Today
1. First Impressions
2. We will discuss the allusions from "Flight" to better understand Sherman Alexi's story. Group 1 and 2 will give their presentations. All other Groups should share their presentation with Mrs. Belland/Mrs. DeCent by midnight tonight. [email protected].

4. Discuss Alexi's characterization of Zits

Response Journal #1
Step 1. Students divide their page vertically, leaving a one-third column on the left-hand side of the paper, and two-thirds of the page available for the right-hand side.
Step 2. In the left-hand column, students record direct quotations (with page number), summaries and/or clear references to the text. In the right-hand column, students
write their reactions to the selected text.
Step 3
In the right-hand column, students must:
1. make predictions, ask questions
2. draw connections between the literature and their personal experiences.
3. analyze the work, showing how the passage chosen demonstrates the use of a literary device such as allusion, conflict, characterization, irony, tone, etc.
4. draw a connection between the passage chosen and another literary work or piece of art, music or film.

For the future chapters, you should come every day with a quote you have chosen from your reading to respond to.
Today, I will give you some choices that can serve as examples for your future choices. Choose a quote with the journal response prompts in mind.
