Welcome to the inaugural Eastleigh Film Festival. Boasting unique, interactive experiences and classic films, this new festival runs from 22 – 27 September 2014 and aims to put the excitement back into going to the movies. We’ve hand-picked title-linked locations around Eastleigh Town Centre to host one-off interactive cinematic experiences. Watch the zombie shopping mall infestation of Romero’s horror-classic Dawn of the Dead unfolding in The Swan Shopping Centre and catch the Coen Brothers’ cult comedy The Big Lebowski at Eastleigh’s Hollywood Lanes equivalent, AMF Bowling. These are just two of the many events taking place in this action-packed week.

The Festival aims to support budding film-makers from England and France and as part of our Industry Day we will be screening winning entries from the Festival’s short film competition.

Following the Festival, selected film-makers will be offered dedicated support to develop their practice and career

progression. The submission deadline for short-films is Friday 29th August 2014. For submission criteria and to enter visit:www.eastleighfilmfestival.com This event is supported by RECREATE (Interreg IV A France (Channel) England) which is a cross-border England-France creative enterprise programme to boost economic regeneration and create jobs through the development of the creative industries.

BBC One’s Film 2014 chief film critic Danny Leigh selected his top ten films from cinemas’ best loved genres for the Eastleigh Film Festival – you voted online, choosing which of these classics would make a triumphant return to the big screen at Vue, Eastleigh on our opening night.

Ten films were shortlisted to the three below. Danny Leigh will introduce each of the screenings; talking about why each film made the top of his list.

Opening Night

The Shining (15)(Stanley Kubrick, 1980)

Riding off on a creepy tricycle with the majority of votes was Kubrick’s much-loved hotel horror The Shining. Described by Danny as ‘a vision of cinematic grandeur which will scare you witless’, this is a rare return for the film to the big screen.

The Fly (18)(David Cronenberg, 1986)

Cronenberg’s ‘triumphantly gooey’ sci-fi spectacular tells the tale of a meek scientist transformed after a chance encounter with a humble housefly… “Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

Les Diaboliques (12A) (Henri Georges Clouzot, 1955)

Clouzot’s unforgettable 50s chiller. This is a pitch-black tale of a love triangle among the staff of a run-down boarding school.

The definative zombie flick shuffles its way to Eastleigh’s Swan Shopping Centre. Eastleigh Film Festival comes to a close with a screening of Romero’s uncut, high-definition masterpiece at night in a deserted shopping mall. Scared? You will be!

The film follows the survivors of an expanding zombie apocalypse who take shelter in an abandoned shopping mall to enjoy all its consumerist trappings; before things start to go wrong, really wrong.

“Undoubtedly the zombie movie to end ‘em all.” Time Out

Come and experience an immersive evening of horror. This is not for the faint-hearted, but horror fans will experience this zombie classic like never before.

Refreshments will be available from the Centre’s cafes. This event is for over 18s only.

“Grim, gruelling but beautifully shot, this is intelligent, sophisticated horror.”

You decide the ending of our Regal Walk story With thanks to Recreate we are offering the chance for your words to become part of our Town’s heritage.

To commemorate the site of one of Eastleigh’s first cinemas The Regal Theatre, a series of decorative paving stones are being created to line the Town Centre’s Regal Walk.

Inspired by the people and places in the historical account ‘Tragedy at Bishopstoke Junction’* and created in the style of silent film titles, each stone will be engraved with a section of the story.

Every story needs an ending and this tale is no exception. Will it be yours?

Your entry needs to be 100 characters or less. Winners will be announced during the film festival. Enter online at www.eastleighfilmfestival.com or email: [email protected]
