Also, Elmira’s win over St. John Fisher College marked the first time since the 2005-06 season that EC has opened conference play with two consecutive victories. GREAT START TO 2014 The Elmira women opened the New Year with a pair of Empire 8 Conference wins over Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College. Elmira’s win over Nazareth upped EC’s record to 8-5 in the first games of the New Year over the last 13 seasons. BEST START SINCE 2006-07 With a 6-2 overall record, the Soaring Eagles are off to their best start since the 2006-07 season when the Purple and Gold opened the year 7-2. The 2006-07 women finished the season with a 21-7 record, El- mira’s third 20-plus win season and also EC’s second best overall re- cord in program history. CLUTCH PLAYS DOWN THE STRETCH Against St. John Fisher, captains Jessica Zoltowski’14 and Liz For- rest’14 made a handful of key plays down the stretch to help seal the victory. First Zoltowksi converted an and-one opportunity to tie the game at 59 apiece with just 26 seconds to play. Then, on the very next possession, Forrest slid into the paint to take a charge and give the ball back to the Soaring Eagles with a chance to win the game. On the final possession, the pair would hook-up on a play which brought For- rest to the charity stripe for the game-winning free throws. Her previous career high dates back to last season when she scored 16 points in a 70-47 win over Wells College on November 25, 2012.
Win streaK at fiveWith back-to-back wins, the Elmira women have successfully upped their win streak to five games. It is the first time in six years that Elmira has had a five-game win streak. The last time EC pieced together five or more wins dates back to the 2007-08 season when the Purple and Gold won six straight games.
no threes, no proBlemIn Elmira’s nine point win over Nazareth College, the Soaring Eagles went 0-4 from the three point line, marking the first time EC has not made a single three pointer since January 17, 2009 when Elmira went 0-10 in a loss to Stevens Tech. Elmira’s last victory without hitting a three-pointer prior to Friday came on February 9, 2008 against Alfred University when the women went 0-11 in a 61-55 win.
season high shootingElmira went .500 from the field on 20-for-40 shooting in their two point win over St. John Fisher College, marking a season high field goal per-centage for the Soaring Eagles. It is their highest since last season’s 63-45 win over Houghton College when Elmira also made .500 percent of their field goals, going 26-for-52 from the field.

She is second in points (1,247), second in free throws made (269), third in field goals made (423), fourth in three-point field goals made (132), and she is 12th in assists (154). finDing a Way to WinAgainst St. John Fisher College, the Soaring Eagles were outrebounded 28-21 but still managed to walk away with a two point victory. The last time Elmira was outrebounded by as many as seven or more and was still able to win dates back to January 24, 2012 when EC clipped Alfred Uni-versity, 79-76 after being outrebounded by 11.
DouBle-Digit sCoring streaKZoltowski has scored double-digits in each of the first eight games of the 2013-14 season and dating back to last year, the senior has eclipsed the double-digit threshold in 15 straight games.
