While Bro. Bruce continues his recovery, we have dug up an “oldie but goodie” from June of 2011. We hope you enjoy Bro. Bruce’s words of wisdom on “mile markers”. Please continue to lift him and Mrs. Gini up in your prayers. Mile Markers We all know what a “mile marker” is, don’t we? It’s the little green sign along the side of a highway showing your actual location on that particular road. Mile markers run from south to north on I65 and generally correspond with exit numbers along the way. For example, the Cobbs Ford Road exit is Exit # 179. It’s also 179 miles from where I65 begins down in Mobile. Mile markers serve several functions: (1) they reveal progress toward a destination; (2) they also assist in identifying the location of a traveler in the event of an emergency. With the available technology of a Global Positioning System (GPS) in many autos today, mile markers have become almost obsolete. For example, a GPS can tell you the distance (in miles) to your specified destination and estimate how many minutes until your arrival... based upon the speed you are driving! Wouldn’t it be great if we had “mile markers” for measuring spiritual growth and maturity between salvation (as our starting point) and when we go to Heaven? I’ve always advocated, but to no avail, this be considered by the writers of our Sunday School curriculum so we could measurably track a person’s growth toward spiritual maturity. As parents we track a child’s progress toward certain developmental tasks. We measure a child intellectually by certain cognitive markers. Why then can’t we track a person’s growth spiritually from spiritual rebirth to the point in which a person goes to be with the Lord? Its possible the answer lies somewhere between not wanting to judge people on their growth, or lack thereof, from point A to B to C. Or its possible that people don’t want to be held accountable for their growth, or lack thereof? After all, as the Apostle Paul questions, what or who does it hurt if I’ve been a Believer for 25+ years and still eating baby food? For me personally, I’m often embarrassed at how some people grow far more rapidly than I! Must be the taste and texture of baby food suits me just fine! ....... I love you! It is such a high honor to be your pastor. In Christ, Bro. Mile Markers

We will need grillers, hot dog wrappers, people to pass out waters, popcorn and hot dogs, pop popcorn, bag popcorn, walk around talking to gamers and sharing the gospel, people hanging out at the charging station, etc. Even if you don’t know anything about the game, we need you!

August is an exciting month for GCM, as we start back to school! A huge Thank You to the church for cleaning the floors and carpets/rugs to make our rooms

look great. Gary painted the office, Amy organized supplies and cleaned the attic, and the teachers are working on their rooms, so everyone is getting ready for August 15, our first day. Although we still have some openings at this time, we do think they will fill in as we approach opening, so spread the word to come on in and register! If you would like to be on our paid substitute list for occasional needs, contact Amy. No previous training needed-just a desire to work with preschoolers. Please pray for GCM, our teachers, our students, and our families. Those first few days can be a little rough for everyone! Amy Alexander Director

GBC SENIOR ADULTS ACTS 1:8 CHURCH GLYNWOOD CHILDCARE MINISTRY

The word “Missions” usually, brings to mind going out of the country to evangelize to a lost society. Thankfully, Glynwood does more than that! We do work not only out of the country,

but, right out our own backdoor!

Since January, we have sent ambassadors to: Guatemala, Greenville SC, Suches GA, worked in our VBS mission emphasis, tended to needs with our food closet and disaster relief. These were individual accomplishments with goals threaded with the same purpose: ministering to the spiritual needs of others over our own desires.

Many skill sets are needed and used to fulfill these missions. The skill sets are better known as gifts that God has given us to use – not put under a barrel – but used for His perfect work. Not all are hands or feet but together we make one Body, One in Him.

There is more to just teaching how to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ: it is about putting our words and faith into action. To be the hands and feet of Jesus and ooze His love wherever we are. In the end, WE are the ones who are blessed.

Thank You Glynwood - The GBC Missions Committee

We are excited about Children’s Church for the 2016-17 Church Year!! Debbie Wiggins will be taking the reigns and she has some great ideas!! We will have some changes taking place that we think are going to be wonderful. One of our changes is that beginning, Sunday, August 14th, our Kindergarteners will officially be a part of Children’s Church. This past year we took the first step in this process by moving them off of the preschool hallway into the children’s hallway. This year, all Kindergarteners will leave from Sunday School and enter “big church” with their parents for the Worship portion of the service. Then on the Offertory Song, they will exit with the 1st and 2nd Graders. We are very excited about this change and we think the children will be excited and grow spiritually as well. Be in prayer for Debbie and her wonderful team as they prepare.

Association Keenager’s MeetingWednesday, August 10th @ 10:30 AM

Glynwood will be the host church! The GBC Senior Adults will not have their regular monthly meeting so everyone can come to support this event. The Association will provide the meat. You bring a side dish or dessert to share. Everyone 55 and older is invited!
