DescriptionThe Diploma in Creative Industries (previous title:University Diploma in Creative Industries), which hasintakes for international students in February, Juneand October, is primarily a pathway for entry tobachelor degrees within Creative Industries, with theBachelor of Creative Industries KK33 being the mostprevalent course progression pathway. Students gaincoherent and integrated theoretical, technical andpractical knowledge with emphasis on developingtechnical, analytical, decision-making, problemsolving, teamwork and communication skills in well-defined, structured environments and with real worldapplication.

In this program, students study six faculty units aswell as two units of Communication which have beendesigned to support their other units. Small lecturesand tutorials, additional workshops and the support ofLanguage and Welfare Advisers provide an excellentlearning environment.

Course CompletionStudents must obtain at least a grade of 4 (Pass) in allunits.

ProgressionStudents who successful complete the Diploma ofCreative Industries and achieve a GPA of 4.0 willreceive one year's advanced standing and beguaranteed a place in one of the availablebachelor programs from the Creative IndustriesFaculty.

QUT International CollegeInternational students may upgrade to the QUTBachelor of Information Technology through QUTInternational College at our Kelvin Grove campus.

The University Diploma in Information Technology isequivalent to two semesters of the Bachelor ofInformation Technology degree with a total of 96credit points (48 standard credit points for a full-timesemester).

In the University Diploma program, students study sixdegree core units as well as two English languageunits that have been designed to support the othercore units.

Progression to the Bachelorof Information TechnologyStudents who successfully complete these eight unitswith a grade point average of 4 (on a 7-point scale)and obtain a grade of at least 4 in ProfessionalCommunication 2 are given two semesters full-timeadvanced standing towards their degree and areguaranteed a place in the Bachelor of InformationTechnology.

DescriptionThe University Certificate in Tertiary Preparation is aone-semester program that enables students toreceive a University certificate on successfulcompletion. It is designed for students who may havealready met the academic entry requirements for aQUT undergraduate or postgraduate degree, but whomay not have met the English language and/orprerequisite requirements.*

This program provides two alternative streams:

Stream A is designed for students who have not metEnglish and/or prerequisite requirements for theirchosen undergraduate or postgraduate course. Moststudents may undertake one degree unit (for credit)whilst enrolled in the University Certificate in TertiaryPreparation program.

Stream B is for students who have met Englishrequirements but not prerequisite requirement for theirdegree, or who may wish to improve the standard oftheir academic English. These students may take oneor two degree units (for credit) whilst enrolled in theUniversity Certificate in Tertiary Preparation Program.

Both streams include intensive preparation foracademic language, lateral thinking, research andpresentation skills required for successful tertiarystudy. Small classes and dedicated staff ensure anexcellent learning environment. Additional support isprovided by Language and Welfare Advisers.

Alternatively, there may be some students who havealready met both the academic and Englishrequirements for a QUT degree entry, but who wouldprefer to undertake the University Certificate inTertiary Preparation in order to prepare for academicstudy in a different tertiary environment.

*Students who require a Student Visa should checkthe English language requirements for a student visafrom their country of origin.

Course CompletionStudents must obtain at least a grade of 4 (Pass)in allunits.

ProgressionIn order to progress to an award course, studentsmust:

i) fulfil the University Certificate in Tertiary Preparationcourse requirementsii) gain a minimum grade of 4 (Pass) inCommunication 2 or an IELTS 6.5 or equivalent,iii) meet any other conditions detailed in the 'letter ofoffer' from Student Business Services.

DescriptionThe aim of the EAP Advanced course is to assistinternational students to upgrade their Englishproficiency level for admission to university programswith higher English language level requirements. Thecourse is designed to prepare students forindependent study and to familiarise them with anAustralian academic setting in terms of studytechniques and student/lecturer relations andexpectations.

QC15 - IELTS AdvancedIELTS Advanced is designed to prepare candidateswho have already achieved IELTS 6.5 (with no sub-score less than 6.0) or acceptable equivalent, for theIELTS Test, Academic Module. It is offered to thoseseeking to achieve a score of IELTS 7.0 or higher.This is a test preparation course and students musttake an official IELTS test and achieve the requiredscore.

The course will also familiarise students with anAustralian academic setting in terms of studytechniques and student/lecturer relations andexpectations.

On completion of the IELTS Advanced program,students will take an IELTS test. For entry intoprograms that require a score of IELTS 7.0 or above,students must achieve this score in an official IELTStest to meet the requirements.

DescriptionEAP Plus has been specifically developed forstudents who wish to commence their entry into anEnglish for Academic Purposes course earlier.Successful applicants can enter the course at pre-intermediate level and immediately begin developingtheir English language and study skills in an academiccontext.

EAP Plus enables students to begin developing theirEnglish language and study skills in an academiccontext from a pre-intermediate level. The courseaims to prepare students to attain the level ofproficiency required for gaining entrance to, andsucceeding in QUT undergraduate and postgraduateaward programs. EAP Plus courses include:• Academic reading and note-making• Academic writing• Listening and note-taking from lectures• Speaking in academic settings• Seminars and presentations• Academic study skills• Computing and Internet skills• Library research

During the first 12 weeks of the EAP Plus course,students will develop their paragraph writing, reading,listening and note-taking skills through theme-basedtopics at an introductory academic level, along withspeaking and oral presentation skills in a highly-supported environment. Weekly grammar,paraphrasing and vocabulary development supportsthe reading, writing and note-taking components.Reading skills are also enhanced via extendedreading practice and specific reading skills lessons.

The second half of the course will further developindependent study skills enabling students to operateeffectively in an Australian academic setting in termsof study techniques and student/lecturer relations andexpectations.

EAP Plus has its own internal assessment consistingof exams and assignments, and successful studentswill meet QUT’s English language requirements.

Course CompletionTo be eligible to receive EAP Plus Certificate at theend of the course, studfents must complete all courserequirements.

On successful completion of the course, students willreceive a Completion & Attendance Certificate and aStatement of Results.

ProgressionSuccessful completion of the EAP Plus courseprovides a pathway into QUT undergraduate andpostgraduate award programs for students who meetthe academic requirements for these programs.
