Guangxi is located in the south of China at 20°54′-26°23′ north latitude and
104°29′-112°04′ east longitude, where the Tropic of Cancer runs through its central
part, and lies Guangdong to the east, Hunan province to the northeast, Guizhou
province to the northwest. Its south is Beibu Gulf and neighbor province Yunnan to
its west; it faces Hainan province across the sea to its south, bordering the Socialist
Republic of Vietnam to its southwest. The total area of land under its jurisdiction
covers 236700 km2, which accounts for 2.5% of the national total area and ranks 9th
in China provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central
Government. In Guangxi ,there are 14 municipal cities including Nanning, Guilin,
Liuzhou and Beihai. Its capital city is Nanning.
As a coastal region, Guangxi’s jurisdiction covers an area of sea of Beibu Gulf of
about 129,300 km², and a coastline of 1,595km in length that extends from the eastern
Yingluogang, a junction of Guangdong and Guangxi, and ends up at the western
Beilun River mouth bordered by Vietnam. There are 697 islands of a total area of 84
km² along the coast. Weizhou Island is the largest one along the coast of Guangxi,
covering an area of about 84 km². Along the coast there is an area of over 1,000 km²
of mudflat, of which approx. 90% is soft sand beach. The shallow sea area is 6,400
km².
(ⅱ) Climate
Guangxi is a region of sub-tropical monsoon climate where it is warm and there
is a lot of rainfall and adequate sunshine. In summer the day is long and hot and there
is rainfall from time to time while, in winter, the day becomes short and dryly warm.
Meteorological disasters, such as drought, rainstorm and flood, tropical cyclone, gale,
hail, thunderstorm, low temperature and freezing injury attributed to the interaction
between the warm-wet air flow coming along from the southwest and the transformed
cold air mass from the north, take place rather often. The annual average
temperature is 21.1°C, rainfall 1,546.0mm, and annual sunshine duration 1,503.4
hours. July is the hottest month and January is the coldest. The annual temperature in
all the cities in average is between 17.2 to 23.8℃.

(ⅲ)Population and Ethnic Groups
In 2011, the total population of Guangxi reached 51.59 million. The permanent
population was 46.45 million, of which 19.42 million were urban and 27.03 million
rural. Guangxi is an autonomous region inhabited by different ethnic groups. There
are 12 of them as aboriginal nationalities, namely Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao, Dong,
Mulao, Maonan, Hui, Jing, Yi, Shui and Yilao and 40 more such as Manchu, Mongol,
Korean, Bai, Tibetan, Li and Tu are of other ethnic minorities. The population of
minority nationalities in the autonomous region is 19.73 million, taking up 42% of the
regional permanent population. The population of Zhuang takes up 73.2% of the total
population of minority nationalities.
(ⅳ) Environment And Resources
⒈ EnvironmentEnvironmentEnvironmentEnvironment Guangxi enjoys favorable geographical strength with
direct accesses to sea, river and international border. Standing at the convergence
point of east China, central China and west China of the mainland and the conjunction
part of South China Economic Ring, Southwest China Economic Ring and ASEAN
Economic Ring, Guangxi serves as the most convenient gateway to the sea and an
important passage linking Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao with west China. In
2010 ,China-ASEAN Free Trade Area took its form on schedule, and Guangxi
became a communicating hub of even more strategically important to connect
southwest China, south China, Central China and ASEAN members.
⒉ Resources
Land Resources The land area of Guangxi is 236,700 km2,
accounting for 2.5% of the total area of the country and ranking the 9th among theprovinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. In the autonomous region the areaof cultivated land is 4,430,500 hm2, which is 0.09 hm2 per capita.
Mineral Resources Guangxi has a great variety and large reserves of
mineral resources and rich in nonferrous metal such as aluminum and tin in particular,is one of the 10 key areas of nonferrous metals production in the country. In theautonomous region ,145 mineral varieties have been found and the volume of reserves

