Around our Campus

Potential and Kinetic Energy

Students in Mrs. Torre’s ELA/social studies/science class worked through a lab

on potential and kinetic energy. Throughout the lab, students had to record

data, share observations with their lab partners, and explain the Law of

Conservation of Energy. All of this from a length of string and a button….!!!!!

Congratulations to David Moon and Theresa Knight for passing their

Adobe certification tests!

The Stacey Seniors are now Adobe Certified Associates in Visual

Communications using Photoshop CS4.

Lackland ISD Profile: Lesley Denny

By: Nicholas White, Stacey Freshman

Where is your hometown/where did you grow up? I grew up in San Francisco, California

Do you have a favorite childhood moment? My family used to go on long camping trips in our

Volkswagen van. We went all over the United States, and I remember how much fun we had on those

trips.

At what age did you get interested in technology, and how did you get interested? Technology as you

know it didn’t exist when I was growing up! I got my first home PC in 1995. I’ve always liked

figuring out how things work and solving problems. I think my interest in technology as a tool for

learning grew out of my desire to be a better teacher.

What high school and college did you go to? I went to Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in San

Francisco. I attended UT Austin and got my BA in History and my teacher certification at Wayland

Baptist University. I’m almost finished with a Master’s in Library Science degree from Sam Houston

State University

Do you have a family? I have one son, Wayne. He is a sophomore at Texas A&M Kingsville and has an

Army ROTC scholarship. I’m very close to my parents who moved to San Antonio when they retired.

My dog Earl is another member of my family. He’s a 14 year old border collie.

What do you like to do in your free time? I have been doing triathlons since 2007. I completed a half

ironman (1.2 Mile swim, 54 mile bike, and a ½ marathon) and I’m going to do full ironman in 2013. I

love to read and enjoy reading books on my Kindle or iPad.

Do you like any sports? Any favorite teams? I like participate in sports more than I like to watch them.

Besides swimming, road biking, and running, I like to ride my mountain bike. I like to go to college

or high school games (Go Longhorns!), but I don’t really like to watch sports on TV.

What is your favorite part of being a technology teacher? Technology changes so quickly that I am

always learning new things. I love teaching. I love the way technology has provided us with new ways

to learn. I love middle school and high school kids. I love my job! I think I have the best job at

Lackland ISD.

How long have you been working here at Stacey? I’ve been the middle and high school Instructional

Technologist for 8 years.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish here at Stacey, or have you already accomplished it? The

real goal of the instructional technologist is to help everyone learn and teach with technology like

experts! I’ll keep working to achieve that goal.

school in Havelock NC. I will be completing my bachelor’s degree in Early

Childhood Education (birth-kindergarten) at the end of this month. I have a 3 yr

The Lackland I.S.D. Child Nutrition Department would like to encourage all students to participate in our National School Lunch Program. As we strive to achieve a healthy lifestyle in providing nutritious meals and options for our students. We are now offering a full service

salad bar at our high school and a fruit and salad bar at our elementary school.

Together we can succeed in making healthier choices and instilling a health

conscious mindset for an active lifestyle.

Thank you, The Child Nutrition Department

FANTASY FOOTBALL UPDATE Break out the laminate and the super glue, Joshua Alvarez appears

unbeatable after recording a 150-point week! His reign at the top of the

leader board is practically permanent. The rest of the leader board

remains the same, though there is a tight race for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.

Next week will be the last week before the holiday, so students will have

to select starting line-ups for the rest of the season before break occurs.

A lot can happen at this late point in the football season. Check back to

see if the leader board remains the same, or if a shake-up finally

happens!

I Wish That I Could Wrap Up Christmas

I wish that I could wrap up all the love and Holiday cheer

That comes along with Christmas and with New Year's every

year,

Pack it in a pretty box and put it on my shelf

And pull it down again each year and give it to myself.

I wish that I could tie up all my favorite carols with twine,

Wind around some ribbon, too, and for twelve months call them

mine

Until the next Yuletide came when the sounds again could be

unfurled

And untie every single one then give them to the world.

Calling all of Santa's Helpers!

The Lackland Airmen Holiday Cookie Caper will be on Wednesday, December 21st at the Freedom Chapel (across from the BX). Cookie Drop Off will be from 6:00 to 9:00 am in the

chapel parking lot. Packaging will be in the chapel kitchen from 8:00 to 11:30 am.

Bakers: Please bake up a storm! We need about 1500 dozen cookies since we are trying to provide cookies for Airmen in the dorms from BMT, Tech Training, 59MDW, AFISRA, 24AF,

67NWW, 688IOW and 802MSG. We ask that you refrain from using nuts of any kind because of allergies. While chocolate chip cookies are wonderful, please

considerdonating a variety of different types of cookies. If you aren't a baker and would like to contribute cookies from the store, we won't turn any cookies away.

We also need many, many elves to package the goods. We welcome all who enjoy holiday camaraderie and service to join us at the Freedom Chapel any time from 8:00 to 11:30 am.

PLEASE PASS THE MESSAGE ALONG TO ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE WILLING TO HELP!

Happy Holidays,
