Explanation of SymbolsThe following symbols are used throughout this Service Manual.

    Symbols Explanation

Using it for general attention, warning, a notice of the danger that does not specify.

Using the possibility of the electric shock for notice to be careful to.

Mention about written item in the copier BASIC series to understand mention contents.

The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:

    1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between electrical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation. In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accompanies the symbol, the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal. The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front door, and closing the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.

2.In the digital circuits, '1' is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal is "High", while '0' is used to indicate "Low". (The voltage value, however, differs from circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD signal goes on when '0'.

In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in the field. Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller PCB and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.

The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other purposes, and major changes will be communicated in the form of Service Information bulletins. All service persons are expected to have a good understanding of the contents of this Service Manual and all relevant Service Information bulletins and be able to identify and isolate faults in the machine.

    Specifications

ObjectiveObjective PCAM (Printed Contents Access Management) is designed to prevent information leaks caused by unauthorized takeout of printed data.

Features - Deterrent effect (tracking function) The tracking function enables to identify the output source (the user executed a certain print job) by scanning embedded information (user name, date & time, location, etc.). This provides an effective countermeasure against information leaks or unnecessary copy jobs.

    - Prevention effect (scan guard) The scan guard function is applicable to all jobs using the scanner including saving documents in BOX, Send and Copy. In addition to Copy permission / prohibition, advanced access restriction can be achieved for each user by linking to password and / or user authentication.

Information embedding function- ImageWare TrustStamp TrustStamp now provides the extended function to embed Document Scan Lock information. Images embedded with TrustStamp are printable on machines without Document Scan Lock function (only on limited series and models). - Printer drivers and PDL printing function Copiers / printers with Document Scan Lock function can be set for information embedding. - Copy function Scan guard and tracking information can be embedded via Advanced Copy mode. - Box Print function Scan guard and tracking information can be embedded via Advanced Box mode.

    - SuperBOX-Print function Scan guard and tracking information can be embedded also on documents stored in SuperBOX for print jobs. The embedding function is not supported in Advanced mode.

    - MediaToPrint function Scan guard and tracking information can be embedded in documents stored in MemoryMedia for print jobs. The embedding function is not supported in Advanced mode.

Scan Guard FunctionScan Guard Function - Copy function At copy job startup, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from using copy function. - ScanToBox function At ScanToBox job startup, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from being saved in Box. - ScanToSend function At ScanToSend job startup, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from using Send function. - PullScan function At PullScan job startup, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from using PullScan function. - ScanToMedia function (SuperBOX) At ScanToMedia job startup, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from being saved in Media. - MEAP applications for Scan (JCOPY, etc.) With any MEAP application with scan function installed, information is extracted from scanned images in real time to prohibit documents with copy restriction from using scan function.

LimitationsSent / received jobs - PC-FAX does not support Document Scan Lock function (including iW TrustStamp and information embedding by job). - TL codes cannot be embedded in any jobs without hardcopy output such as FAX / IFAX / FTP / SMB / NCP. - Scan guard information cannot be detected from documents received via FAX. Scan guard function is activated only for jobs using Scan function, thus unable to apply to received FAX documents.

    - Document Scan Lock information cannot be embedded in hardcopies of received FAX documents.

Tracking information embedding by Printer Tracking information embedded by a printer includes the PC user name; however, Department ID is not embedded even by the printer under Department ID management.

Prohibition of form merge function When Document Scan Lock function is activated, the form registration is disabled (UI is hidden on User mode). Form merge function cannot be activated concurrently with TL code embedding. BOX backup For documents stored in BOX, setting values including embedded Document Scan Lock and other information are maintained after system backup or restoration. When BOX is migrated between models, setting values are maintained as well as long as Document Scan Lock function is activated in both machines. When BOX is migrated from the machine with Document Scan Lock extension kit license to that without the said license, the output quality is no longer guaranteed for stored documents.

Limitations on enlargement / reduction and Advanced mode Document Scan Lock information cannot be read on images enlarged or reduced in the other machine, thus Document Scan Lock function is disabled.

Limitations on documents with show-through components If the embedded information is shown through the other side of the document, Document Scan Lock information is unable to be read.

Print Conditions for Build JobWhen Document Scan Lock function is activated, the print job is started when a whole job is scanned completely. The job is cancelled unless all print conditions are met.

