Update on our Pastor Bro. Bruce continues to recover at home with home health care and physical therapy. He had a good check up with the surgeon at St. Vincent’s last week. His foot is healing. Many have asked about progress on the Pastor Search Committee (PSC) policy and Bylaws amendment. At our July 24 business meeting the Church Leadership Council (CLC), introduced a Bylaws amendment to allow the election of a PSC when a pastor announces his retirement months in advance. The proposal is that “they will be able to organize, train, and prepare for the task, but will take no action to secure a new pastor until such time as the position is vacant.” This amendment was discussed at length and then approved to advance to the next business meeting for a second presentation and vote as required by our Bylaws. The CLC also presented a draft policy for the election of a PSC. This proposal was discussed, but NO vote was taken. We apologize for any confusion caused by the sample nomination forms that were included in the mail out. Since then, the CLC Bylaws work group has considered the discussion from the business meeting plus suggestions made by members and is working on a revision to the policy draft. Some ideas being considered are increasing the number of members on the PSC from 5 to 7 and dropping the alternate position; electing several members from leadership groups like the deacons or CLC and some from the membership at large. The CLC work group of Mike Whaley, Joel Junker, Barbara Easterling, and Greg Platt will present a revised proposal to the CLC on September 11 and to the deacons on September 14. Then a revised recommendation will be presented to the church at the September 25 business meeting. Copies of this recommendation will be available in advance for your review. We need to continually PRAY for our GOD to give us His wisdom for this important part of the process. These are important decisions before us. We urge every church leader to be involved in the meetings listed above and all church members to attend the September 25 business meeting. Rev. Mike Denning, Associate Pastor/Minister of Music Rev. How can Glynwood help with Disaster Relief in Louisiana?

1. Check in at www.sbdr.org for the latest information or “Like” the Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief Facebook

page and you will get the latest up-to-date information.

2. The state board has established a fund for those wishing to donate. All proceeds will be forwarded to the disaster area for immediate use and this remains our BEST means of support at the moment. There are two ways to donate: First you can make your check out to Glynwood Baptist Church and we will send one final amount OR you can go to http://sbdr.org/louisianafloodrelief/ and donate directly.

The clock on the back wall reads 2:04 as I sit alone in the quietness of our sanctuary, our place of peace where we worship God. It’s a Tuesday afternoon. I spent this

morning in the choir room around the familiar laughter of friends and people I have come to know as family. We talked about calendars and business along with a healthy dose of just catching up. Instead of lunch today, I managed to have a meeting at Starbucks to start planning the new year. I’m

not sure life slows down too much, no matter where you are. I returned to the States Friday night around 11 and have yet to stop running. To me this moment of stillness in our Worship Center is precious. It’s a good idea every now and then to slow down in the quiet stillness and reflect on where God has taken us. I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to take some time to study and be a missionary this summer in Guatemala. While there I was able to participate in the founding of two churches, and be a part of studies and services in three others. I was able to walk (and somewhat talk) with people who knew God and people who only knew sin. It was a time of major growth for me, in my Spanish skills, and in my life. Sí. Yo hablo español. Lo suficiente como para meter en problemas y encontrar la salida de la misma. With all of the good that came from it I must say, It is good to be home. I’m excited about what this new year will bring with GBC and the ministries we have here. The youth calendar will be sent out to parents in the next couple of weeks along with Bible Studies starting back up for Boys, Girls and College kids. This is going to be a great year. Keep an eye out on Facebook, the board outside my office, and thru text for more up to date info for what we are doing and Where God Is Taking Us. Look forward to walking with ya,Edgar

The summer is over and it is time to get back to business... In September, we will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13th at 11:30 AM, bring a lunch dish

to share. In this meeting, we will be discussing some options for our next 6 months! It is very important that as many who can, be here, so we can have a good discussion and see what is pulling at your hearts. Be in prayer about where you think the Lord might be leading!

Church Leaders BOLO!

Church leaders, “Be On the Look Out” later this week for a letter from the Stewardship Committee for your 2017 budget request . If you serve as an organizational director, committee chair, ministry team director, or other leader, please start praying and thinking of your

ministry plans for the 2017 church year and begin working up an itemized budget request to support that ministry. If your plans include events on specific dates, please include those dates for coordination on the church calendar.

