EARTH MOVING EQUIPMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT FOR MINING AND
LARGE-SCALE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
Course objectivesTo study and practice:
Advanced manual and computerised techniques for the selection of
the most efficient and economical spread of equipment and general
layout
Equipment economics and earthwork cost evaluation analysis.
Planning and managing earth moving projects
Who should attendThis five-day postgraduate level course
(MINN7080), which has been on high demand for many years now, is
aimed at engineers and technicians at technical and managerial
levels involved in the various stages of surface mining and civil
engineering projects planning, execution and project
management.
The course is also offered for degree purposes by the School of
Mining Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Course lecturerThe lecturer is Prof. Zvi Borowitsh of the Israel
Institute of Technology and the Wits School of Mining Engineering,
who has extensive academic experience as well as in managing and
consulting for large-scale earth moving projects. He specialises in
mine excavation, loading and haulage optimisation.
Course StructureThe course is offered over five consecutive days
and can be taken either as part of a formal Wits qualification or
as a short course. Participants have a choice of attending the full
five-day course, completing a successful assignment and writing an
examination to enable them achieve a full Wits Certificate of
Competence; or just to attend the five-day course and receive a
Wits Certificate of Attendance.
Accreditation This course has been accredited for 4 CPD points
with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
