District 5580 District Grant # 15.1.12 Project completion date Final or Interim Report for District Grants (revised Nov 2014) To be completed by a D5580 Rotarian Rotary Club: Project Title: Interim Report XX Final Report Project Description 1. Briefly describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place, and who were the beneficiaries? Rotary purchased weekend (2 day) food packages for 66 elementary children in East Grand Forks public schools each week for the entire school year. Teachers placed these into the backpacks of children the school identified as at risk for not eating on weekends each Friday afternoon. Because they had weekend food, children came to school on Mondays ready to learn. 2. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 9 3. What did they do? Please give at least two examples. The Rotarians solicited donations to help pay for food from local churches, individuals, and community groups. The grant helped bridge the gap while these solicitations were being made. One man leveraged his influence with the local hospital to obtain a $1,000 grant. Another contacted veterans’ organizations. A third arranged for his business to donate their “casual Friday” money for two months. 4. How many non-Rotarians benefited from this project? 66 children 5. What are the expected long-term community impacts of the project? Low income children will perform better in school. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? The school district (East Grand Forks) identified the children in grades K-5 to receive food and distributed the food packages weekly. The North Country Food Bank (Crookston) supplied the food at very low cost ($4 per weekend for 6 meals) Financial Report (Sponsoring Club & District 5580 must retain receipts of all expenditures for 5 years) 7.
