beverage related services, or any other businesses, please see our Regional

The Guide To Good Living was created to inform local residents,

newcomers or those planning to relocate to south east Saskatchewan about

the high quality of life and recreation opportunities available here. While

this Guide is not targeted at visitors, it will certainly prove useful to them as

well. It is our hope that everyone will “discover what’s close to home!”

for traditional cross-country skiing and the other side is screened to accommodate those who like to skate ski. Trails include:

· Beaver Lake Trail: This 4.5 km trail circles Beaver Lake. There are no shelter or washroom areas on this trail.

· Fish Creek Campground: This trail is lit for night skiing. Approximately 3km of Fish Creek Campground is groomed with double classic ski trails and skate skiing.

· Little Kenosee Trail System: Totalling approximately 50 km is broken-up into smaller trails. There are several shelters, equipped with wood and wood stoves, along these trails (no overnight camping in these shelters). Washrooms are available at the entrance to the trail system. Pick up a trail map at the trailhead park office or one of the local businesses.

· Whitetail Trail: This 3 km cross-country trail winds along the northern edge of Little Kenosee Lake.

Geocaching in Southeast Saskatchewan

Geocaching, a world-wide game of high-tech treasure hunting, is growing in popularity. The basic idea of the game is to locate hidden containers, caches or sites of historical or cultural significance outdoors using GPS technology. A geocacher places or creates a cache anywhere in the world, pinpoints it’s locating using GPS and then shares the cache’s existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache.

A cache sometimes contains a logbook. This logbook contains information from the owner of the cache, notes from visitors and other valuable and entertaining information. Larger caches may also contain a few items of small value, like key chains or pins. A cache finder can keep an item found in the cache, but must replace it with something of equal or greater value for the next person to enjoy. Quite often, a cache will contain a trackable item, usually referred to as a Travel Bug or Geocoin. Geocachers do not keep these items, but move them from cache to cache, so they may eventually travel around the world. The greatest reward in discovering a geocache is the journey itself!

With over one million caches and 4 to 5 million geocachers worldwide, this activity is enjoyed by people from all age groups. Combine geocaching with camping, hiking, biking, boating or other recreational activities results and have an even more enjoyable experience. You can spend an hour or two or several days on your excursions. It’s up to you.

In the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, caches are hidden in abundance. Within a 100 mile radius of the centre of the region, there are over 1,000 caches to find! There are caches located in Estevan, Weyburn, and the smaller communities throughout the region. There are caches hidden in Moose Mountain Provincial Park, several among the rock formations at Roche Percee, and many located near historic sites in the area.

Radville & Area

· Fishing includes Northern Pike, Perch and Walleye. · Both summer and winter fishing. · Long Creek runs from the North end of Radville down the east side.

Weyburn & Area

· A well-sanded beach with a play area and volleyball net. No lifeguard on duty. · Lake has Walleye, Perch and Jackfish. Lake is periodically stocked. · There is a fish cleaning area. · Watercraft such as power boats, Seadoos and jetskis are permitted through the park gates. · Two boat launches and a floating dock. · Boat launch use is $5.00 per day of $20.00 for the season. · Canoes and kayaks can be rented for $5.00 per hour.
