Saint Ann and Saint Brendan Collaborative

Pastoral Planning and Disciples in Mission

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

At the end of this month, Saint Brendan and Saint Ann Par-

ishes start the process of writing a local pastoral plan.

As you know, our Parishes are involved in the implementa-

tion of Disciples in Mission, which is often called (even by me)

the "Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Boston." However,

in some ways this is a misnomer. Disciples in Mission isn't

really a Pastoral Plan. Instead, it is a context for local pastoral

planning. The heart of Disciples in Mission is in the local pas-

toral plans.

Father Tom and I are currently in the process of developing

a team of twelve parishioners to be a plan writing team. The

Parish Council and the staff have put forward names in nomi-

nation. Father Tom and I are working with this list, with lots of

discernment and lots of prayer. We will begin early this week

to approach twelve parishioners to represent the parishes on

this team.

Being on the plan writing team is a huge commitment. It

will take about fifteen months to actually write the plan. Along

the way, there will be many hours of training and of discus-

sion. Ten times this discussion will be in the same room as

our sister collaborative in Milton, Readville, and Hyde Park, so

as to exchange ideas and perspectives.

We will be strongly assisted in the process by our support

team, who are from Catholic Leadership Institute and our

Evangelization, Finance, Real Estate, Facilities, Vocations,

and Human Resources consultants from the Archdiocese of

Boston.

We will also have the benefit of being able to see the elev-

en plans which eleven Phase One Collaboratives are develop-

ing. They will be available this summer. We will bring in team

members from these Collaboratives to share their experienc-

es.

In the end, we will produce a plan which has approximately

three priorities for our Collaborative, to help us focus on

Evangelization and vocations, especially vocations to the di-

ocesan priesthood.

Each priority will have SMART goals associated with it,

which help us to focus and measure the effectiveness of our

efforts.

In June of 2016, we will submit this plan to Cardinal Seán

for his approval.

The plan will go through many drafts. We will publish these

drafts on a regular basis, and have many open meetings in the

parishes to discuss and get feedback on the drafts.

Many of you responded to the Disciple Maker Index survey

done in February and March. The data from that survey will

help us to form our priorities.

The first meeting of the team will be on April 28, so we will

by then be able to let you know who is on the plan writing

team. Please pray for Father Tom and for me as we form the

team, and then pray really hard for the team as they begin

their work.
