Tess is a longhair dachshund who isjust about perfect in every way. She isaffectionate, extremely intelligent andlearns in a hurry what is expected of her.Tess is patient and is not at all dominantor demanding. She knows when it’stime to eat and quietly goes to her ownplace to wait for her doggy meal.
Tess is seven years old and weighs12 pounds but really should lose onewhich puts her in the miniature dachs-hund category. Tess loves everyone, although being small she would do bestin a home without real young children
who might accidentally harm her. She gets alongvery well with the other dachsies in her fosterhome. Although Tess came from a “backyardbreeder” where she was used to produce puppies, she is house trained and enjoys going for walkswith her foster mom. She loves to explore in the
fenced back yard and it would be nice if her forever home had a fenced yard.Tess does have a bit of separation anxiety when confined alone to a smallarea but does fine when left on her favorite dog bed with her canine friendswhen her foster mom leaves for work. She will probably be happiest in ahome where someone is around much of the time and where there is at leastone other friendly small dog for her to cuddle with.
Since she is a breed with the long back and very short legs (chondrody-strophic), she should be discouraged from jumping on and off furniture asthis breed of dog is much more prone to back injuries. The ideal home forTess will be dachshund savvy and use pet stairs or ramps to safely enabletheir dachshunds to get on and off their favorite chair or bed without riskinga ruptured disc from jumping. Dachshunds should never be allowed to climbup and down flights of stairs for this same reason.
Tess is now spayed and up to date with shots; She had a much neededdental and is heartworm and intestinal parasite free and microchipped. Formore information about Tess find us on Facebook or our website:www.smalldogsminnesota.org
For more information on adopting Tess find us on Facebook or on our website: www.smalldogsminnesota.org