of 97 varieties have been approved, of which, 64 varieties rank top 10 and 12varieties rank top in terms of deposits in the country.
Hydropower Resources In Guangxi ,there are many rivers with
abundant hydro-energy resources. The total length of surface rivers is 34,000 km. Theannual normal runoff is approx. 188 billion cubic meters and the volume of surfacewater resource is 147.76 billion cubic meters, accounting for 6.4% of the total volumeof surface water in the country ranking the 4th among the provinces, autonomousregions and municipalities. The deposit of hydro-energy resources is 21.33 millionkilowatts, of which a capacity of 17.51 million kilowatts is developable. HongshuiRiver is called A Rich Mine of China’s water and electricity resources due to itslength of 658 kilometers in total with rapid currents and abundant hydro-energyresources.
Marine Resources Guangxi is rich in ocean aquaculture resources. As
a famous fishery grand and pearl production site of the country . It has more than 50main economic fish species and 10 economic shrimp species. There are large offshorereserves of petroleum and natural gas, and an area of over 7,200 hm2 of coastalmangroves of many varieties which ranks second in the country.
Animal And Plant Resources In Guangxi , there are 1,145
species and subspecies of terrestrial vertebrates have been found, which ranks secondin the country, of which 167 species are included in the first class and second classprotection of rare species, and 24 species in the national first class. There are 8562species of 1820 families of 297 genera of wild plants, which ranks third in the country,of which 18 species, such as golden camellia, Cathaya argyrophylla and parashoreachinensis var. kwangsiensis are in the list of first focused protection of the country.The forested area of the autonomous region is 13.7308 million hectares and the forestcoverage rate is 57.8%.
Tourism Resources Guangxi is one of the provinces endowed with
tourism resources. There have been 233 scenic spots/areas developed, including 133scenic spots of national A class of which 2 at 5A and 71 at 4A, 42 industrial andagricultural tourism demonstration spots at state level and 205 at regional level, 1tourist holiday resort at state-level and 9 at regional level, 12 China’s outstandingtourist cities, 1 China top tourist county and 16 outstanding tourist counties/cities ofGuangxi. In the region there is almost everywhere picturesque scenery of greenmountains, clear waters, queer and beautiful caves and stones of karst landform aswhat can be seen in Guilin, scenic seashore of subtropical features as one can see inthe Silver Beach in Beihai, simple and unique minority customs, cultural relics andhistoric sites such as Huashan rock painting, Ling Canal, Zhenwu Ge and Taipingpeasant uprising site as well as the typical southern China frontier customs of Detianwater falls, all of such enchanting scenes and simple style customs make Guangxi atourist holiday resort of Chinese and foreign tourists’ attraction. In 2011 the

autonomous region received 3,027,900 tourists and earned from tourism 6.835 billionyuan.
Local Products Guangxi is big region/province of agricultural production
which produces a great variety and quantity of featured products mainly includetropical and subtropical fruits such as litchi, Longan, pineapple, mango, banana,orange and grapefruit, medicinal crops such as pseudoginseng root, amomumvillosom, five-leaf gynostemma-herb and corsvenor momordica fruit, aquatic productssuch as prawn, tilapia, pearl and oyster, agricultural byproducts such as vegetables,sugarcane, hemp crops, silkworm cocoon, resin, mu oil, cassava, aniseed, anise oiland cassia bark. Guangxi’s sugar manufacturing and canning are the main agriculturalproduct processing industries in Guangxi where its output of sugar reaches over halfof the total in China and the canned products such as pine apple, stringless green beanand water chestnut are popular in domestic and international markets. Traditionalhandicraft industries and handicrafts mainly include fireworks, Zhuang brocade, Yaoembroidery, shell carving, awn and rattan weaving.
(ⅴ) Infrastructure and Transportation
AirportGuangxi has witnessed the completion of 6 civil airports respectively in
Nanning, Guilin, Wuzhou, Liuzhou, Beihai and Baise. In 2010, 34 Chinese andForeign airlines opened and operated 179 routes between Guangxi and Hong Kong,Macao, Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Yangon, Phnom Penh,Vientiane, China’s economic developed areas and provincial capital cities in the east,south, west and central parts of China, connecting 41 cities at home including HongKong, Macao and Taiwan ; connecting 12 cities of 11 foreign countries. The airthroughput totaled 12,010,500 passengers and 94,800 tons of freight in the year.
Harbor In Guangxi, the three major coastal harbors Fangchenggang,
Beihai and Qinzhou are well-connected with superhighways and railways and enjoyrather complete harbor transportation service systems. Fangchenggang is one of the19 coastal hub harbors of China. In 2010 ,Fangchenggang Harbor had built 27 berthsof over 10,000 tons of capacity each , 13 deep-water berths of 50.000 tons of capacityeach including 1 berth of 200,000 tons of capacity and 4 berths of 150,000 tons ofcapacity each, and become China’s first hub harbor that allows 5 cross-channel shipsto berth at the same time. In 2011 ,a total volume of cargo handled in the harbors ofFangchenggang, Beihai and Qinzhou was 90.24 million tons, 15.91 million tons and47.16 million tons respectively.
Highway By the end of 2010, the total mileage of highways in Guangxi
reaches 104,800 km, including 2,754 km superhighway, 944 km first grade highwayand 9,132 km second grade highway. The length of highway and length of

