FOCUS ON SOLVING THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS.

DAY 1

GOALS & ANTI-GOALSAPPROXIMATE TIME: 30 mins

MATERIAL: Whiteboard, markers, large sticky pad, sharpies

SIZE: 3-10

HOW:

1. Draw two columns on whiteboard - “Goals” & “Anti-Goals”

2. Start with “Goals”, and ask the team to brainstorm a goal of the project. The goal

should be high level objective, not feature.

3. Discuss each goal, refine wording and agree. If not, consider moving it to anti-goals

column

4. List 5- 10 goals and then vote and prioritize for the top 3 goals. Underline and

highlight the #1 goal.

5. Capture top 3 goals and anti-goals on a large sticky pad with sharpie and post for

references for future exercises.

WHO/DOAPPROXIMATE TIME: 20-30 mins

MATERIAL: Whiteboard, markers

SIZE: 3-10 (if more than 5, recommend split into pairs/teams)

HOW:

1. Draw two columns on Whiteboard: “Who”, “Do”

2. Write a list of “Who” could be using the product

3. For each who, write: What do they need to do, or do differently?

What do they need to do for this project to be successful? Under the “Do” column

4. Group by similarities and prioritize by using one of the “Ideation prioritization”

exercises

TIPS:

For the “Who”, think who are the stakeholders? Whose support is critical to this project’s

success?

DAY 2

GENERATING AS MANY IDEAS AS POSSIBLE.

POST-IT IDEATIONSAPPROXIMATE TIME: 30-45 mins

MATERIAL: 3x5 cards, tape, markers

SIZE: 3-8

HOW:

1. Define a specific problem to brainstorm around “How do we…”

2. 5 mins of silence and individually generate ideas to solve the specific problem

3. Go around and post each idea on one card on wall

4. Group by similarities and prioritize by using one of the “Ideation prioritization”

exercises

MATERIAL: marker, dot stickers

HOW:

1. Determine what you are voting for

2. Each participant gets a fixed number of dot stickers or votes

3. All participants place their votes all at once

4. Prioritize based on votes

5. Discuss if necessary

Use “Super Vote” to break ties
