Our HistoryDrexel University was founded in 1891
as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science
and Industry by Philadelphia financier
and philanthropist Anthony J. Drexel to
provide educational opportunities in the
“practical arts and sciences” for women
and men of all backgrounds.
Drexel has expanded in the past several
decades, and now has a law school and
one of the largest medical schools in the
country. Drexel University Sacramento
opened in 2009, fulfilling the region’s
need for high-quality, private, not-for-
profit, experiential education.