superhighway rank 21th and 15th respectively among the provinces/regions andmunicipalities of the country, and rank 9th and 4th respectively in the western area.
Railway By the end of 2010, in Guangxi the length of railway lines in
service is 3,238.8 km, including the length of 541.8 km multiple track, and had been
connected to the three major coastal harbors and neighboring provinces including
Guangdong, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, and even to ASEAN via Vietnam railway
network. The railway main lines within the region meet high technical standards and
have strong transport capability.
Inland Waterway The length of inland waterways in Guangxi is
6,157 km, of which 5,591 km is navigable, including 3,506 km of classified waterwayand 573 km above third class accounting for 10.25% of the navigable length, and 291km of newly increased waterway of second class. Xijiang waterway, of 1,000 tons ofcapacity, has been competed, which connects Nanning with Guangzhou across thePearl River Delta Economic Center and enjoys favorable transportation conditions.
Port Guangxi has 17 national class 1 ports, including 9 waterway ports,
5 land ports and 3 airports. The waterway ports are Fangchenggang harbor, Beihai
Liuzhou port and Guigang port. The land ports are Dongxing, Friendship Pass,
Shuikou, Longbang and Pingxiang. The airports are Nanning, Guilin and Beihai.
(ⅵ)Finance And Insurance

financial institutions, including 2 policy banks and 64 institutional networks of them,
5 sizable commercial banks and their 1947 networks , 47 networks of 7 joint-equity
commercial bank, 147 networks of 3 city commercial banks, 2 networks of 2 foreign
banks, 2,285 networks of 109 medium and small size financial organization in the
countryside and 923 networks of 1 postal savings bank, and in addition there are 4
asset management corporations.
Insurance In Guangxi ,there are 1,990 branches of insurance companies at
different levels. There are 27 branches at regional level including 16 branches ofproperty insurance and 11 of life insurance. There are 185 branches at city level andcentral sub-division companies. The branches companies and their sales departments

increase to 380 and market service departments increase to 1,398. There are 73intermediary person representatives and branches and 1,689 agency institutions.
Post In Guangxi, there are 1,472 postal service networks of which, 1,338
are self-run and 134 are agencies, and 1,114 postal branches and agencies in thecountryside and 358 in the cities. There are 1,200 electronic branch bureaus/offices.
Telecommunications Guangxi has been equipped with rather
complete modern communication network covering the whole region. In Guangxi’s
telecommunications industry there are 4 fundamental operation enterprises and 267
value-added service enterprises, and there are 3.3932 million internet users and
22.145 million mobile phone users.

In 2010, Guangxi held 3 commodity exhibitions in Indonesia, Vietnam and thePhilippines successively attracting over 40,000 professional buyers with a tradevolume of over $US 200 million concluded, and encouraged 480 enterprises withsupport to attend different kinds of well-known exhibitions such as the Canton Fairaccomplishing a trade volume of $US 1.098 billion. In 2011 Guangxi successivelyheld Guangxi Commodity Fair in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam attended by over120 Guangxi exhibitors with exhibits such as heavy-duty trucks, excavators, cars, andtraditional industrial products of Guangxi such as sugar, cement, building materials,forest produce, chemical products, textile and foodstuff, and hi-tech products such asnew medicines, electronic information and software development.
(ⅸ)Education, Scientific Research and Health
Education In 2011 the enrollment rate for children of school age
reached 99.48% in Guangxi,, the promotion rate of primary school kids enteringmiddle school reached 98.01%, and the promotion rate of middle school kids enteringhigh school reached 83.44%. In Guangxi there are 22,567 postgraduates at 11graduate training units/institutions, 33,459 full time teachers and 600,100 students at70 institutions of higher learning, and 957,000 learners at 375 general secondaryspecialized schools, vocational schools and technical schools. Guangxi University ForNationalities is one of the first National Undergraduate Talent Bases of UncommonForeign Languages, one of the higher education institutions that offer the mostcomplete undergraduate courses on southeast Asian languages and, blessed withdistinguished advantages, has trained a lot of talents over years in the field ofsoutheast Asian language teaching and scientific research and achieved fruitfulresults.
Scientific Research In 2011, there were 723 scientific research
institutions in Guangxi including 124 scientific research institutions under