Conditions to cancel Build Job Forced Document Scan Lock Document Scan Lock information is embedded in the document output in the setting below:Settings/Registration > Function Settings > Common > Document Scan Lock Optional Settings > Document Scan Lock Operation Settings > ON

If any document output in the foregoing setting is included in the job, but the job is started under the following setting, this job is cancelled when a whole document is scanned: Settings/Registration > Function Settings > Common > Print Settings > Document Scan Lock Settings > Forced Document Scan Lock > Set

    Password When Analyzing Embedded Info

If "Password When Analyzing Embedded Info" is set to "Set", the password authentication is required at startup of "Document Scan Code Analyzer for MEAP" to analyze tracking information.By default, under is set to "Set". The initial password is "7654321".

Unless the initial password is changed, tracking information will be open to any users of the machine with "Document Scan Code Analyzer for MEAP" installed. To protect information on IDs of users and Departments, ensure to change the password.

    - Settings/Registration > Function Settings > Common > Print Settings > Document Scan Lock Settings > Forced Document Scan Lock > Set- Tracking Information > Password When Analyzing Embedded Info > Set- The job is cancelled in the following situations under the password authentication environment: Wrong passwords are entered for three times consecutively. The predefined time-out period elapsed before the password is entered. [Cancel] is pressed while the password is entered.

Scan jobs with mixed BOX documents - When multiple documents with different embedding conditions specified (Box documents) are scanned together, the new embedded conditions will be overridden on the scanned document. This nullifies all the existing embedded conditions specified to Box documents.- The above is not applicable to documents with watermark or embedded information. ScanToBox for such documents will not delete embedded information because the information embedded in a document cannot be edited. Instead, a job is generated by incorporating multiple embedding conditions.

    Basic Function

Document Scan Lock FunctionThis function embeds hidden information (TL codes) on the background of the output paper at Copy / Print to manage document duplication. Information including User Name, Date and Time and Serial Number can also be embedded in the hidden string. The hidden string can be tracked by means of the information analysis tool to detect by whom, when and with which machine the document was copied. With the function to detect embedded information, scan of information embedded documents and Multiple Embedded Information Action can be effectively prevented.

TL Codes (Trace&Lock) TL code is a kind of two-dimensional barcodes. Dots are printed on the output paper to embed digital information by dot displacement.

Forced Document Scan LockWhen Forced Document Scan Lock mode is set to ON, Document Scan Lock function is activated to manage Copy and Print jobs. Ensure to set "Use Document Scan Lock / Embedded Info." to ON when specifying Document Scan Lock information via Options or User mode.

Functions > Basic Function > Conditional Permission

Functions > Basic Function > Conditional Permission

    Limitations

Conditional permission is judged only on the first page for the Scan-requested document.

The following conditions trigger unconditional prohibition:

    - Conditional permission is added in the middle of the multiple-page document.

    - Conditions are changed in the latter pages.

Prohibit All is triggered when documents with different Document Scan Lock information embedded are scanned as a page (i.e. 2 in 1, etc.). In such a case, the password popup window is not shown even when "Password When Analyzing Embedded Info" is set to "Set".

When Document Scan Lock information is embedded, documents should not be enlarged or reduced. Document Scan Lock information cannot be extracted from enlarged / reduced documents using a machine without Document Scan Lock function. This disables Scan Guard function and tracking information analysis.

Document Scan Lock information is deteriorated on transmitted documents (by SEND). Information cannot be analyzed on such documents.

Analysis is also impossible when Document Scan Lock information is embedded in the background but shown through the other side of paper. If failed, retry the analysis in a higher resolution, i.e. 600dpi*600dpi. This may allow analyzing the data successfully.

Document Scan Lock information may not be analyzed on paper lager than A3.

Sizes between A5 and A3 are recommended for information analysis.

User (Department ID) Authentication FunctionUser (Department ID) authentication is the function to add the user name or Department ID with permission in the watermark data embedded in the document. Copy is allowed only when the login name / Department ID entered at device login is matched to the embedded information. This function is provided in Options for Copy / Box printing. If the user skipped device login, the requested job is cancelled for the document. The print job is started only when login user / Department ID is matched to the embedded information. If not matched, the message, "This document is prohibited from copying", is shown on Local UI and the job is automatically cancelled. In such cases the cancel is logged in the job history.

Functions > Basic Function > Deterioration of Document Scan Lock Information

Functions > Basic Function > Deterioration of Document Scan Lock Information

Limitations relevant to Multiple TL CodesTL codes can be found on the whole output page where Document Scan Lock information is embedded. When 4 sheets of A5 paper with "Allow All" specified are printed on a sheet of A3 paper, the print job is permitted for the whole document specified as "Allow All". When 5 or more sheets of A5 paper with "Allow All" specified are printed on a sheet of A3, the document is regarded as "Prohibit All" due to redundant embedded information on the overlapped parts. The print job is cancelled in such a case.

