introduction
There are variety between intra and extra oral machine design .
The radiographer must have clear understanding of the operating procedures for the specific equipment that use in dental office to avoid improper exposure of patients and dental personnel .
Types of machines
Intra oral ( film placed inside the mouth )
Extra oral ( film placed out side the mouth )
Component parts
The typical intraoral dental x-ray machine features three component parts .
1- tube head : that produces dental x-ray .
2- extension arm :
suspended the tube head the electrical wires and allows the movement .

3- control panel : allows the dental radiographer to regulate the x-ray beam ,the control panel is plugged into electrical outlet .that may be mounted to the floor or wall support . Or remote wall location outside the dental operatory .
The control panel consist of :
On-off switch Exposure button Control devices to regulate
the x-ray beam and kilovaltage and also contain timer .

A device use for hold the intraoral film in the mouth .
Film holders eliminate the need for patient to stabilize the film .
Its required for paralleling technique .
