By: Kim Russell Comenta

that occur in Honolulu

Page 3: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

In Honolulu you

have a 1 in 30

chance of

becoming a victim

of any crime

I’ve tried to look for other ways people have tried to prevent crimes in Hawaii

Seattle have established a program called Block Watch – A program based on the principle that neighbors working together are the first and best line of defense against crime.

Page 6: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

Community watch is undoubtedly one of the

oldest and most well known crime prevention programs in

history

Page 7: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

This Program Requires Two Commitments:

Page 8: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

First: A commitment to be concerned about your neighbor’s property and well being as well as your own.

Page 9: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

Second: A commitment to report suspicious activity and take action by alerting your neighbors and calling 9-1-1

Neighborhood or community

watch programs often go by

a various names and include

both nationally recognized

and small-town organizations

Page 12: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

The funding of community watch

programs is nearly always a joint

venture between the local police

department and the program

members through their fund-

raising activities.

Page 13: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

In the US, block watches are

usually run by a block captain

who is responsible to a block

coordinator or block organizer

According to a study done by The

Crime Prevention Research

Review, Nearly all findings

concluded that all areas

associated with a neighborhood

watch pointed to lower levels of

crime in the area.

My Own Solution to

Lower The Crime

Rate in Hawaii

Page 17: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

Organize Campaigns like “Block

Watch” to Encourage

Community Members to

Participate in Preventing Crime

in their Place.

Page 18: Design solution presentation 1 (Crime Prevention)

Talk to Local Leaders of the

community and Present a plan

and result on how a “Block

Watch” program would be of

Benefit to their community.