departments of science and technology, 203 technical development institutions undermiddle and large scale enterprises, and 205 research and development institutionsunder governmental departments at and above county levels of which 7 underdepartments of central government of China, 73 under departments of the autonomousregion, 74 under departments of prefectural city governments and 51 under countygovernment departments. 102,900 people were engaged in scientific and technicalactivities. A total of 1.047 billion yuan of fund for 5,489 projects were arranged in the11th five-year plan of Guangxi on scientific and technical development. There were2,465 items of science and technology results registered at provincial and ministeriallevel, 714 items awarded Guangxi science and technology progress, 19,500 patentsapplied and 11,900 authorized, and a total sum of 1.051 billion yuan of 1,551technology introductionoductionoductionoduction contractscontractscontractscontracts signed.signed.signed.signed.
Health The medical and health service of Guangxi has been developed
well and the medical and health care has been improved gradually. By the end of 2011in Guangxi, there were 10,645 health institutions including 1,745 hospitals and clinics,and 203,600 health technicians. There are 39 class-three & grade A hospitalsdistributed almost in all cities in the region. There are rather well known hospitalssuch as the affiliated hospitals of Guangxi Medical University, and the People’sHospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Ⅱ. Economy
(ⅰ)Guangxi’s Gross Domestic Product & Its MainEconomic Indicators
During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, Guangxi’s economy grewsignificantly strong. The regional GDP grew at an average annual rate of 13.9%,which reached 956.9 billion yuan in 2010, and realized at least a two-fold increase of12 key indicators, namely the regional GDP, GDP per capita, government revenue,industrial added value, service added value, overall investment in fixed assets, totalprofits of industrial enterprises above designated size, total retail sales of consumergoods, total import & export value, actual foreign investment, deposits of financialinstitutions and loan balance.
In 2011, Guangxi’s GDP reached 1171.435 billion yuan, making a breakthroughto reach over one trillion for the first time, and ranking at 18 in China as the yearbefore. The per capita GDP reached 25326 yuan. Guangxi’s GDP has been growingfor a succession of 7 years at an annual rate over 12% since 2005. The governmentrevenue of Guangxi grew at an annual rate of 25.5% to reach 154.223 billion yuan in2011.

During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, Guangxi hit the 1 Trillion yuanfigure of GDP. Food, automobile and metallurgy became 100 billion yuan industries.Products such as sugar, mini-car, dump truck, diesel engine achieved the best nationalmarket share. Significant progress was made in the readjustment of industrial structure.The structure of the three industries was from 22.9︰37.9︰39.2 adjusted to 17.6︰47.1︰35.4,industrialized rate raised from 1.39 to 2.31 and the industrial added value from 31.7% to40.3% of the GDP, the leading role of industry was further enhanced. The region has,with 25.3 million kilowatts of total installed capacity of power generation, of which15.1 million kilowatts being hydropower, become an important base of power sourcefor the state West-To-East Power Transmission.
In 2011, the total value of industrial output grew at an annual rate of 29.3% toreach 1.5091 trillion yuan, the total output value of above-scale industries grew at anannual rate of 33.1% to reach 1.2836 trillion yuan and the industrial added valuegrew at an annual rate of 17.3% to reach 491.437 billion yuan. Besides food,automobile and metallurgy, increase petrochemical and machinery as 100-billion-yuanindustry and made the regional 100-billion-yuan industries reach 5. There are 23industrial zones of 10 billion yuan of total output value, and Liuzhou car industry parkis the first one that became 100-billion-yuan park. A good start of industrial economyunder the 12th Five-Year Plan has been achieved. In 2011, the total industrial output

value of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone grew at an annual rate of 65.1% toreach 383.668 billion yuan, which is 32 percentage points higher than regionalaverage.

