Agricultural market governance on vegetable
supply chain actors Dr. M.V.Durga Prasad

Supply chain of vegetables was studied at large farmer markets like Madanapalle for tomatoes under IDRC-TTI grant. Similar markets are available at Guntur for Chilli and Tadepallegudem for onions etc
Tomatoes are produced in more than 125 villages nearby Madanapalle.
Around 1000 farmers were interviewed with structured questionnaire in 34 sampled villages.
Interviews were conducted for commissioning agents and also for buyers with unstructured questionnaire.

Monitoring about quality of seeds/banned seeds is minimum
Agent’s role in pricing is high

It is possible for government to monitor prices in this proposed system as transactions are transparent.
Automated tendering
In Proposed system Government can seek feedback from outside buyers & Consumers so that quality of seeds can be monitored
No/Judicious role of agent in pricing
Regulations
Licensing of Nursery owners can be given strictly under farmers’ feedback
Information about variety of seeds at seed distributors in order to act at Market by AMC officials/agents
Quality of seeds to be checked
Price monitoring can be easily be done through automated system where farmers involvement and buyers involvement in price determination is possible.
Contd.
Agent’s role in pricing should be at minimum level but their inputs will generate scores of farmers and buyers.
This will help government to know about the performances of farmers and buyers in terms of input prices on par with market prices defined by agent.
Best farmer and best buyer can be selected by the government at the end of each period.
There should be some criteria for eligibility in terms of volume of sales during the period.
Mostly in many markets though officially commission is fixed but they manipulate it and mostly farmers were affected. However this can be eliminated if an automated model is implemented.
The following figures shows about the design of automated web based model
