The administrators, faculty and staff worked hard to provide the Board with all requested items that represent a decrease. In preparing the 2012-2013 budget, there were challenges. These included an increase in the legal, contractual and mandated expenses. We did see an increase in State Aid for the first time in three years in the amount of $226,827, which helped in closing the gap. The proposed budget maintains all current programs for our students. Reductions include two Elementary teachers, one Jr./Sr. High teacher, and a .5 FTE Special Education teacher. Most of these are due to retirements and our declining enrollment. We believe that the proposed budget, even though very tight, meets the needs of our students. The Board of Education and the District Staff are committed to our mission of doing what is best for our students. Working together now and in the future will hopefully allow us to minimize the impact of budget challenges on our students and families. The Board maintained the two percent proposed tax levy cap. The final tax rates will not be adopted until August 2012, after we have all of our information from the State and assessor’s office. If you have any questions concerning the proposed budget, please contact any board member or the Business Office. Thank you for your continued support of the Eden Central School District. Sincerely, Ronald K. Buggs Superintendent
