were on the plane, said he believed

if the search operation was extended, more bodies could be found, but he had accepted the decision to end it.

The body of his brother has been retrieved, but his three other relatives remain missing. “I have already asked AirAsia and the search and rescue agency to extend the search, but I cannot do more,” said the 53-year-old, adding that he would just have to “accept that they are no lon-ger searching for our loved ones”.

Bambang Soelistyo, head of Indo-nesia’s search and rescue agency, said the decision to end the search had been taken after consulting the victims’ rela-tives at a meeting in Surabaya.

The Indonesian National Trans-portation Safety Committee has so far shed little light on what caused the flight to crash, or what occurred in the moments before the tragedy.

It has reported that the plane climbed rapidly in an area of tower-ing storm clouds before crashing, and that the co-pilot was at the controls, rather than the more expe-rienced pilot, in the moments before the accident.

The plane’s black box flight data recorders have been recovered, and will provide vital clues as investiga-tors seek to figure out what caused the crash. (afp)

Indonesian court delays decision on Australian death row convicts

AirAsia families accept ‘sad reality’ as search ends

JAKARTA - Two Australian drug convicts on death row in Indonesia will not be executed this month after a court on Thursday postponed their appeal hearing against the rejection of a request for presidential clemency.

for weeks or monthsScores of eclipse chasers and sci-

entists have invaded the archipelago armed with telescopes, cameras and glasses for safe direct solar viewing ahead of the big event.

The weather forecast is better more than 2,000 kilometers (1,270 miles) to the northeast, in the Arctic islands of Svalbard, where spectators can hope for a clear day. The full eclipse will only be seen in a narrow path across

the northern hemisphere, reaching the Faeroes at 0945 GMT on Friday.

“This is our 10th total eclipse. We love to watch them and being able to look at the corona with your eyes in the middle of the eclipse is really an exciting moment, to experience the diamond rings coming and going,” said Les Anderson, a 60-year-old from San Diego, California, in Tor-shavn, capital of the Faeroes.

The population of the 18 rocky islands between Scotland and Iceland has swelled by approximately 10,000 for a few days from its normal 48,000 souls. “There has never, never been so many people on the islands be-fore,” said Theresa Kreutzmann, head of the tourism office in Torshavn.

The two best places to fully ex-perience the total solar eclipse are the Faeroes, where the moon covers

the sun completely for 2 minutes 45 seconds, and Svalbard, more than 800 kilometers (500 miles) north of the Norwegian mainland, where it will be 15 seconds shorter.

A partial solar eclipse can be seen across Europe and parts of Asia and Africa. Britain’s Meteorological Of-fice says 95 percent of the sun will be covered in the Hebrides, Orkneys and Shetland Islands.

Although Faeroese camping sites have opened ahead of time for those willing to brave nighttime tempera-tures of around 1.5 degrees Celsius (35 degrees Fahrenheit), authorities

on Svalbard have reminded last-minute visitors that bringing a sleep-ing bag and finding a cozy corner for the night is not an option. The thermometer there hovers around minus 15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit), and safety must come first: Polar bears roam freely and when moving outside settlements, one needs firearms.

On average, three bears are shot in self-defense every year on Sval-bard with an estimated polar bears population of 3,000. Visitors have been attacked — on Thursday, a bear attacked a tent in which a tourist was sleeping, and in 2011, a British teenager was fatally mauled by a bear that attacked the tent he was sleeping in.

“We don’t have polar bears here,” laughed Torstein Christiansen, tourist chief in Torshavn, adding the main problems in the Faeroes are the car traffic and the treacherous and sudden fog that can quickly wrap the islands and its steep cliffs.

Finnur Johansen, 82, is eagerly awaiting the total solar eclipse. He recalls the one in 1954 on the Faroe Islands when the animals were fooled by the sudden darkness. “I remember the reaction of the birds. They go to sleep. The hen, they go in to hen house, under the perch, and slept there with the head under the wing,” Johansen said.

If eclipse-chasers have been pre-paring for years, local authorities have been doing the same, Chris-tiansen said. Authorities have posted online information to help visitors find accommodation and the best spots to be for the eclipse.