    OK NG

Deterioration of Document Scan Lock InformationDocument Scan Lock information is unable to be read under either of the following conditions.1. The barcode pattern is deteriorated on the output document due to format conversion (into PDF or TIFF). Assumed cause: Sent the document with Document Scan Lock information embedded by SEND. Through format conversion into PDF or TIFF, dots of the barcode information are deteriorated due to changes in resolution or compression.

    2. Multiple Document Scan Lock information is embedded.Assumed cause:Received the document with Document Scan Lock information embedded on the other device

    F-2-12F-2-12

but additional Document Scan Lock information was embedded at printing on the document received device. This will result in failure in reading Document Scan Lock information. The similar symptom may occur in Advanced Box.

    Reference matter in market service

Document Scan Lock TerminationTo terminate the use of Document Scan Lock, transfer the license option nullification.

Setting information Once Document Scan Lock license option is nullified, the settings for Document Scan Lock are disabled. Activate the license option to restore the settings.

Error Codes related to Image Data Analyzer Board Even after Document Scan Lock license termination, Document Scan Lock information embedded in documents stored in BOX remain unchanged. The embedded settings are valid on the printed BOX documents.

Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device data recovery method

Here the keys required to invalidate the license for transfer to a different device will be described. The following is not an explanation of how to validate such license. 'Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device' can be executed in the Service Mode in order to make accessories validated by the license information available to another host machine. License history data is required when invalidating the license for transfer to a different device. License history data is stored threefold in 3 different locations - HDD, Counter PCB, and SRAM on the Main Controller. Once the HDD and / or Main Controller are replaced with new ones, it may not be possible to invalidate the license for transfer to a different device for options validated by the license information.

License key history data License history data is used in order that the transferred license key cannot be used in the same iR host machine again.-License history data has a total of the number of the iR accessory license key and the MEAP applications and only 30 of the total are doubly stored in HDD and the counter board.-Only 30 of the total are doubly stored. The rest is stored in HDD only.

When HDD is broken If turning on the power of the iR host machine after the replacement of HDD, max. 30 items of license key/transferred license key history data are automatically recovered in HDD from the license key history data on the counter board. Lost license key history, which has been stored only in HDD, becomes as follows:-The transfer license key cannot be issued to unrecoverable license key history.-The transfer license key for unrecoverable license key history of the license key that the transfer license key has been issued is not displayed in service mode.

When Counter board is broken If turning on the power after the replacement of the counter board due to the breakage, following operations are performed.-Automatically recovered from the SRAM on the main controller board.-If it is impossible that the history is automatically recovered from SRAM to the counter board, the license key/transfer license key history data is automatically recovered to the counter board from the license key history data on HDD.

When HDD and Counter board are broken Recover the data from SRAM to the counter board. Then, recover the data from the counter board to HDD.When the data cannot be recovered from SRAM to the counter board, all history data of license key/transfer license key will be lost. The accessories continue to be available even in such cases, although 'Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device' cannot be executed.

Invalidating the License for Transfer to a Different Device (Level 2)

Service Mode Item Used to Invalidate a License for Transfer to a Different Device (Level 2)

Possible Situation A license may be used on a different device through transfer, as when replacing the device at the end of a lease agreement. To do so, the user must first invalidate the existing license by performing a set of steps referred to as "invalidation of a license" using service mode. At times, both source and target of transfer may be the same device, and a license therefore may also be invalidated only temporarily. It is important to note that the user must contact the Sales Company to make a license good regardless of whether it has been invalidated intentionally or inadvertently.

Invalidation Procedure Invalidation consists in invalidating the license in service mode and generating an invalidation certificate that proves the completion of invalidation. Invalidation may take place for individual optional functions, and a specific function becomes no longer available as soon as an invalidation certificate is issued. The user contacts the Sales Company and provides the following: the invalidation certificate, the device serial number of the source of transfer, the device serial number of the target of transfer, reason of transfer. In response, the Sales Company may issue a license key for new installation on a different device. The user must take note of the new license key in writing, and keep it as a record after registering it to the target device.

Installation Procedure 1. Start service mode, and activate Level 2 so that the following is true:COPIER>OPTION>LCNS-TRThe following screen appears, showing the current status of various options:

Screen Design: SET-xxxx: indicates the license status. If installed, the option is identified as '1' under A.
