Our Mission We are a Eucharistic community committed to living the teachings of Jesus. Founded in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, we share the responsibility to build the Reign of God. Core Values: Worship — Justice — Vision — Dignity

THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

(THE CHRISTMAS PROCLAMATION) From the Roman Martyrology

The twenty-fifth day of December, when ages beyond number had run their course from the creation of the world when God in the beginning created heaven and earth and formed humanity in his own likeness; when century upon century had passed since the Almighty set his bow in the clouds after the Great Flood, as a sign of covenant and peace; in the twenty-first century since Abraham, our ancestor in faith came out of the Ur of the Chaldees; in the thirteenth century since the People of Israel were led by Moses in the Exodus from Egypt; around the thousandth year since David was anointed King; in the sixty-fifth week of the prophecy of Daniel; in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad in the year seven hundred and fifty-two since the foundation of the city of Rome; in the forty-second year of the reign of Caesar Octavian Augustus; the world being at peace, JESUS CHRIST, eternal God and Son of the eternal Father, desiring to consecrate the world by his most loving presence was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and when nine months had passed since his conception, was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem of Judah and was made human: The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh.

Celebration of the Eucharist

Weekend Saturday Vigil: 5:30 PM Sunday 9 AM & 11 AM

Weekdays: 8:30AM Monday Tuesday Wednesday & Friday

Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday at 4:30 PM or by appointment

Dear Parishioners, I want to take this opportunity to wish you a blessed Christmas. It is hard to believe that the great feast of Christ’s birth is upon us. It seems as though just a few days ago we were in the midst of the countdown with panic in our hearts that everything that needed to be accomplished would in fact happen in time for what it is we celebrate today. The twinkling lights have been on display, the Christmas specials are in abundance on TV and the carols have been playing 24/7. You may well remember the school pageants, concerts and plays, blankets and bed sheets used for costumes. All of this tugs at our consciousness of a baby born in Bethlehem. At the very core of this singular life-changing birth is a simple truth; Jesus the Christ appeared first to poor shepherds. His presence calls us to live temperately, justly and devoutly. As we gather with family and friends this Christmas, may we remember who we are and whose we are. Let us not forget our roots or the source of our salvation. On behalf of the entire parish staff, our Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Council that help direct the life of our parish, I wish you and your family a blessed and holy Christmas. May God bless you abundantly with peace.

Sincerely,

Fr. Tom Dragga

Food Basket Thanks Many thanks to all who contributed to the Christmas food basket project in any way. Nearly 160 households received generous amounts of food, hygiene and cleaning items, paper products, hams or turkeys, and Giant Eagle gift cards. Special thanks to the Solon Stampede traveling baseball team for the successful curbside drive in Solon, to all the businesses and groups who brought in food donations, and to all who gave time and muscle to help sort, pack and deliver the baskets. Many thanks to Barb Ballock for your able coordination of this project!

THANK YOU! Despite the rainy weather, Live Nativity 2016 was a huge success. The presentation was wonderful. Everyone enjoyed the food and music in Trivision Hall. Thank you to all of you who participated. The list is long, from those who dressed in costume and participated in the presentation to those who helped decorate the hall and prepared food and cleaned up the kitchen at the end of the evening - thank you so much! It could not have happened without you. If you are interested in joining our committee we would love to have you. Our next event is Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 28th. Watch the bulletin for details. -Cathi Petersen, Special Events Committee

(4) We commit ourselves to serve others and reach out to the poor in response to their needs. Our work for justice extends to advocating with integrity for positive change in society and the Church.

Special Event Please mark your calendar! The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Office of Ministry to African American Catholics invites you to This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement on Thursday, January 19, 2017 (7:00 p.m.) at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, 2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood, OH 44122. This Light of Ours exposes the historic Civil Rights Movement’s struggle against race-based disenfranchisement through remarkable black and white photographs. The striking images from the center for Documentary Expression and Art are the work of nine very different photographers who lived within the Southern Freedom Movement and documented the stories and experiences of its less recognized heroes---the local people and student activists who bravely stood up to change America. This is a wonderful opportunity in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement; the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee on African American Affairs will release a series of resources to highlight the achievements of the Civil Rights era and its connections to the Catholic Church. We will begin our evening with light refreshments then tour the exhibition. (Tickets for event per person $20.00) To reserve your tickets contact [email protected] I hope you will join in celebrating the diversity of the human experience though this important exhibition.

Postcard Campaign on the Death Penalty In a letter to the President of t h e I n t e r n a t i o n a l Commission Against the Death Penalty, Pope Francis expressed the Catholic Church's opposition to the death penalty, saying, among other things, “The death penalty is contrary to the sentiment of humanitas and to divine mercy, which must be the model for human justice. … There is discussion in some quarters about the method of killing, as if it were possible to find ways of 'getting it right'. … But there is no humane way of killing another person”. Despite this message and a three-year defacto moratorium on executions, during which there was no spike in murders, Ohio plans to resume executions in January beginning with Ronald Phillips. The social justice commission invites you to sign a postcard to Governor John Kasich asking him to stop the resumption of executions. Just sign your name and leave the postcard in the basket. We will provide postage. These postcards along with other information about the death penalty can be found in the gathering area. Thank you.

Labyrinth Prayer Path All are invited to usher in the New Year of 2017 with a walking prayer experience at the Church of the Resurrection. We will host a full-size canvas replica of the labyrinth from Chartres Cathedral on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 11 AM to 8 PM. Come at any time during the day, no need to register. Plan to spend about an hour walking this meditative prayer path. The labyrinth is an archetype found in religious traditions in various forms around the world. By walking a replica of the labyrinth which was laid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral around 1220, we are rediscovering a long forgotten tradition. The labyrinth has only one path so there are no tricks to it and no dead ends. The six petals of the rosette are symbolic of the six days of creation. The outer border is a design of circles or lunations which

holds within it 12 circles representing the months of a year. The path winds throughout and becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives. It can touch our sorrow and release our joys. We walk it with an open mind and an open heart and just notice….
