Our HistoryDrexel University was founded in 1891

as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science

and Industry by Philadelphia financier

and philanthropist Anthony J. Drexel to

provide educational opportunities in the

“practical arts and sciences” for women

and men of all backgrounds.

Drexel has expanded in the past several

decades, and now has a law school and

one of the largest medical schools in the

country. Drexel University Sacramento

opened in 2009, fulfilling the region’s

need for high-quality, private, not-for-

profit, experiential education.
