Hello once again my fellow Koalas!

This month has been full of AP testing, final projects, and more! I genuinely hope the last couple weeks of school have been great for all of you, especially the seniors out there. Thank you to all who have sent in articles and visuals for this month! Also, a big thank you to those who continually participate in the monthly surveys. This newsletter could not be filled without YOU.

I still encourage many of you to continually take part in the process of this newsletter. Don’t be afraid to send anything to me! You can take this opportunity to practice your writing skills or even just to express your dying love for Key Club. The more articles, the merrier!

To all who are reading: if you’ve got a special farewell message you would like to dedicate to any Senior or retired officer, send it in to me through email or Facebook message by SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH at 6 PM. Feel free to also send me any pictures you would like added to your “grad ad”! Your messages will be featured in a special farewell edition.

Hello Division 25 East Koalas! This is Andrew Chang, your Lieutenant Governor of the 2013-2014 term. Even though serving as your Lieutenant Governor for only less than two months, I have seen so much growth from our division and cannot be more proud of the work our Key Club members put in to bring positive changes to our home, school, and community.

Home: “Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind.” As members of this Key Club ohana, Division 25 East is always mindful of our core value of inclusiveness. Effective communications and collaborative efforts are KEY to ensure inclusiveness. Over the past month, with the use of modern electronic communication devices, officers within Division 25

East have successfully communicated with one another as evidenced by the 100% completion rate for paperwork in the month of April. Keep up the good work, Division 25 East Key Club officers! Amongst the members, I have seen

the development of leadership skills for many members. During service projects this past month, I observed the willingness to collaborate with others, a crucial component of effective leadership, from many of our members. In the future, as the Lieutenant Governor, I hope to implement more service projects so all members within our division may successful develop more leadership skills.

School: Originally consisting of only six schools, Division 25 East will now be officially a division of seven schools. Northridge Academy Key Club has joined the Division 25 East family as its newest member since it had been officially chartered on April 18th, 2013. With influence now reaching so many schools, Division 25 East Key Club will undoubtedly cast a greater impact by educating more high school students the joy of service and fostering students’ care for their community.

Community: As servant leaders transforming communities worldwide, Division 25 East Key Club members have continued to serve our global community. Over the past, many clubs within the division have raised funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program. In addition, many clubs have initiated service projects in alignment with Key Club’s Major Emphasis Project. Through these fundraisers and service projects, our members gained a more thorough understanding of our Major Emphasis “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.”

As the Lieutenant Governor, I want to encourage all of you to continue the effort you put in to improve your community. Your passion for service and dedication towards this organization will be rewarded with GOLDEN experiences and BEEutiful memories.

Spring was just around the corner, which means a lot of the family festivals were closely approaching. A “ fun

day “ that is held annually at Beckford Elementary School at which families wait for the entire year. Bright and early in the morning, many members of GHCHS Key Club were ready to face a thrilling afternoon of service and smiles, while also switching shifts and running the booths. Many families were pleased to see that although we were just teens, we were still able to come out and enjoy in the festivity through our service. Plenty of games such as Plinko, Golf, Under the Sea, and more allowed not only the members to enjoy their time but also be enlightened by the numerous glorifying faces of all the children who attended. This jam packed day was not only about having fun but also showing the members that we are helping the community one step at a time.

07 Club News

The Los Angeles Marathon is an inspiring event that is held annually. This year, Kennedy Key Clubbers volunteered by

cheering on runners and passing out water at the Hollywood and Highland 11th mile mark. Our dedicated Key Clubbers were willing to wake up at 4:00 AM to arrive and help set up by stacking cups of water and Gatorade. Around 7:30 AM, our first out of many participants appeared. Though most of the volunteers were preparing for the horde of runners to appear, Kennedy Key Club gladly rooted and supported the first few runners of the day with audacity and spirit. As the elite runners passed, everyone cheered in awe at the speed they had. And a couple of minutes later, the horde arrived. All of us were prepared with two or three cups at hand, encouraging runners to keep going. We were thanked with many smiles and words of appreciation. Overall, it was a very fun and successful event.

WorldFest is a solar-powered celebration of music, the environment, animals and humanity.

The WorldFest 2013 Earth Day Festival will be held at the beautiful outdoor setting of Woodley Park in Lake Balboa, CA. We welcome our attendees to a magnificent day filled with entertainment, education and enlightenment. During this past month, seniors were honored with a special “Graduation” themed DCM. Full of superlatives, speeches, and special guests, this DCM has surely given the seniors the last hurrah they all deserved. But it didn’t stop there! All who attended were given the opportunity to pie their BEE-utiful seniors for $1 a pie and all proceeds were given to PTP.

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. And in doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families

Study tips that can help you ace your final examinations!1. Understand your goals.

2. Prioritize.

3. Know how you study best.

4. Take snack breaks.

5. Get a good night’s sleep.

6. Relax!

Start your studying by knowing what you want! By figuring where you stand in your studies, you will know how much you need to review.

Know which topics you need to review the most and make those your top priority. Once you know that certain topic, move onto the next and so on.

Study alone or study in groups? Have an idea which keeps you most efficiently studying. Just remember that your study group SHOULD NOT be getting distracted. You are all together to do one thing: STUDY!

Studying can tire your mental capabilities. Remember to take short little snack breaks to give yourself a burst of energy. Stray away from caffinated drinks and fatty foods like potato chips. Nuts, cookies, and fruits can give the brain the boost it needs!

You don’t need to be tired on test day; it’ll only make the experience of taking a long test much worse.

Have faith in what you have reviewed. Think positively on test day. Remind yourself that everything you studied/reviewed is just another point to an A!

Manpreet Singhfrom Granada Hills Charter High School

Manpreet Singh has shown much dedication as a member to our club. She has gone to the majority of the events provided by Granada

this past month and has stayed from the beginning of the event until the last hour for each of them. Whenever any member or an

officer needs an extra hand, she is always eager to help out. Manpreet is enthusiastic about the club and serving her community, which becomes apparent in her increased

attendance to our events. She tries to the best of her ability to attend meetings and events. The kindness and compassion she shows to other fellow members and officers at each

event certainly exemplifies the Key Club values. For these reasons, Manpreet certainly qualifies

as this month’s Koala of the Month.

19 Club of the Month

Club of the Month

Cleveland High SchoolOver the past month, Cleveland Key Club has shown the koalafications necessary to be nominated as the

Club of the Month. Its members have consistently participated at division wide events and DCMs and

always appeared the most spirited and willing to serve. In addition, with an average of 14 service hours

performed by each member, Cleveland Key Club has an incredible record for total service hours when it has only been two months since the initiation of the Key Club term. Not only has it shown its koalafications in service projects, Cleveland Key Club has also been working hard to raise funds and awareness for District Projects, such as the PTP and the Eliminate Project. Its officers have shown continuous communications not only on the club level, but also on the division level. As the Lieutenant Governor, I never have to worry

about the performance of Cleveland Key Club and am constantly surprised by the tremendous growth the club has continued to show. Therefore, for the month

of May, Cleveland Key Club undoubtedly deserves the title as the Club of the Month.

I take Filipino Martial Arts, so I know how to kick butt.

Because I made Key Club [at my school]? I don’t know. Well, my cousin was talking about it while I was still in middle school and he was talking about how awesome and great it was so I knew I wanted to join Key Club from that moment.

Because the people are so nice; it really does feel like a family. I honestly love my Key Club Ohana. They’re just so awesome and asdfghjkl; I can’t even explain...serving the community is really great too. Helping out and getting the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you made a difference is unforgettable.

I can solve a Rubik’s cube, a 3x3 and a 2x2.