Solar eclipse merchandising — including books and toy puffins in eclipse T-shirts — are on sale, hotel prices have risen and a ferry boat has been moored in Torshavn to house visitors. (ap)

KIEV, Ukraine — British mili-tary instructors have traveled to Ukraine to provide medical and tactical training to the country’s troops, the Ukrainian defense ministry said Thursday. Britain’s ministry of defense said it aims to boost the Ukrainian army’s defensive capability in their armed campaign against Russian-backed separatists in the east.

The fragile cease-fire in place since mid-February has largely held, although sporadic small arms clashes continue to be reported dai-ly. Separatist leaders have warned they could abandon the truce over what they say is Ukraine’s failure to live up to a guarantee to grant

autonomy to regions in the east.Ukraine’s defense ministry

spokesman Oleksandr Motuzianik said that British trainers will run a series of courses on combat first aid at bases across the country. Assistance is being aimed at pre-venting further Ukrainian fatalities and casualties, Britain’s ministry of defense said in a statement.

It is unclear what tactical insight instructors will be providing, but the British defense ministry statement said it would “help improve situ-ational awareness on the ground.” Motuzianik said British instructors will also give courses on provid-ing psychological rehabilitation to troops returning from combat.

Motuzianik did not specify the number of instructors, but said training would be rolled out over a two-month period at bases in the regions of Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv and Rivne.

Ukraine has lobbied hard for international military support. The United States has provided non-lethal equipment and is bracing to send its own trainers in the coming weeks.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday held a phone call in which they dis-cussed a planned U.S.-supported multinational training program for Ukraine’s National Guard. (ap)

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A Danish court has sentenced a 67-year-old man to life in prison for shooting dead a lawyer and seriously wounding the father of his 3-year-old grandchild inside a courthouse.

Jorgen Saugsted confessed to killing Anders Lindholt and seri-ously wounding his daughter’s former partner on Sept. 16 in con-nection with a custody dispute at the Bailiff’s court in Copenhagen. The partner’s name and condition were not immediately known.

Defense lawyer Meretee Stagetorn said Thursday’s ruling was “harsh,” adding the defense had not yet decided whether to appeal the sentencing.

TORSHAVN, Faeroe Islands — For months, even years, accommodation on the remote Faeroe Islands has been booked out by fans who don’t want to miss an almost three-minute-long astronomical sensation. Now they just have to hope the clouds will blow away so they can fully experience Friday’s brief total solar eclipse.

Elsewhere, San Antonio re-sponded to the admonishment of its coach by winning at Milwaukee, and Dwyane Wade led Miami to a tight victory against Portland. Golden State improved its run of home victories to 10, with Harrison Barnes scoring 25 points and Andre Iguodala adding 21 points and six assists for the Warriors.

Atlanta, looking fatigued, was denied again in a chance to clinch their first division title since 1993-94 as Washington won at Utah. Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll each scored 16 points for the Hawks, who shot just 35.6 percent from the floor. San Antonio, coming off what coach Gregg Popovich called “a pathetic performance” in los-ing to lowly New York, put in an improved showing to win 114-103

at Milwaukee.Danny Green scored 20 points

and Tim Duncan added 19 points and seven assists for the Spurs, who are seventh in the West. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 19 points for the Bucks, who are sixth in the East with an even 34-34 record. Miami’s Dwyane Wade scored 15 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter, includ-ing a jumper with 13.6 seconds left to break a tie, to guide the Heat to a 108-104 win against Portland.

Wade made 13 of 26 shots for the Heat, who trailed by 11 shortly after halftime. Luol Deng had 24 points on 4-for-4 shooting from 3-point range for Miami. LaMa-rcus Aldridge’s 34 points and 12 rebounds was not quite enough for the Trail Blazers, who fell half a game behind Houston in the race

for third in the West.Cleveland shook off a slow start

to beat Brooklyn 117-92 and extend its impressive home streak. J.R. Smith and Timofey Mozgov scored 17 points apiece for the Cavaliers, who trailed by 13 in the first quarter before going on a 30-8 run to turn it around. Cleveland had seven play-ers in double figures for points.

Deron Williams scored 20 to lead the Nets, who are running out of games as they claw to get into the playoffs. Chicago’s rookie forward Nikola Mirotic scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half to steer the Bulls to a 103-86 victory over Indiana.

Mirotic, who played 31 minutes off the bench, entered averaging an impressive 20.3 points in nine games in March. His previous best scoring month was the 9.9 points he averaged in December.

