NME have immediately targeted there audience wit the use of central and graphic images. Both of these images show the band producing or playing live music, a key feature to NME fans. Furthermore these images establishes the magazine as a rock and roll genre, through denim jackets and electric guitars stereotypically linked towards the rock and roll genre. Furthermore the images show the production of music and therefore are targeting the prosumers within the NME community.

The NME magazine headline follow the codes and conventions of the magazine colour scheme using red, white and black to represent the rock and roll genre. Furthermore the cracked font represents the rebellious and dangerous side of rock and roll and the band itself. Finally the use of the headline being a pull quote draws the reader further into the article and makes them want to find out more about the band itself as well as creating a more personal relationship between reader and audience.

The use of buzz words such as ‘World Exclusive’ suggest that this magazine is the only magazine to cover the story and therefore makes the reader want to buy the magazine or read further into it to find out this exclusive information.

The use of a standfirst informs the reader about what is coming up further within the article and draws them into the article making them want to read further due to this brief but exciting information

Finally giving away exclusive information about the band makes the reader further interested within them and want to read more into the article.

First of all the headline within the double page spread is a question, thus creating a relationship between the magazine and audience questioning them and enticing them to read further into the question As well as this the headline font is bold and strong representing the bands view as well as the colour following the colour scheme of the artists clothing and the gold font linking to the main artist. . Furthermore it also plays upon the artists name ‘Will.I.Am’ creating a pun and representing the magazine as a fun and easy going magazine.

The central image covers both sides of the double page spread connoting there importance and success. The image portrays the four band members, however three are translucent and wearing dull colours, whereas the man at the front is lit brightly

in gold portraying that he is the most successful of the band as well as the magazine article mainly featuring around him. Furthermore his clothing, bright gold suit and gold sunglasses portray his hip hop genre of music as well as his posture

representing his confidence and success needed in this genre of music. Finally colours of the artists clothing link towards the main headline.

A pull quote is used from the band within a black background to stand out and draw the reader further into the article as well as drawing them into the article on a more personal level. Furthermore the arrows draw the audience attention to the main body of text and follow the colour scheme of the article.

The main body of texts questions are in bold making a more easily navigable read for the audience. Furthermore the classy slick font type represent the magazine as a cool and up to date hip hop magazine.

The use of features upon the top corner of the page help the audience to navigate through the magazine with ease. As well as this the brand name

and numbers are published to further help the ease of navigation.

The double page spread main focus is the central image of the artist Florence. This image connotes her recent dominance over the USA music industry, represented through her sitting upon the American flag. This also links into the the headline

“USA got the love’. Furthermore the use of black clothing and red hair further comply with the mis-en-scene of the flag and also portray her rock and roll pop genre of music, stereotypically seen through red and black.

The headline also takes up both sides of the double page spread immediately drawing the audience attention. This also links into Florence dominating the US music industry with “USA got the love’ connoting that Florence and the Machine are extremely popular within the USA however It also plays with the title of her recent song ‘You’ve got the love’. The headline also continues the mis-en-scene of the image with the word USA just above the American flag linking the two together. Finally the wavy font type suggest the artist is classy and youthful representing her personality.

A stand first is used to set up the top of the article and draw the audience further into it. As well as this the clean and stylistic font represent the magazine as a professional and classy magazine. Furthermore by putting the artist name within a blue font it makes it stand out significantly and further suggest she is the main feature of the magazine. As well as this the use of a question within the stand first engages the audience with the magazine and creates a more personal relationship as well as drawing them further into the article and emphasising that they should read it

The use of a drop capital indicates where the article starts following typical codes and conventions of the NME magazine as well as making the article more

easily navigable for the reader.

The central image of the magazine establishes the genre of the magazine using the mis-en-scene surrounding the artist. The strong bold eyeliner and the red and black checked shirt as well as wrist tattoo stereotypically connotes the rock and roll connotation represented around her. Furthermore the bold and confident posture represent her as on outgoing figure which is also associated with the rock and roll genre. Finally the fact that it takes up one side

of the double page spread suggest that she is the main feature within the article as well as an important figure within the music industry also suggesting that the magazine is up to date.

The headline of the magazine is visually impacting and unique, immediately catching the audience attention. This headline is also used as a pull quote further pulling the audience into the article. The font and block capital lettering also establish the brands rock and roll identity with its chaotic lettering representing the fast paced and rebellious nature of the rock and roll genre. Furthermore the black and white coloured font further represents the rock and roll theme stereotypically associated with these certain colours.

The article has only a small proportion of text upon the double page spread showing that the magazine is focussed upon the visually appealing aspects and therefore represents itself as a unique and youth targeted magazine

The use of by-line and credits provide information for the audience upon who wrote the article. Furthermore the use of italics and bold red colouring emphasise and highlight the main points within the article.

The central image focus upon Solange Knowles. She is represented as a bold and outgoing figure wearing a bright red dress and her upright posture connoting her confidence of recent success. This is also used as a male gaze as a provocative image. Furthermore

many graphic images in black and white are used with her in many different poses along the double page spread. These images are used to represent her personality, through serious, fashionable, fun and crazy poses connoting her a versatile figure. Finally the use

of these colours, especially placing a blue jumper on follow the convention of her r&b music genre.

The article is laid out in a unique and original way, using the graphic images to border the top of the double page spread. Furthermore the use of a standfirst instantly draw the audience attention and draws them further into the article. This emphasis is also seen through highlighting the artist name within bold blue, following the brand identity colour scheme, and making the artist stand out further drawing the audience eye.

The use of a pull quote within the article draws the audience further into the article by giving them a snippet of information. As well as this it creates a more personal relationship between the reader and the artist therefore making them want to read further. Furthermore the use of credits and by-lines are used to give the audience further information upon the article.

The use of font and colours throughout the article creates a representation of class, professionalism and an up to date fashionable magazine. This is represented through clear and stylistic fonts and strong bold colours which overall captures the reader attention and draws them further into the article.
