STEM Night, hosted by Grantham Elementary with Mrs. Heath in charge. Hey! Hi, this is Sunshine, and I will tell you about S.T.E.M. night. Here are some questions you might have had about it… When was Stem Night? Thursday, February 23, 2017. What did the students do? Well, they created, designed, imagined, explored, in-vented, improved skills that had to do with Science and Engineering through hands on activities! There were also teachers there helping and talking to parents about MATH! They did:

Tumbling Towers- build tower paper and paper towel rolls Boxing Beans-Make a box strong enough to hold beans Thrill seeker –roller coaster Learning from Failer- Foul Monkeys in Boat Hover Craft- now that was fun! Get the balloon to hover. Spaghetti Tower-build a tower w/spaghetti

What did they learn? It’s not perfect & Try, Try again!!! How did they learn it? By working together! How did the family members participate? There was a sign-up sheet. Kids 5 and up and families participated. Childcare was provided in the library for younger kids. It was FREE admission, Pizza for all and PRIZES! I thought it was really fun, my favorite part was taking the pictures of everybody's project experiments! I also enjoyed the science activities a lot! 100th Day of School100th Day of School100th Day of School By Navayah C. and ShaelynnL. 100’s Day Celebration was on February 6, 2017. 100’s day is really on the 7th but we were very busy that day getting ready for the concert! 100th Day, this year, is where we, students & staff, try to dress up as old peo-ple and do fun things that has to do with 100! They were counting, coloring, gluing, frosting, etc.! Then we saw some kids that looked 100 years old, where they did a good job dressing up. We saw one with a beard and mustache and we saw many peo-ple with grey hair, canes and robes on. Which made me laugh. On 100th day the little kids made100 fruit loop necklaces, drew a picture of themselves at

age 100, made a 100 Day Crown, stacked 100 cups - that was fun, they read a 100’s day story and frosted & ate a cookie. The 6th graders helped with the young students with all their projects! There were teacher’s that was dressed up as old people too! All were having a fun time! Now, thinking about 100’s day: I have a few questions for you. Do you like 100’s day? Do you know someone that is 100 years old? Do you have a 100-year-old pet? Do you have a picture that you made for 100’s day that you made before? Do you want to be 100 years old? If you are ten right now in 2017, in 100 years it will be 2117! What will our world be like in the fu-ture? Will we still be getting old and wrinkly! We hope not! We must find the fountain of youth! I hope that we will by then!

How did it come about that we celebrate this day? Presidents' Day is not

actually the name of the official Federal holiday. It is actually Washington's

Birthday but most call it President's Day or Presidents Day, which can

lead to confusion.

So, Washington's Birthday, also known as Presidents' Day, is a federal holiday held on

the third Monday of February. The day honors presidents of the United States, including

George Washington, the USA's first president. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of

President George Washington, it is still officially called, “Washington's Birthday”, by the federal

government. It became a federal holiday in 1879.

What president was born in February? Well, according to

the federal government, the holiday observed on the third Mon-

day in February is officially Washington's Birthday and of

course many Americans believe that this holiday is now called

"Presidents' Day," in honor of both Presidents Washington on

Feb. 22 and Lincoln on Feb. 12.

In California, Connecticut, Missouri, and Illinois, while

Washington's Birthday is a federal holiday, Lincoln's Birth-

day is still a state holiday, falling on February 12 regardless of

the day of the week. Several states honor presidents with official

Groundhogs Day Prediction for 2017! By Kobey via the Groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil! This year the prediction of the ground hog was not what we

wanted to hear, but here it is: In Groundhogeis, he directed the President and

the inner circle of his prediction scrolls, which reads:

“At Gobblers Knob on Groundhogs Day,

We celebrate a worldwide holiday,

It’s mighty cold weather you’ve been braving,

Is it winter or is it summer your craving?

Since we’ve been up all night and starting to toddle,

I, Punxsutawney Phil, shall not doddle,

My faithful followers,

I clearly see,

A perfect clear shadow of me,

Six more weeks of winter, it

shall be!”

So six more weeks it is…about

March 16th for winter to thaw!

This past month we had

our 2017 SUPERBOWL #51!!! This

year the Patriots and the Falcons

made it to the Superbowl. It was a

crazy football playoffs especially in

the Cowboys vs Green Bay. The winners of this year’s 2017 SUPERBOWL were ……

The …… Patriots!!! This is the Patriots 2nd year in a row, to the Super bowl 5 times as winners. They have

been lead there many times with quarterback, Tom Brady. What a way to retire! You know, all of us, mean-

ing myself-Parker, Sid, and Emma- were all pretty bummed that they won because we were going for the

Falcons, but maybe another year! O well, that is sports! On another note: You have to give a yell out for

Lady Gaga though, her ½ time show was fabulous!!! This is all we have for you this month in sports. Remem-

ber-- Have GRIT, Respect, and stay Responsible, Grizzlies! E.S.P.!

Andrea P.

We have asked her many questions and she has answered all of them very well!

We asked her how she likes her job. She said she loves her job. Where did she get

her nursing degree? Eugene, Oregon. How long did it take? It took 3 years. Did she go to col-

lege right after high school? Yes. Was it hard for her? Yes, very challenging. Also in our opin-

ion, she is great at her job here at Grantham, we really like her.

What does she like to do besides take care of kids at school? She likes to cook, garden, read,

and ski. She is a mom, she’s worked for 25 years, she is married and has 4 children: Zac, Ben,

Lydia, and Megan. We asked about her kids: Have they all graduated from high school yet?

No, her oldest Zac, has graduated in 2015 and is in college. Her favorite color is red. Her fa-

vorite food is strawberries. Guess what?! Her husband is the principle of Parkway. WOW!

In our opinion, this great nurse is the best we have had. If you see this amazing nurse

please make sure to say hi or hello. In addition, of course, if you drop in for a visit if you get

sick or hurt then she will care for you! Give her a HUG once in a while for all that she does

for us! Well, that’s all for this month, bye for now. A.K.A.!
