Our Mission:Columbia Virtual Academy (CVA) supports family
choice education through the values of personalization, flexibility, choice, and control.
What is CVA?• CVA offers a highly flexible and personalized K‐12program to meet diverse family learning needs. Aparent or high school student with parentalguidance can take more or less control of thecurriculum through various curricular optionsincluding online courses or more traditional booklearning. Our intent is to listen to family needsand to design a program to match them.
• Any student in any Washington school districtmay enroll in CVA tuition‐free. Columbia VirtualAcademy offers the only totally public and sharedprogram in Washington State.
History
The Valley School District Board of Directorsestablished a small, local program in 2003 toserve the needs of families and of students who,for various reasons, chose not to attend atraditional public school. Once changes in statelaw opened the door for statewide enrollment inthe program as a virtual learning experience in2005, the program became Columbia VirtualAcademy in 2006 and other school districtscould become partners.
History• Sultan became a partner district in the spring of 2008. At that time, we offered the Calvert curriculum for students K‐8.
• For the 2011‐12 school year, Sultan has become a Level II partner district, meaning we are now responsible for a majority of the administration of our program.
• In addition to Calvert, we also offer a completely custom curriculum K‐12.