Mike Dunleavy added 21 points for the Bulls, who won comfortably despite playing without injured starters Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler and key reserve Taj Gibson.(ap)

Jenson Button is adamant that McLaren-Honda is the team best able to topple For-mula 1 dominator Mercedes in the long term. McLaren suffered a poor beginning to the 2015 season, with Kevin Magnussen unable to start the Australian Grand Prix after his Honda engine hit trouble before the race and Button the last-placed finisher in 11th.

But Button remains convinced that the longer-term potential of the McLaren-Honda alliance is higher than any of Mercedes’ other rivals. “This could be great in the future,” he said.

“This is what we need in the sport, some-one that is going to challenge those Mercedes that are out in front. “I really do think that this is the team that can do that. “I know that we are a long way off right now but it was always going to be very difficult.”

McLaren has a mountain to climb in clos-ing the gap to Mercedes, with Button’s best lap in Q1 in Melbourne 4.5 seconds off the first flier set by Lewis Hamilton in similar conditions at the start of Q2 when the track was not significantly faster.

FAITH IN CHASSIS PHILOSOPHYHonda has plans to make major strides

over the course of the season, while Button believes that a fundamental change in the design philosophy of the car means that

McLaren is in good shape chassis-wise. This follows the recruitment of Peter Prodromou from Red Bull as chief engineer. He has spearheaded a shift in the aerodynamic phi-losophy of the team.

“The way the car is is very different to anything I’ve driven that has had a McLaren logo on it,” said Button. “In terms of aero-dynamics, the design philosophy behind the airflow of the car, it’s very different. “This will be, in the future, a very important car for McLaren and Honda in terms of direction.

“There are areas we need to work on of course, but the basic car is good and hope-fully we can keep adding downforce and performance to this car.” Button contrasted the car favourably to last year’s McLaren, which did not offer a sound foundation for development.

“When you have a good base, it makes a massive difference,” said Button. “Last year’s car, for example, we could extract a good lap from it but in a race it made it very difficult because the car was very on the nose on initial turn in. “[At the] apex you would get washout at the front; it was very dirty in the way the aerodynamics worked. “This is different. It’s very clean and we can build on what we have. “You will see big progress form us this year, but don’t expect us to gain two seconds at the next race.”(net)

Warriors beat Hawks 114-95 in clash of NBA leaders

OAKLAND, California — Golden State cruised to a 114-95 win over Atlanta in Wednesday’s clash of the NBA’s top two teams, tak-ing a psychological edge into what could be the league’s finals series. The Warriors pushed their lead in the Western Conference out to 7-1/2 games, while Atlanta’s lead in the East was trimmed to a still comfortable 10 games ahead of Cleveland, which stretched its home winning streak to 14 games by downing Brooklyn.

However, the dominant performance would still have been pleasing for coach Luis Enrique, who in just a few months has silenced doubters questioning his credentials to become the leader of a side contending for silverware on three fronts.

The Catalan side are on a run of 17 victories from their last 18 games in which they have qualified for the King’s Cup final and moved a point clear of Real Madrid in La Liga.

Luis Enrique and Messi had a highly publicised bust-up in late December with the Argentine left out of the starting lineup for the first game of 2015, which they lost away to Real Sociedad, as he returned late from a winter break.

Since then, Barca have only lost one

game and Messi’s enthusiasm has returned, with the player even training last Monday which was scheduled as a day off for the team.

While Messi has been the talisman, Luis Suarez and Neymar are also looking menac-ing in a potent three-pronged attack as Barca face a crunch clash with Real this weekend that could go a long way to deciding where the title ends up. “We are play-ing well but we cannot get carried away because there is a long way to go,” Messi told reporters.

“We have some big games... first against Madrid and then there are the quarter-finals (of the Champions League) where we will face another tough team.”

By contrast, arch-rivals Real have stuttered of late, recording just one win from four games in all competitions and a defeat on Sunday would intensify the

them. “I have a lot of respect for Madrid. When Madrid

are in this situation it is when they are most dangerous,” Messi added.

“They have great players. We will go out to play our football and look to win but at the same time we need to be wary of them as much as ever.”(rtr)

DORTMUND, Germany — Carlos Tevez scored two and set up another as Juventus beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 away to reach the Champions League quarterfinals with a 5-1 aggregate victory on Wednesday. Tevez opened the scoring in the third minute when he let fly with a thunderous shot from around 20 meters (yards) into the top left corner. The Argentine then gave Alvaro Morata a simple tap-in to seal the victory on a counterattack in the 70th.

