Third Sunday in AdventShepherds

The third square removed from the Advent banner reveals a shepherd and his sheep. There were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch over their flock by night. An angel of the Lord stood by them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid. The angel said unto them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Christ the Lord.” Luke 2: 8-11

The Bell Group

The Bell Group were invited to play carols at Irby Christmas Fair last Saturday. They are now

on their Christmas break and will resume weekly practices on Friday, 18th January.

A big thank you to everyone who helped process shoe boxes at the warehouse during November

and early December. Especially Doreen, Gill and Arthur, Jill P, Sally, Ronnie, Diane, Sheelagh, Carol & John, and Steve who was in his counting house. 8,000 shoe boxes went to Swaziland and 3,150 went to Romania.

You will see on page 12 of The Beacon that our first quarter figures indicate that our weekly

collections are running behind target. This means that as from 2nd December a 12% increase in our current giving is now required to restore the situation by the end of our financial year. On the following pages in The Beacon there is an article by John Ellis “Exploring Devotions – The Grace of Giving”. Please reflect prayerfully on both articles and help restore our finances so that our church can proceed with its Mission in confidence.Simon Dobson
