Daily Deal Sites

Provides a small sample of Daily Deal sites available in the US. Daily Deal sites can be categorized as being “generic” or “niche”. Where niche sites provide deals on industry or category specific products or services.

More sites! More sites from online publishers, newspapers, radio stations and media companies with large audiences.

Large Online Media Deals

Shows the Daily Deals from large online entities. This is a separate category because these companies have the ability to impact the market in a significant way.

As the Daily Deal space becomes more mainstream, look for more online media companies to launch Daily Deal services.

Publisher Deals

This category simply shows the Daily Deals from large publisher companies. Such as Newspapers, magazines, radio, online portals, etc. This is a separate category because the companies within have such a large local audience and can impact the Daily Deal landscape.

Daily Deals will simply become another marketing vehicle that local merchants can utilize to reach their customers. Daily Deals are just another form of advertising and local publishers are realizing this more and more. Since they already have a large local audience and a sales force offering local merchants advertising, providing Daily Deals is a natural progression for publishers.

Aggregators Shows sites that collect deals from many Daily Deal sites and present them as a summary user experience. Instead of receiving many emails from numerous Daily Deal sites, consumers can simply receive 1 email from their chosen aggregator.

More aggregators. Those media companies that do not wish to provide their own Daily Deals, will, at the very least, provide Daily Deal aggregation. For instance, both Bing and Yahoo opted for aggregation. There will also be aggregators that will provide deals for a specific niche.

Technology Platforms

This category represents the technology platforms that are now used to run a Daily Deal site. Publishers no longer need to focus on building their Daily Deal platform. Instead they simply pay one of these companies a % of sales and they gain access to world class Daily Deal technology.

It now makes little sense to develop, build , support, maintain, upgrade and customize your very own Daily Deal site. Instead, Daily Deal platforms are used in the “cloud” and provide publishers with a robust technology platform to run Daily Deals. All they ask is a small % of sales. These platforms will enable the launch of even more Daily Deal sites going forward.

Advertising This category presents technology companies that offer advertising solutions that Daily Deal site owners need or could use as they advertise and market their deals to the consumer. Every thing from ad networks, to ad management, to mobile advertising.

Much like the online advertising or ecommerce industries, there will be an every increasing line up of technology services available for Daily Deal site owners to use in order to market and manage their online advertising. This category presents technology companies that offer some kind of product or service that Daily Deal site owners need or could use within their operation. Every thing from email services to POS solutions.

As the Daily Deal space matures, so will the technology solutions that are offered for it. There will be an ever increasing line up of software services and products available for Daily Deal site owners to use in order to manage their operations more effectively. (Web, Mobile, POS, Search, Ads, etc)

Social Tools This category simply highlights the social media tools that are used by Daily Deal sites to get the word out about Deals. They are a crucial part of the ecosystem.

Look for Social tools to be used for more than simply listing deals or sharing deals. Engagement of the audience is key. The more an audience participates, be it for a contest, an experience, for buying with friends, or a special event, the more effective the promotion will be.

Deal Distributors & Exchanges

The category showcases the various ways that Deals can be found and exchanged by both Daily Deal sites and Aggregators.

Again, very much like the Online Advertising industry, services have launched (exchanges) where Daily Deals can be shared, adopted, exchanged with other Daily Deal site owners. The goal, to share and use Deal inventory in a more effective and profitable way. Those who use deal inventory become affiliates and get paid on every sales that they helped generate.

Research & Consulting

Shows the various companies that provide professional services for this industry. Every industry requires best practices and expert advice. These firms provide consulting services, analysis of the space, research or events.

More services will be offered. Daily Deal best practices will be a staple for Retail consultants, more research and data will also be provided for the Daily Deal industry. Look for those who already provide these services for the advertising or ecommerce space to also offer them for Daily Deals.

Data Those who provide data, numbers and analytics. As an industry matures, this information become crucial.

Look for Daily Deal data to be as standard as data on online, ecommerce or couponing behavior.Those who already provide data for ecommerce or couponing will also provide data for Daily Deals.

Merchant Services

Merchants require efficiencies in managing coupons, online sales, loyalty programs or other promotional vehicles. Managing Daily Deals is no different. It requires efficiency. As such, there are numerous services that are being offered to merchants in order to create such efficiencies.

As the Daily Deals space continues to grow and reach millions of small businesses and retailers, there will be a need for technologies and services that help manage the Daily Deal process for these merchants. Look for companies who already provide technologies and services to local retailers to enter the Daily Deal space. (Web, Mobile, POS, in store services, admin services, etc)

Consumer Services

With millions of consumers using Daily Deal vouchers, it is inevitable that services are created in order to make the Daily Deal buying, managing and using process better.

Look for further services to launch that help consumers manage their Vouchers more effectively. Including mobile, voucher management, voucher reselling, social buying among others.
