The Dragons still yet to really prove themselves as one of the top sides welcomed the Barons to the Den needing to improve on the 0-5 Coventry loss the week before. The Dragons were the better side for the majority of the game and collected the 2points in a thriller. 5-4 the game ended with goals by James Parsons, Dan Söderberg, MVP Shaun Kippin and 2 from the excellent Si Furnival

Coaches Corner

Good evening and welcome to the DRAGONS DEN, tonight’s game sees the Dragons face off against the Solihull Barons who so far have had some mixed results. The Barons have been widely tipped as favourites for the title this season after making some very good summer signings but have struggled so far to challenge last seasons champions, the Nottingham Lions so far losing twice against them.

After last weeks disappointing performance and result we will be hoping to bounce bad and have a four point weekend and last nights comfortable win verses Blackburn Eagles saw us start on the right foot. This will be only our second game against one of the top three teams and we want to join that group and make it four top teams but to do that we must also be able to take the 2 points from them!

All the guys are disappointed that our unbeaten run has come to an end and are determined after last nights win to start a new run of unbeaten games.

Team News

Matty Wainwright will hopefully be back in training this week but Gez Lewis is still some weeks away from returning, so both unavailable. Pete Gazda has been ill the last few days but hopes to return tonight after missing yesterdays win, another player missing last night was Pete Founds who hopes to also return tonight.

Signing off

Like every home game, support the lads and make some noise as your support is greatly needed - big shout out to the James Brown Dancers – Quality

Yankin’ Off with Dave Griffiths

The BASN and Yankin' Off presenter brings you the latest in North American sport! Did you miss us at the last game? (What do you mean, "miss who"?!)For those who don't follow us on twitter (@yankinoff), we were at the NFL International Series game in Wembley. Or at least, the first of this year's games. And it was a classic. Minnesota Vikings battled the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams arrived in London with an 0-4 record. It was all to play for. If you caught the end of the game on Channel 4, you'll have seen the last gasp effort of Ben Roethlisberger and his Steelers. Seven points behind with a minute on the clock and no time outs remaining. His incredible drive would end on the Vikings six yard line with ten seconds left on the clock, courtesy of a fumble. For a few moments, we expected overtime. Plus, we were sat right on top of the Vikings goal line, surrounded by traveling Minnesotans, which made the closing minutes so much more dramatic. It was an incredible game. Tickets are still available for the Jacksonville Jaguars v San Francisco 49ers on 27th October (if you're going, give us a shout and we'll see you there!)This week, the NFL announced an unprecedented three games at Wembley for next year - the home teams being Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. It's a step closer to the mooted London franchise that becomes a hot topic every International Series weekend. Personally, i think the UK fans have a much larger appetite for individual games with rotating teams than for a London home team, but NFL fans remain divided. Which would you rather see? A London franchise? Or an expanded International Series? Let us know on twitter @yankinoffListen to the Yankin' Off podcast at yankinoff.podomatic.com or on iTunes.

Junior Signings Strengthen Dragon’s League Position

Holding an unbroken 4 out of 4 in the league the Dragons needed to secure this week’s game against the Blackburn Eagles last Sunday and icing 5 talented under 18 players paid off for coach Steve Fellows.

Junior talent Gavin Austin, assisted by Shaun Kippin opened the Dragons score sheet for a high scoring, but well -mannered game and paved the way for team-mate Dan Söderberg and Kippin to do what they do best and score those goals. In a pass that any good dictionary might define as “see Kippin and Anderson”, the dynamic duo demonstrated to the home crowd why this week’s mix of new talent and experience worked.

With 2 more from Marc Lovell and Chris Jones the Dragons ended the 1st with a very strong 5 – 0 lead.

The second saw a cautious side to the Dragon’s nature, the lads tempering themselves against the Eagles pressure suppressing any chance of them to get on the board, keeping the game firmly in the attack zone. Anderson and Kippin delighted the fans again, collectively racking up 5 goals and 7 assists.

But in the end, the highlight of the game had to be Al McPhee’s first senior goal of his career, proving Fellows’ pre-match prediction of the juniors increasing the ‘strength and depth’ of the Dragons play. The final buzzer saw a 10-0 win to the Dragons, keeping them at pole position in the league.
