How to deal with load shedding amid Eskom crisisECHO REPORTER>>[email protected]
SINCE2008, the countryhasbeenexperiencingacrisisofpowercutsand it doesn’t look like a situationthat will be sorted out anytimesoon.
In a recent statement, EskomurgedallSouthAfricanstopartnerwiththemtosave10%ofelectricityusage throughout the day. Theyadded that saving electricity willmakeitsignificantlyeasiertoman-age the power system during thischallenging time.
As power cuts continue, hereare some tips on how to deal withload shedding:
•Ensure your cellphone is al-ways fully chargedwhen power isavailable.
•Ensure your car, bakkie orbike always has petrol in the be-
causepetrol stationscannotpumpfuel during power outages.
•Ensure you have enough cashbecause ATM’s cannot operatewithout electricity.
•Release automatic electric ga-ragedoormechanismsso that youcan gain access to your propertyduring a power outage.
•Release electric security gatesand switch tomanual operation toavoid being either locked out of orin your home.
•Keepatorchwithfreshbatter-ies by your bedside at all times.
•Get a small LP gas lamp, as itgives good quality lighting for alarge area.
•Boil water and keep it in ther-mos flasks for hot drinks forwhenthe power is scheduled to beswitched off.
•Prepare meals beforehand incase of power cuts.
•Keep refrigerator and freezerdoors closed.Apoweroutage last-ing four hours should not causefoodspoilage, andafreezershouldkeep frozen food safe for at least aday. It is a good idea to have alter-native snacksavailable thatdonotneed refrigeration.
•Fillplasticcontainerswithwa-ter, still leaving some space insideeach container for expansion dur-ing freezing in adeep freeze or thefreezer compartment of yourfridge. This frozen bottled waterwill help keep food cold during apower outage.

Pupils pray against social ills
PHOTO: SUPPLIEDTHE Themba Njilo foundation onSunday hosted a back to schoolprayer at the city hall. Theprayer which started off with astreet parade opposite UNISAwas aimed at praying againstsocial ills affecting schools suchas violence, crime, teenage pregnancy, low pass rate, satanism,HIV and AIDS and drug abuse.
PUPILS are urged to enter the South Afri-can Maths Olympiad (SAMO) happeningin March.
Thecompeti-tionisopentoallGrade eight andGrade 12 pupilsin the country.
According toSouth AfricanMathematicsFoundation(SAMF) execu-tive director,Professor Jo-hann Engelbre-cht, mathemat-ics has throughthe ages beenseen as the queen of all sciences.
Everything in existence is supported bymathematics and theprosperity of a country ishighly dependent on the state of mathematicsin the country.
“DNAanalysis, forinstance, isamathemati-cal theory and even finger prints and retinascans needmathematics for the classification. This makes biological mathematics one of themostexcitingcareersthatwillplayamajorrolein the field of science in the next century.
Engelbrecht strongly recommends that allpupils who plan to further their education at
university take part in the Olympiad from anearly age.
“Our learner development programmesstartatGradefourandthemajorityofpastwin-nersofthehighschoolOlympiadhavebeentak-ingpart inourprogrammessince theywere10
years old,” hesaid.
The firstroundof theSA-MO will be tak-ing place on 12March at eachindividualschool; the du-ration is onehour and theschool canschedule itsown time.
Theentryfeeis R24 per pupil
for schools in South Africa and schools withmore than100 entrants can enter at a reducedfee of R20 per pupil. Pupils at Dinaledi schoolscan enter free of charge since their entry fee issupported by the Department of Basic Educa-tion.

Zuma is expected to touch on issues of lack of service delivery, poverty, unemployment, attacks on foreign business owners and Eskom's energy crisis whichhas resulted into load shedding.
“Participation in SAMO ultimately preparespupils for tertiary education. “ HE MADE MY ENEMIES COME ANDCONFESS WHAT THEY DONE TO ME”I first heard about Mr Shake on a community radiotalk show. I took his number down and booked anappointment. He charged me to read my fortune. Iwas shocked when he told me my name, and my hus-band’s name. Mr Shake saw that my husband and Iwere fighting. He mentioned that my husband was in-volved with another woman which I couldn’t believe. He then showed me the other woman in a mirror andI was shocked!! I had lived for 10 years with unhappi-ness in my marriage until now. Mr Shake cast a spelland the other women separated with my husbandand later both confessed to me. Today we live happywith respect and no fighting after Mr Shake bindedhim to me. I recommend him to others who are suf-fering and regard him as my guide. My husband hasbeen to him and his business has improved.
He also helps with other problems, love, luck, marriage, business, work, etc. If you would like to
