Scorching with service and spirit, Ailina Heng Lieutenant Governor

Hello, Phoenixes! Can you believe we're already in February? That means that

this term ends in officially 51 days. That's less than two months away! It feels like

just yesterday I was writing my first 'Words from the LTG' introducing myself to all

of you. Well I shall say we have accomplished a lot together as a division this

year. Many clubs were able to improve unlike ever before, and we've just seen

growth in so many individuals. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to serve

such an amazing division. This month we also learn who will be taking over my

position next year. That's so exciting to know! I'm really excited to begin training

the LTG elect, as all you officers should be excited training the next set of officers

taking over. It's an exciting experience, sharing with one another your accom-

plishments and mistakes and helping them to see how they can improve. That is

how growth in our division continues to happen. And to all the members in this

division, know that just because we only have 51 days left, that does not mean

we should stop doing service. We can still make an impact in the community in

those 51 days. I know many of you are getting tired from school, but don't stop

yet. Service should never stop. Continuing BEEing the best you can BEE ending

this year strong in service and in Key Club. I know we all can do it. So let's be sure

that when we all pass on the torch to the next year, let's make sure it's burning

hotter than ever so that the next term can continue making the flames grow

larger and larger. Let the fire of our service and spirit spread, and never let it die

down! We're Phoenixes! We burn up the skies because service never dies!

Tutoring By Crystal Wu, Rancho

In the beginning of the year, I wanted to help many of the

younger students with the resolution of getting better grades.

Lately, I have been tutoring some students twice a week in my

nearby middle school to help them understand algebra and

pre-algebra. Some of them have been doing better on their re-

takes, and they are twice as confident to take their semester

exams. I am happy to help them understand mathematics, and

I am excited to go back and ask how they did on their exams.

Hopefully they did well!

Magical Forest By Ashley Kim, Advanced Technologies Academy

During Winter Break, I went over to Opportunity Village to help

volunteer at Magical Forest! There at Magical Forest, I dressed

up to go assist around the forest. I was really fun, but also really

cold. My hands were frozen. However, I had a fun time help out

the forest. Some of the tasks I received is directing people to

their desired destination, keeping an eye out for the decora-

tions, which was donated by various organizations in Las Vegas,

and maintaining line order at the ticket booths. I was really

worth freezing because I got to hangout out with my fellow Key

Clubbers, while helping out the community. This event raises mil-

lions of dollars for disabled people. It certainly made my heart

full of joy that I helped out people that are in need of assis-

tance. Next holiday season, I will definitely tell all the Key Club-

bers I know to invest their time into volunteering here because

helping out and knowing that others will appreciate it, re-

ally does make your holiday season better.

Recently, me and our President, Patrick, volunteered at a water station on the course of

the Las Vegas Marathon. Our job was to help fill water cups and give them out once the runners

came. It took a lot of hard work to fill all the cups, especially with the cold wind sometimes spill-

ing the cups. We soon finished filling the cups and anxiously awaited for the runners to come. A

truck with the marathon soon came along and told us that the runners were to come soon. We

all sprang into our positions to hand out water. Then came the first runners, and we cheered

them on as they ran the course. After a slow start, more and more people began to arrive to our

water station, and we have to hurriedly hand out water. We soon got into the pace of it, alt-

hough there were those few cups that were held wrong and spilled by the runners. As they

passed by many had their home countries on their clothes, people from countries like Canada,

the UK, Japan, Argentina, and China all ran together. Soon, the numbers of runners began to

dwindle, and we began to clean up. The cups of water we had to painstakingly fill had to be

emptied since we had more than we expected. It was a lot of hard work to get the area

cleaned. All in all, even though it was cold and windy volunteering at this event was a great ex-

perience. We got to see first hand how our service helped to contribute to this event. It was a

good feeling to know that one person’s service can impact a community.

Club of the Month

M e m b e r o f t h e M o n t h K i m P i e r c e

I have nominated Kim Perce for Member of the Month. Kim has been a great help to

the club. When scheduling our fundraiser at Cane's she volunteered to call them and

set a date. She wasted no time and got back to me a few days later. If it wasn't for her

we wouldn't have had a great day for our members over some chicken fingers and

laughs. During our PB&J day we were running short on time with getting our supplies to

make the sandwiches. Then there was Kim willing to bring ten loaves of bread to an

event she couldn't even attend. I just want Kim to be recognized not only because

she's a senior, but because she's done a lot for Legacy Key Club over the years. She

deserves recognition.

Club Snapshots

The month of December was a cheery month, one that had holiday spirited volunteer op-

portunities. As we all got together in light of the holiday spirit, we helped those less fortu-

nate that may not be blessed enough to enjoy the holidays as much as we do. On the

twelfth day of December we had our holiday party. Each person that attended brought

something to aid in the party and we relished in the joy of the holidays and ate a lot of

good food. While we partied, some wrote letters to Santa to mail to the Macy's founda-

tion that donates money to the Make A Wish Foundation for each letter mailed. Later,

over the break, some members met up at the Holiday Spectactular for Springs Preserve to

help make young kids' holiday visions and dreams come true. Overall it was a joyous

month that included, may I add very fun, volunteer opportunities.

The month of December went by in a blink of the eye! We continued to have weekly

meetings with our members to update them on future service events, possible ones in

the future, and we also informed them about the upcoming board election in January

as well as Conclave in February. December was great! Although we had more individu-

al events in comparison to group events, our president made an effort to inform our

members to still actively participate in the wonderful projects organized by other clubs

at our school (such as donating perishable food, socks, and toys). It was also great to

know how our club plans to interact with different clubs in the future and collaborate

on possible events/socials. We still hope to have an event with our Kiwanis. As for now

our board is just preparing for the upcoming elections in January as mentioned before,

fundraisers that benefit our club and DCON, and more service events because SERVICE

NEVER DIES. In conclusion, this month of December was proof that service never dies

because of the dedication displayed by our amazing Key Club members through ser-

vice!