Chairman Tony Moninski is leading the Stewardship Committee to begin building the 2017 church budget. They are sending out budget request forms for each area of ministry this week. The deadline for returning these completed forms to the finance office is Wed., Sept. 14.

PRAY for Tony and the other members of this committee: Randy Clay, Candra McClanahan, Beth Jones, Doug DeMaio, and Amy Wade, as they seek our God’s guidance and wisdom in allocating funds for the ministries GOD is leading us into for the coming year.

The committee plans to meet starting Sunday, Sept. 25, to begin building the budget. They will present their budget recommendation to the Church Leadership Council and Deacons on Sunday Nov. 6 and to the church at the Sunday Nov. 13 business meeting. Both of these meetings are important in the life and ministry of GBC. Please make it a priority to be present.

GCM has started back in full force! In August all the classes worked on establishing routines, and in chapel we started where it all began-at creation. September includes

Johnny Appleseed Day and fall topics, and chapel will study Noah and the life of Moses. A big thank you to church members for your financial aid, your prayers, and your encouraging words. Thank you also to other users of the rooms-the rooms always look great when we arrive, and we work hard to make them look great before we leave. If you would like to sub for us, we always need names to call. Let Amy know. We have a few spots left in 4 year olds, and just a few overall in classes younger than that, so if you know of anyone wanting quality childcare, send them our way. In October we will be putting on a pumpkin patch/fall party for our 2’s and younger, who can’t go off campus for a pumpkin patch. If you know of someone who has a pony that they could bring for rides, let Amy know. It would be a special treat for the children! Amy Alexander, GCM Director

Mission “field”… Where is it? Who is it? I am afraid to try! You may have many morequestions about the field of missions. But as Christians;

it is our job. Our heavenly Father wants us to do our part to be His hands and feet. The mission “field” is wherever YOU are! People need love, prayer, hope and that shouldn’t be a hard thing to do! To step beyond your comfort zone for God; after all He stepped out of His comfort zone for us and sent His Son to cover our sins through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Allow God to use you today- you will receive a blessing.

The Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering (formerly the Kathleen Mallory Offering) was launched in January 2016. The offering stays right here in Alabama along with the giving to the Cooperative Program (GBC gives 12% of our income to the Cooperative Program) and helps support these Ministries: Alabama WMU, Disaster Relief, Church Planting, Church Revitalization, Global Partnership Missions.

This will be a great time where the men of GBC can come together, have breakfast and watch video excerpts of the Men’s GridIron Conference. You’ll hear the exact words brought by Tony Evans, Phil Waldrep & Rick Burgess at the conference. Men, if you need a “fill-up”, join us Saturday,

September 17th at 8:00 AM!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)To every thing there is a season, and a

time to every purpose under the heaven:

Church Family, We are in a “Season and Time” as a church! Not one that has caught God off guard at all, even though we may be tempted to think so. I would rather think He has us right where we need to be, depending on

Him. In seasons and times when things appear rough, the question should never be WHY, but WHAT!? What does He have in store for us? What is He trying to teach us? What does the future hold for us as a church family? It is all about Faith and Trust! Monday, September 19 - Friday, September 23 we as a Staff are calling the church into a time of prayer, “A Season And Time”. You will be receiving a daily prayer guide through the mail as well as a daily e-mail guiding this time of prayer. We strongly encourage you to take your guide and join us, the Staff, as we focus each day on the main prayer topics in the life of our church at this time. At the end of the week, we are asking you to make it a point to be here Sunday Night, September 25th @ 6:00 PM for our church business meeting. We will begin that business meeting with prayer and music and allow the Lord to guide us into His business for our church. I can’t wait to see how He will work!

Celebration Choir has started back rehearsing for the fall. Also, Christmas is coming quickly so if you would like to be a part of the Christmas season now is the time to join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM.

Winds of Praise rehearse at 6:00 PM on Wednesday nights and we are in need of several more instruments. If you played in high school but it has been years since you have picked up your horn, come see me because the Lord can and will still use you.

Donna and I want to thank you for all of your love during this time we have been walking through. Your calls, cards, texts, meals, prayer and encouragement have been overwhelming! We love you all!

“3G” Give-God-Glory Mike
