The major award is valued at $15 000 and a $1000 People’s Choice Award is sponsored by Collins Realty. Tidal provides a contemporary platform for artists to reflect upon the myriad perspectives and challenges inherent within the interconnections of land and sea, and the movement of the sun and moon. This year judges Humphrey Clegg and Craig Judd have selected 28 artists for the finalist exhibition. The Gallery acknowledges the wonderful efforts of our Friends Committee and their ongoing support of tidal. WANT TO GET INVOLVED? We are asking business owners to get their thinking caps on to come up with some ideas for decorating their windows during this exhibition. A great theme for the after Christmas windows! More details available soon. Farewell Tracey :( For those who haven’t heard yet, Tracey is leaving us to pursue a very different career, in the Funeral business. Tracey has been a very familiar face around town since starting with DCP 7 years ago, then moving to Council in 2008 in a similar role, before taking up the position of Marketing & Tourism Coordinator. Although we do wish her well, her enthusiasm and ‘go get em’ attitude will be sadly missed at Council, as will her regular offerings of culinary delights she whips up in all her spare time. Good Luck Tracey and may none of us need to see you in a professional capacity anytime soon! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you all for letting me be involved and part of your business over the last nearly 8 years. I have really enjoyed working with you all on retail promotions, events for the city and just generally helping to put Devonport on the map for visitors and locals alike. I am amazed at the enthusiasim, ideas and ventures that I have seen and in some cases - had a hand in. The previous DCP Board and the City Focus Group that I have worked with are a dedicated bunch who continually and tirelessly work in the background to improve and strengthen Devonport for visitors, business and residents. The lovely people who are the Devonport and Cradle Country Marketing Group have gone from strength to strength and I certainly will watch with interest to see this continue to develop. I will still be floating around and am staying involved and part of some committees which are close to my heart. I look forward to enjoying some of this summers events with my family - as strange as that may seem! Good luck to you all - and here’s to a bumper summer season for retail and tourism :) Tracey Friends or Family coming to visit? No room for them? (Tourism Info Monitor)For those of you who haven't yet heard, Tourism Tasmania has a new tourism research tool named TIM (Tourism Info Monitor). This is really exciting news because it means that Tourism Tasmania will now be better equipped to monitor the state's tourism performance (based on monthly consumer surveys) and in turn gain a deeper understanding of potential interstate visitors to Tasmania. And best of all, we're committed to sharing the findings of TIM with all of you on a regular and ongoing basis. To prove just how excited we are about this, Tourism Tasmania is about to hold a series of informal workshops around the State to introduce our new friend TIM to industry. The aim of the workshops is to inform you all about what TIM is, what information TIM will be able to provide and how you as an organisation, business or individual might be able to use this intelligence in your own decision making and planning. The workshops being held in this area for October are:Tue 16 October 12-3pm DEVONPORT Quality Hotel Gateway Wed17 October 11am-2pm CRADLE MTN Cradle Mountain Lodge

New Event Management Guide The Event Management Guide has been designed to assist community organisations in the running of public events within the Devonport municipality.

The Guide is divided into two parts:Part One - Getting StartedThis section outlines the event processes to follow in planning and organising your event and Council’s application process requirements.Part Two - Event Management GuideThis section provides general information and guidelines on things you may need to con-sider in organising and managing a successful and safe event.

The guide includes an event notification form (pg. 5). This form should be submitted to Council as early as possible at which time we will forward you the Event Application pack. It contains all the relevant paperwork which you will need to submit to Council.

Devonport Aquatic Centre UpdateIt’s been a bit wet on site over the last few weeks but the progress hasn’t slowed down.

The dewatering pumps have been working overtime to keep the site operational through the heavy showers. The demolition and the bulk excavation works are now complete with the compacted fill also now in place.

At the moment we are about half way through drilling the pier holes which are also being filled with reinforce-ment steel and concrete as we go. The piers are 450mm diameter to a depth ranging from 9m to 15m deep. The drill rig drills one hole at a time and each hole is tested for bearing capacity before it is filled with concrete.

Sewer lines are starting to be installed ready for the main floor slab preparation.

The main pool hall structure consists of concrete columns and steel trusses. There are 16 concrete columns to be cast from concrete on site in the car park. When cured the columns will be lifted into position with a crane.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT?Piers will continue to be drilled and filled over the next few weeks. Site set out will continue with detailed excavation for the northern wing commencing soon. Precast columns will continue to be poured on site and precast panels and structural steel will be manufactured off site.

Additional information regarding this project is available on the Devonport City Council web page

Devonport and Cradle Country Integration of Tourism

operators to www.cradlecountry.com.au

The digital world is fast becoming the way travellers are planning their holidays and finding things to do once they arrive at their destination.

The next major undertaking of this group will be to work on integrating tourism operators onto the Cradle Country website and making the site mobile device friendly.

We will be speaking with our web designers soon to discuss this project and come up with templates to give operators a range of options, including the ability to link to their individual websites.

We envisage the website being the major call to action for visitors to this region and any print advertising will be directing people to this site for all things Devonport & Cradle Country, including your tourism business!

Over the coming months we will be incontact with more details so stay tuned!

If you have any questions about the Marketing Group or would like to know

more about our projects feel free to contact Tina at