Thanks to the area’s temperate and subtropical climate and coastal advantages,

Guangxi is endowed with unique conditions favorable for development of farming,forestry, animal husbandry and fishery. Rice is most common among local grain crops,and subtropical fruits, medicinal crops, tea oil, cassava, and hemp crops arecompetitive industries of the area. Guangxi is the biggest sugarcane and sugarproduction base and has been producing the biggest output of sugar in China since1992. Hengxian county is the largest Jasmine production and scented tea processingbase where the output of jasmine production and scented tea processing reached over80% of the total of the country. The output of local forest products, such as rosin,aniseed, cinnamon, fennel oil, laurel oil, and wooden hangers ranks in the front of thecountry.
In Guangxi, the heads of dairy buffalo raised and the output of buffalo milk,yellow broilers and oysters rank first in the country, the output of prawn ranks second,the tilapia third, and poultry farming fourth.
During the 11th Five-Year Plan period in Guangxi, the regional advancedagriculture developed faster, the overall agricultural productivity raised greatly, andthe total output value of farming, forestry, stock raising and fishery grew at an annualaverage rate of 13.8%, which reached 272.099 billion yuan in 2010, 1.88 times of thatin 2005. The output of special agricultural products such as sugarcane, silkwormcocoon, cassava, fast-growing and high-yield plantation and aniseed has remained thelargest in the country, and outputs of products such as high-quality paddy rice,bananas, oranges, vegetables, edible fungi and medicinal herbs are at the forefront oftop place in ranking of the country. The quality safety level of agricultural productshas been improving.
In 2011 Guangxi achieved 332.337 billion yuan of total output value of farming,forestry, stock raising and fishery, which is a year-on-year growth of 22.1%. Theproduction output figures such as mulberry field area, silkworm cocoon output,silkworm egg output, cocoon output per mu, and raw silk output all rank first in thecountry, of which the output of silkworm cocoon has been ranking at the top for asuccession of 7 years and reached 296,300 tons , accounting for over 38% of the totaloutput in the country and 20% worldwide.
In 2011, the forest cover in Guangxi reached 60.5%. The forest area and lumberoutput of planted forest, economic forest, fast-growing and high-yield plantation andeucalyptus plantation in Guangxi stably rank first in the country.

Social Service IndustryIn the 11th Five-Year Plan period Guangxi focused on the development of
modern services, speeding up the development of convention and exhibition, finance,consultation, tourism and port logistics. Guangxi successfully undertookChina-ASEAN Expo, China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and PanBeibu Gulf Economic Cooperation Forum. Five ASEAN countries set up theirconsular organs in Nanning. The number of banking financial institutions hadincreased from 16 to 27, and insurance companies from 10 to 26. Guangxi hadchanged itself from an end of communications to a global passage link with ASEANand a hub of communications connecting south and southwest China. A handlingcapacity of 85 million tons was newly added to the coastal ports’ total of 120 milliontons, and 28 million tons newly added to the river ports’ total of 60 million tons.Guangxi has become the window and frontier for China-ASEAN opening andcooperation.
In 2011, the direct financing of Guangxi capital market reached 33 billion yuan,which is twice as much as that in the preceding year. The added value of financialindustry was 42.952 billion yuan the year through, increasing 5.3% comparing withthe previous year. The income of all insurance business was 21.266 billion yuan,increasing 18.8% compared with the previous year. Guangxi Finance ElectronicSettlement Service Centre was established. The construction of Guilin ComprehensiveReform Test Field of National Service Industry was underway. The income of tourismin the year was 127.781 billion yuan, increasing 34% comparing with the previousyear. The added value of transport, postal service and warehousing in the year was57.764 billion yuan, increasing 10.5% as compared with the previous year. The cargothroughput in ports of designated size was 232.83 million tons, increasing by 25.4%,of which the cargo of foreign trade handled was 90.27 million tons, increasing 24.3%year on year, and the volume of container freight was 1,148,300 TEU, increasing33.0% year on year. The cargo throughput in ports of Guangxi Beibu Gulf reached153.3 million tons, increasing 28.6% year on year. The added value of culture andindustries of relevance reached 3.257 billion yuan.

