2012 DECEMBER SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

Our Sunday School Christmas Program is entitled, “A Traditional Christmas Pageant:” and will be held on Sunday, December 16th at 10:30 am. Come see our students perform and sing your favorite Christmas carols! Practices will be held on Sundays, December 2nd and 9th from 9:00 am until 10:15 am. Please make sure your kids are there and if they aren’t able to be there, let us know so we can juggle the parts around. We’re asking that they come a little bit early so we can do costume fitting and practice singing. Dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday, December 15th at 3:00 pm. All our actors, readers, and animals will have on last chance to practice. We can use all the extra help we can get during this busy season. If you can help with stage design, props, or costumes, please let us know. There is no Sunday School on Sundays, December 23rd and 30th. A blessed holiday season to all! We start our new year out on January 6th, 2013 with our Winter Rally – watch for details. Our first rotation of 2013 is “The Prodi-gal Son” followed by “Ten Men Healed” in February and March and “The Sower” in April. On our Sunday School wish list is help in our Movie Room. We need speakers, etc. in our favorite room. Please contact Joyce if you have suggestions or can help in any way. Thanks so much.

Beginning December 2, 2012 we will be adding an 8am service. This will not affect times for our 9:15 Sunday School or our 10:30am

service, so we are expecting it to fit in nicely with what we already offer here at Peace. As of right now the decision has been made to give this new service time several months of life and evaluate how it fits into worship life together around Easter. Please let us know by voting with your presence.

Meeting was called to order by Vice President, Tom Perry.

Devotional Time was given by Pastor Matthew Rose.

Treas. Sandy Kashmark, Koel Seifert, Diane Puchalski.

Members Absent: Derek Getz, Patricia Shervey, Terry Volker.

Secretary's Report was motioned for approval by Nancy, 2nd by Jennifer and carried.

Treasurer's report was presented by Sandy. After some discussion, it was motioned by

Diane to approve it, with Jennifer 2nd to the motion, carried.

Pastor's Report was given. Highlights of his report included the 2013 Mystery Mission

Trip - Sign up will take place in November to allow for plenty of time to plan and prepare

for it. -- He has been in contact with the post office about sending post cards to Barrett

zip code residents to invite them to worship with us. -- Release time is going well; there is

more time spent with the kids now that we have our own transportation. -- Confirmation

class is made up of 12-13 students. This is a huge class; Pastor is looking for an adult

helper. -- Nursing Home services are once a week. -- He has been spending a lot of time

with a few people rather than the same time with lots of people; this changes with seasons

and happenings in people's lives.

Old Business: Bus - warranty work is being done right now and should be done this

week. We will send a Thank you to Beyer’s Tire Repair in Elbow Lake for the donated

tire.

The budget meeting has been rescheduled for Oct. 14, 2012 after church services.

New Business: Offering a second service was discussed. Jennifer motioned to move

forward with scheduling a second service at 8:00am beginning Dec. 2, 2012 if all the logis-

tics can be worked out by then. Nancy 2nd the motion, carried.

Snow removal: Tom volunteered to talk to one of our members to see if he is interested in

doing it again Church laptop: Pastor Matthew mentioned that the laptop is four years old.

It is getting outdated and slow - we may need to replace it soon.

It was brought up that the sound quality is not always good on the TV broadcast of ser-

vices. There is really not much we can do about it - can try to turn up the speakers.

Nancy motioned to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Craig, carried.

Closing prayer was led by Pastor Matthew.

The Holiday Train is Coming Again!

Holiday Trains, decorated with thousands of Christmas lights, runs in partner-

ship with the Canadian Association of Food Banks (CAFB) and U.S. food shelves and

pantries associated with local communities, neighborhood services and organizations

such as the Second Harvest Heartland and the Emergency Food Shelf Network to

raise donations and awareness for the issue of hunger. The Holiday Train program

allows employees, customers and communities to come together to help people in

need.

The Holiday Train is scheduled to be at the Elbow Lake Main Street rail-

road crossing from 4:30—5:30pm on Saturday, December 15th. Remember to dress

warmly and bundle up the little ones in snowsuits, mittens and caps.

This is an opportunity for the Grant County residents to enjoy a good show and

make donations of food and money to the local Food Shelf. Gifts to the Food Shelf

are tax deductible, and donations made by check are easily documented for the IRS.

Camp, Campus, and Congregations

Working Together Nurturing Faith and Life of the Next Generation of Christians!

Through our shared ministry with Lutheran Camps and Campuses in our area, the lives of Youth

and Young Adults, are being changed for the better.

Luther Crest’s 2012 theme of HOPE reminded both campers and staff to “be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” Lu-

ther Crest grounds itself in the power of Christ who is our HOPE in all Situations at all times. Our summer consisted of

over 850 youth and adults hearing, tasting, seeing, feeling and smelling God’s love in many different ways.

“Jennifer” was a new camper to Luther Crest. It was her first time away from home. Her

mom said she had “jitters” about being away in an unfamiliar place. Despite these obstacles,

Jennifer gave it her all. She go to know her fellow cabin mates and her counselor. Because

of the support and prayers you provide, Jennifer was able to overcome her fears and experi-

enced camp to the fullest Being welcomed with love, care, guidance, forgiveness and 120

total hours of Christ immersion at Luther Crest gave Jennifer the experience which taught

her about who Jesus is in her life and age her the confidence to grow in her faith. Stories of

HOPE happen all the time at Luther Crest. We know and tell the story that Jesus is the

HOPE that drives us to love one another.

Stories and lives like this are a regular part of the ministry to the next generation of Christians from throughout our

area, and are an important part of our Church’s future. As the Bible Camps, and Campus Ministries of your area

we ask that, as you feel called, you support, through prayers, volunteering, and of course financial gifts these min-

istries and others doing God’s work on your behalf in the lives of young people.

Stewardship of the Good News

Dear friends,

With this letter is a small devotional leaflet for the Advent season. Like Lent, Advent is a time of preparation. Where Lent looks toward the cross and resurrection, Advent looks toward the Nativity. We think of this time of year as a shop-ping season in preparation for gift giving, but in the history of the church this has been a season of reflection, renewal and preparation to celebrate the mystery that God, who fashioned the universe, has entered into our world as a help-

less child.

WATCH PREPARE REJOICE

BEHOLD!!!

Like Lent it is a season that renews our attention to the care of the poor. There is not only gift giving with family and friends, but support for food pantries and soup kitchens, and warm socks for the homeless. Like Lent it is a season of prayer and worship. When we are surrounded by the atten-tion to gifts it is nice to focus on the heart of Christmas and the Giver who is our world’s true Lord.

This is a wonderful season of the year to do devotions at home with your family. Lighting an advent wreath, reading a scripture, saying the prayer of the week, opening an Ad-vent calendar, putting aside an offering for those in need, is a simple and rewarding time for keeping clear what Advent and Christmas are all about. Even when there are no chil-dren to sit with us at the table or sing an advent hymn with us, such small rituals are still wonderfully meaningful. They have a marvelous way of keeping our attention focused on those things which really matter.