Arturo Vidal set up Tevez’s second in the 79th, giving the scoreline a flattering but fair look, as the Italian side advanced to only its second Champions League quarterfinal since 2006. “It was a game to forget. It began in the third minute and didn’t get much better. Juve were simply much better than us today,” Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said. “We’re out, we didn’t play well, now we’ll concen-trate on the Bundesliga and German Cup.”

Dortmund, the 2013 finalist, had been bid-ding to reach its third successive quarterfinal. “It’s an evening we have to say we fully deserved to be knocked out,” Klopp said. Leading 2-1 from the round-of-16 first leg in Turin, the visiting side nullified Dortmund’s attacking threat to leave Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga’s only remaining side in the competition, with the final to be played in Berlin on June 6.

In the other second leg match of the last 16, Barcelona beat Manchester City 1-0 on the night to go through 3-1 on aggregate. “The second half was sub-standard from us; the high scoreline is fully in order. A pity that our last Champions League match for one and a half years went so badly,” said Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, whose side has struggled in the Bundesliga. It was bottom of the league in February.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri had promised his side wouldn’t sit back despite the first leg advantage. His players stayed true to his word and Tevez got the visitors

off the mark with an effort that stunned the home fans. “Tevez is playing a great season,” Allegri said of the forward, who has scored 21 goals in 33 league and Champions League games this season. “We’re happy to have him because he helps the team a lot. There’s no question about his technical ability.”

Juventus pushed high up the pitch and snuffed out Dortmund’s response before it could even begin. The home side harried and fought, yet was unable to trouble Gianluigi Buffon in goal. The veteran goalkeeper re-acted quickly to extinguish the danger with Marco Reus lurking in the 36th but it was a rare intervention.

Midfield marshal Paul Pogba had gone off injured before that, prompting a period of Dortmund pressure. The visitors were the only ones who created chances however, with Vidal firing over. Fans made their frustration known in the first half, with confidence-hit midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan a particular target. There were more loud whistles at halftime.

Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller kept Dortmund in the tie when he saved a great chance for Morata five minutes into the second half. Mkhitaryan was then crowded out on a counterattack at the other end. Weidenfeller denied Morata again, before Buffon easily saved from Kevin Kampl with Dortmund’s first shot on target - after more than an hour of play.

By then it was too late, and Tevez sealed Dortmund’s fate — and the German side’s fourth loss in four European home games against Juventus — shortly afterward.

“We only allowed two chances over 180 minutes,” Allegri said. “We’re confident and we know our strengths, technically and physically. We’re playing well in Italy since the start of the system. Here in Europe, we’ve delivered two top performances in succes-sion. I think this was even better than the home game.”(ap)

LONDON - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Thursday the away goals rule should be changed following his club’s defeat to AS Monaco in the Champions League under the rule after the teams finished level at 3-3 over the two legs. Wenger is not the first to call for the rule to be changed -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter expressed the same view last October saying it had “fallen behind the times.”

Arsenal and Premier League rivals Chelsea, were both eliminated on away goals in the last 16 of the competition after drawing 3-3 with French League teams. Chelsea drew 1-1 at Paris St Germain but were eliminated after a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, while Arsenal lost 3-1 at home and went out despite winning 2-0 at Monaco on Tuesday.

In his pre-match briefing before Arse-nal face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, Wenger said the time had come for the rule to be changed. “I think it should be questioned. It’s a rule that is outdated now and should be changed. “None of the teams in the competition apart from Barcelona looks to be superior in Europe today.

“Maybe the rule should count after extra

time. This rule was created in the 1960s to fa-vour teams to attack away from home but since then football has changed and the weight of the away goal is too big today.” The away goals rule replaced the coin toss or the drawing of lots to settle ties which were level on aggregate after the second leg. Last October Blatter wrote in his column in the FIFA Weekly magazine, “It is time to rethink the system.

“Football has progressed since the 1960s, so the away goals rule may now be questioned. Does the away goals rule still make sense? “The idea dates back to a time when away games were often an adventure, involving journeys that could be long and arduous -- and the play-ing conditions would vary considerably.

