Economics and PoliticsMonarchyA political system in which a single family rules from generation to generation. Absolute monarchs claimed a monopoly of power based on divine right.Practiced in places like Saudi Arabia and Oman. Constitutional monarchs: Royal families are merely symbols of state; actual governing goes to elected officials, led by a prime minister and guided by the constitution. (Hello Malaysia.)

Oligarchy is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, education, corporate, religious or military control.

Ex: Russian Federation: MoneyEx: United States: Again Ka-Ching!

A well-known fictional oligarchy is represented by the Inner Party in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

TotalitarianismA highly centralized political system that extensively regulates peoples lives.

Ex: North Korea keeps its people in poverty and uses both police and suveilence equipment to monitor its people. (communist)

Ex: Nazi Germany (Fascist)

Claim to represent its people, they simply want you to respect my authoritah.Government is the sole total concentration of power. (No Korean DAP)Creates an atmosphere of isolation and fear.

DemocracyA political system that gives power to the people as a whole.Industrialization causes traditional monarchy to transition into rational-legal authority.Representative Democracy

Puts authority in the hands of leaders chosen by the people in elections
