Business Intelligence, News & Insight

Funding reforms, NGO mergers, a shift towards localization. These were among the year’s major themes for global development news.

To keep you on the leading edge of each of these transformative topics, Devex analysts published more than 40 country-level donor strategy reports, and took an inside look at big events like the Save the Children-Merlin merger and the restructuring of AusAID and the World Bank.

Our weekly Development Insider has been redesigned to better connect development leaders with the intelligence, insights, and guidance they need to lead more effectively. You can expect to see more strategic analysis like this in 2014 and beyond.

We’re continuing to grow our projects database to ensure you never miss out on a funding opportunity. Projects from 300+ procurement sources are actively posted to devex.com, and keeping with the local trend, you’ll now find more subcontracting opportunities than ever before.

As the world’s leading media enterprise covering global development, we’re focused on connecting you to senior development leaders and their top priorities, so you can keep them on your radar too. In 2013, we brought you an exclusive look at conversations with key influencers like EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva and BRAC Founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, among others.

USAID contractors worked with Devex to conduct a brand and market awareness survey to better understand their brand per-ception and competitive landscape.

The conversations sparked at development conferences like the United Nations General Assembly and Clinton Global Initiative annual meetings, Social Good Summit, and BCLC impact the development agenda for all of us. Reporting live from each of these events, Devex global correspondents brought you to the middle of the action at these and many other convergences throughout the year.

Recruitment & Careers

Recruitment strategies have undergone changes this year as developing countries are increasingly taking charge of their own development. In October, 300 professionals and 45 exhibiting organizations gathered in Nairobi for a day focused on bridging the gap between international organizations and local job seekers.

We also hosted our 5th annual career fair in Washington, D.C., connecting more than 1,000 development practitioners.

Our members with a Recruitment Account wanted a way to search the world’s largest database of development professionals more quickly. With a few enhancements to our people search tools, you can now find the talent you need, faster. Three times faster in fact. We also implemented new technology that pulls in data from candidate CVs so that you can tap into a broader pool of qualified candidates without changing the way you search.

Global development recruiters speak a language sometimes only other development recruiters understand. To ensure our members get the support they need, we’ve connected this community within our community through an exclusive discussion board on LinkedIn, and tripled our recruitment coverage in 2013 to include more insight and critical analysis on hiring trends, and advice for finding the right talent for projects, proposals and staff positions.

As we shift towards a more localized aid landscape, establishing local partnerships has become a critical piece of the development puzzle for international organizations. This is a theme we explored extensively throughout our news coverage this year in addition to convening more than 500 individuals from 26 countries around the world, representing major international donors, private sector companies, NGOs and local Kenyan organizations, at the first ever Devex Partnerships Forum in Nairobi.

Recruitment & Careers Partnerships & Strategic Communications

The 4th annual 40 under 40 awards were held in the Philippines this year to honor young, Manila-based leaders for their influence and ability to make an observable impact on development.

In September 2013, we hosted Land Matters. This month-long campaign used the Devex platform as a catalyst to spark a global conversation between more than 15 million individuals on the importance of land rights for development, and to celebrate the thought leadership of our seven partner organizations in this area.

Devex will continue to collaborate with development actors to highlight more issues like this, starting with She Builds- a campaign dedicated to the fundamental role of women in development- in Spring 2014.

On the occasion of the White House Correspon-dents’ Dinner, Devex members came together with guests of Foreign Affairs Magazine and the UN Foundation for “It’s A BIG World After All”, the first annual celebration of international affairs journalism. Margaret Warner, Andrea Mitchell, Alan Greenspan, and Raj Kumar listen to

for a successful post-2015 agenda. Our members got an inside look at this year’s

conference in Brussels, where Devex was once again the official media partner.