“In reality it favours the club that play away from home in the second leg. Where the scores are tied, that team has 30 minutes more than their opponent to score a valuable away goal. After all, in the first leg there is no extra time.”

Blatter suggested implementing the rule used in the MLS playoffs in the United States and in the CONCACAF Champions League where away goals only count “double” until the end of normal time. (rtr)

LONDON - Manuel Pellegrini insists he feels no pressure to keep his job as Manchester City manager but that won’t stop speculation that his time in the job will end this season following their elimination from the Cham-pions League on Wednesday. City lost 1-0 at Barcelona who won their round of 16 tie 3-1 on aggregate to knock the Premier League champions out of the competition at the same stage for the second successive season.

Barcelona would have won by a far bigger margin on Wednesday if City keeper Joe Hart had not been in superb form, preventing his side from conceding even more goals with at least four outstanding saves.

But despite what was in essence a com-prehensive beating, Pellegrini maintained his stance that circumstances conspired against City and that he does not feel under any immediate threat. After saying talks about his future would take place at the end of the season, whether City retain their Premier League title or not, he said: “Lionel Messi was imperious -- at the moment we have to accept Barcelona are better.

“It is not a failure, it is a disappointment. We have been unlucky to play Barcelona for two years in a row. We have had a restriction on the number of players we can use in the

Champions League. “It is very difficult to beat Barcelona, but the statistics I don’t care about. We cannot analyse what we will do next season because it is too soon after this result. We can do that later.

“It is not easy to play Barcelona. This is the draw, they are very strong. At least we have improved.” City captain Vincent Kom-pany agreed that City need to improve even more as he told Sky Sports after the game.

“The reality is that they were the better team and there is no shame in admitting that. There is a big big difference between Barce-lona, and I would mention Bayern Munich, and the rest,” Kompany said.

“You can win the Premier League, you can beat Arsenal and Chelsea and so on, and you can lose to them as well, but between all those teams and the ones I have mentioned, there is a huge gap and we have to work to close that gap.”

The average age of the City team that started against Barcelona was over 29 and one way of closing the gap would be for City to buy some younger players, but whether they are signed by Pellegrini or someone else is the unanswered question at the mo-ment.(rtr)

TOKYO — Japan coach Vahid Halil-hodzic opted for experience in naming his first squad since taking over as coach of the national football team.

Halilhodzic, who was just appointed to the job a week ago, selected Milan forward Keisuke Honda and Borussia Dortmund mid-fielder Shinji Kagawa to the 31-man squad that will play home friendlies against Tunisia on March 27 and Uzbekistan four days later. “I want there to be a lot of competition on this team,” Halilhodzic said.

The 62-year-old Bosnian took over from Javier Aguirre after the Mexican was fired last month amid a match-fixing scandal. Other European-based players named to the squad include Inter Milan defender Yuto Na-gatomo and Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki.

Halilhodzic, who guided Algeria to the last 16 of the World Cup last year, has spent his first week in Japan attending J-League games. One notable omission was Gamba captain Yasuhito Endo, Japan’s all-time leader with 152 appearances.

Messi masterclass spells bad news for Real Madrid

BARCELONA - Barcelona may have only beaten Manchester City by a slender margin but the way their Lionel Messi-inspired attack terrorised the Premier League champions’ defence is an ominous sign for Real Madrid ahead of the ‘El Clasico’ on Sunday. Barca sealed a Champions League last eight place with a 3-1 aggregate triumph fol-lowing Wednesday’s 1-0 win but some sloppy finishing and an inspired performance from City keeper Joe Hart kept the winning margin down to a respectable level.

W RLDFriday, March 20, 2015Friday, March 20, 2015

Indonesia has harsh penalties for drug trafficking and resumed execu-tions in 2013 after a five-year gap. Five foreigners were among six people executed in January, the first executions since President Widodo took office in October.

Indonesia unlikely to execute drug convicts

for weeks or monthsScores of eclipse chasers and sci-

entists have invaded the archipelago armed with telescopes, cameras and glasses for safe direct solar viewing ahead of the big event.

Yahoo turned over control of its China operations to its partner Alibaba Group in 2005 as part of a corporate tie-up. Yahoo stopped offering services in China in 2013.Yahoo’s profit for the quarter ending in December fell 52 percent from a year earlier while revenue dipped 1 percent. (ap)

(ant)

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used.

(kmb26)
