The third annual “Notable Celebration of the Arts,” the DGMC’s
benefit concert reception and silent auction, w ill be held at 7
p.m., Saturday, November 14 at the First Congregational Church,
1047 Curtiss St. (directly south of the Dow ners Grove Public
Li-
brary).
Proceeds from the event provide for the club’s mu-
sic aw ards to high school juniors and seniors.
The evening w ill begin w ith a preview of silent auc-tion items
including gift cards and tickets to Acap-pellago and Muriel
Anderson concerts, Chicago gangster and architecture tours, and
local restau-rants and shops. A concert featuring performances by
many talented musicians follows at 7:30 p.m. The evening w inds up
with a dessert reception catered by J. Fleming’s Absolutely
Delicious and the silent
auction.
Tickets are available through November 10 for the early bird
price of $30 w hen purchased online at
www.downersgrovemusicclub.org. Tickets also w ill be available
after that date online and at the door for $35, w ith full-time
college students admitted for $10 and children under 19 free if

Inaugural concert of Feurich grand piano draws crowd
Nearly 80 people attended the inaugural con-cert of the new Dow
ners Grove Music Club-Dow ners Grove Public Library Music Ser ies
featuring the Feurich Concert I grand piano re-
cently donated to the library by the DGMC.
The October 6 concert, w hich featured musical performances by
Chris Garofalo, Dennis Smith, Thomas Zoells, Sarah Flanagan, Henry
Pleas and Alice Cummings, also drew five new mem-
bers to the DGMC.

ith A Notable Celebration of the Arts on November 14 and concerts
on December 1, February 2, March 1, April 5 (Rising Stars), April
24 (Piano Festival Honors Recital) and May 3. More information is

local high school juniors and seniors this spring. Our goal for
this event is to continue to encourage young musicians by expanding
our awards program to other Downers Grove area communities. Thanks

A New Beginning: The annual Christmas concert featuring the
premiere of tw o pieces written especially for Acappellago by
Matthew Orlovich and Dale Trumbore, plus the Chicago premiere of “A
Nyew Werk” by Irish composer Sean Doherty. Performances are 7:30
p.m., Saturday, December 5 at the Event Hall at Mayslake Peabody
Estate, 1717 W. 31 St., Oak Brook, and 4 p.m., Sunday, December 6
at the Congregational Church of Batavia, 21 S. Batavia Ave.,

tavia (across from the library).
Cantores Community Choir: This non-audition group is open to
anyone high school age and older who enjoys singing, wants to learn
more about music and wants to perform a wide range of musical
styles and genres. Under the direction of Belford Hernandez, this
choir performs a wide variety of four-part musical literature and

“A Notable Celebration of the Arts,” the DGMC benefit concert,
silent auction and reception to support stu-dent music awards: Our
big fundraising event of the year will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday,
November 14 at the First Congregational Church of Downers Grove,
1047 Curtiss St. Featured musicians are soprano Angela
Pre-sutti-Korbitz, pianist Chris Garofalo, cell is t Amelia Smerz,
pianist Elissa Metropoulos, guitarist Ron Korbitz, and violinist
Jennifer Leckie. Donation: $35 for adults and $10 for full-time
college students when purchased after November 10 ($5 discount for
adult tickets purchased in advance). Tickets can be purchased

Downers Grove Choral Society: Vis it www.dgcs.org . Advance
tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for

Wondrous Baroque: A concert featuring J.S. Bach’s “ Christ Lag
in Todesbunden” and Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” will be held at 4 p.m.,
Sunday, November 15 at First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple
Ave., Downers Grove, with a
pre-concert discussion beginning at 3:15 p.m.
Grant Street String Quartet: This quartet was formed in 2010 by
four professional musicians in the western sub-urban area of
Chicago. It is based in Downers Grove and is a member of DGMC. For

Muriel Anderson: Anderson is a national champion guitarist/harp
guitarist and daughter of DGMC members Andrea and
Ted Anderson.
24th Annual Hometown Concert: Anderson will perform in concert
at 8 p.m., Saturday, November 28 in the Downers Grove North High
School auditorium, 4436 N. Main St. Hosted by Steve & Johnnie
of WGN, the concert wil l fea-ture young Australian sensation
Daniel Champagne and a new audio-visual show. Tickets are available
in advance at An-derson’s Bookshop or www.murielanderson.com for
$22 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Ticket prices are
$25/
$17 at the door.

Concert 2: Viva Espana ,featuring works by Arriago, Chabrier and
de Falla and including Gypsies, flamenco dancers and wedding
festivities of early 20th-century Spain, will be performed at 8

3 p.m., Sunday, November 15.
Village Voices: This group was founded in 2006 by Director
Marilyn Wilgocki. It includes 32 singers. Their music includes
spirituals, gospel tunes, jazz, Broadway show songs, folk music and
other light-hearted choral music. Sarah Flanagan is their

A grand move
The Feurich Concert I grand piano takes up residence at the
library
The Feurich Concert I piano, donated by the DGMC thanks to a
generous bequest from the Estate of Mil-
dred and Donald Drew , was carefully moved into its new space at
the Dow ners Grove Public Library on
September 24. The piano, w hich replaces the upright donated by
the DGMC some 40 years ago, w as in
place in time for the October 6 inaugural concert of the Dow
ners Grove Music Club-Dow ners Grove Pub-
lic Library Music Series.