In 2011, Guangxi’s total value of import and export grew by 31.5% to reach$US 23.33 billion, in which the export value grew by 29.7% to reach $US 12.46billion, and the import value by 33.7% to reach $US 10.87 billion, both topping $US10 billion for the first time. Commodities of over $US 500 million of export valueinclude textile ($US 2.23 billion), articles for daily and other use($US 1.83 billion),agricultural products ($US1.16 billion), chemical products ($US1.11billion) andminerals ($US550 million). Commodities over $US 200 million of import valueinclude Soybean, iron ore, coal. Crude oil, manganese ore, zinc ore, fruits andintegrated circuit.
In 2011, the export of mach-electronic products grew by 37.9% to reach $US4.92 billion, and hi-tech Products grew by 44.6% to reach $US 1.12 billion. Thecontract value of offshore outsourcing service reached $US 30.81 million and theimplemented value $US 4.67 million. The total technology import value reached $US155.5123 million.
In 2011,Guangxi’s main export countries or areas include ASEAN, Hong Kong,United State, European Union, Japan, Australia, Republic Of Korea and India. Guangxi grew at an annually average rate of 19.2% to reach $US 4.049 billion. In2010, the actual use of foreign investment reached $US 912 million, amounting to 2.4times of that in 2005.
In 2011, Guangxi approved 169 overseas investment projects, valuing $US1.03 billion in contractual foreign investment, and actually utilized $US 1.014 billion,increasing 11.2%.
The composition proportion in order of three industries with foreign investmentis: 6.1%, 63.6% and 30.3%. The main fields of investment in order are manufacturing,industries of Transport, warehousing and postal service, production and distribution ofelectricity, fuel and water,farming, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, wholesale andretail trades. There were obviously more enterprises, increased to 24 then from theprevious 19 out of the world top 500, establishing ventures within Guangxi withinvestment in fields of electronic, electricity, food deep-processing, new energy andcommercial operation etc.. In 2011 the top 5 investors of foreign capital in Guangxi inorder of the amount actually used were Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, BritishVirgin Islands and Singapore, from where the actual investment, proportioned to thetotal of that in Guangxi, was 53.54%,11.72%, 7.81%, 5.96% and 3.05% respectively.The amount of investment in Guangxi from Europe, United States, Japan, RepublicOf Korea and other countries was rather less, accounting for 1.4%、0.01%、1.46% and0.13% respectively.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, the total retail sales of consumer goodsgrew at an annual average rate of 19.6%, reaching 331.2 billion yuan in 2010, whichis 2.7 times that in 2005.
In 2011, Guangxi achieved 390.81 billion yuan of total of retail sales ofconsumer goods, increasing 18.0% comparing with the previous year and 11.3% ifprice factor deducted. As per statistics on place of operation, the amount of urbanretail sales of consumer goods was 339.9 billion yuan, up 18.0% comparing with theprevious year, and the amount of rural retail sales of consumer goods was 46.173billion yuan, up 17.9 percent. Catering trade turnover in the year grew at an annualrate of 25% to reach 37.89 billion yuan, and accommodation business revenue was9.21 billion yuan, up 21.5 percent. The number of commodity markets of overhundred-million yuan of annual sales reached 92, wherein the trade turnover in totalwas 107.155 billion yuan.
In 2011, the purchases by enterprises above designated size in wholesale andretail sale trade were in a total of 340.384 billion RMB, up 39.5% comparing with theprevious year, and the sales in a total of 336.572 billion yuan, up 30.0%, in which thewholesale was 230.249 billion yuan, up 27.9 percent, and the retail 106.323 billionyuan, up 34.7 percent comparing with the previous year.
In 2011 in Guangxi, the consumer price index was 106.0 percent, while inurban areas 105.7 percent and rural areas 106.4 percent, and the retail price index was105.9 percent while in urban areas 105.7 percent and rural areas 106.6 percent.

Electronic CommerceThere has been a rapid development of electronic commerce in Guangxi in
recent years. In November 2011 Nanning was chosen as the first 21 StateE-Commerce Demonstration Cities, and in May 2012 the hi-tech zone of Nanningwas selected as one of the first State E-Commerce Demonstration Bases. ElectronicCommerce has been playing an increasingly prominent role in export, agriculturalproduct trading and enterprises’self creation. The Commerce Department of Guangxifocuses with support on the third party e_commerce platform recommended by theMinistry of Commerce to help small and middle size enterprises develop overseasmarkets. On July 24, 2011 CIECC launched Trade2CN Guangxi, and in DecemberGuangxi took the lead in the southwest area to launch Alibaba Guangxi, aninternational subsite of Alibaba. Guangxi Department of Commerce actively gaveguidance to e-commerce providers of the third party to carry out on-line and off-lineactivities for instance, nearly 70 market activities and training on e-commerce and useof e-commerce platform rendered to over 6,000 enterprises.
Guangxi Commerce Department carried out agricultural productmeeting activities through the Ministry Of Commerce’s New Countryside CommerceWebsite, in 2011 achieved an online trade volume of 170 million yuan of agricultural
