Bud Jones is just one of many who have as-sumed responsibility for care and maintenance of the shelter building and grounds, but who are rarely seen or heard. Bud is shown here trimming, and also sprayed for weeds. But you might also catch Dan Daniels, Larry Macha, Art Chapman, Mitch Phillips or any one of a whole lot of folks who do chores with donated time with little or no recognition. It takes an incredible amount of volunteer hours to keep things running and maintained. Thanks to everyone who pitches in to do their part. Until you’re all be t t er pa i d , please accept a f e w d o g g i e kisses!

Speaking of Unsung Heroes and volun-teers who get little recognition, it’s ‘way past time to talk about the many contri-butions made by Ona Chapman. Ona teaches at the Iola Middle School and has been selling lollipops there for the past four years to benefit the ACARF coffers. The lollipops are also sold at Jump Start. For every $1.00 lolli-pop sold, ACARF receives almost 70 cents. She’s very quick to point out that the credit for the $7,000 she’s raised in the last four years should go to the stu-dents and the school administration (Jack Stanley and Terry Lower) who have been very supportive. The lolli-pops are sold at all the Middle School
ballgames, as well as Puppy Chow and Rice Krispie treats (cut into the shape of bones) made in her kitchen. Besides those individual efforts, she also is part of the Fundraising Committee, and is well ac-quainted with the inside work-ings of the Concession Trailer. And, as you might well guess, she is just a very fine person!
Thanks for everything, Ona!Thanks for everything, Ona!Thanks for everything, Ona!Thanks for everything, Ona!

Robyn’s
Pet of the Week
King is an absolutely beautiful young adult male Husky/Shepherd mix. He has manners befitting his royal name, as he is very calm and polite. King's gorgeous coat is a wonderful multicolored mix of black, brown, gray, white, rust, and tan. His eyes are a warm, golden brown and speak volumes about his sweet and friendly nature. King would make a lovely companion to someone who is single, or a perfect addition to a growing family.

When you adopt a pet, you’re rescuing two;
the one you adopt and the one who takes its
place.
