We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53). How can we continually praise God? The answer can be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians 1:17). Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Community Our warmest welcome to all who celebrate with us. How may we serve you? If you would like to have your child baptized, have your marriage blessed in the church, have a Eucharistic minister visit someone who is ill, or have general questions, please call the Parish Office at: (661)252-3353. We are open Monday from 1:30 to 5pm and

Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5pm. We look forward to serving you!

P ARISH REGISTRATION forms are available in the front vestibule, side entrances of the church, and at

the parish office during regular office hours. In order for our priests to better serve you, especially at the time of baptism, marriage, or a funeral, it is most helpful if you are registered and participating in our parish community.

M ARRIAGE: The bride and/or groom must be registered and actively participating in the parish

for at least three months. Then, a six-month preparation program is required. Please call the office for further information.

H OSPITAL/HOME, HOLY COMMUNION, AND SICK VISITS: For Holy Communion, please contact the

parish office during office hours. A Priest or Eucharistic Minister will visit you and attend to your needs. In case of hospitalization, please inform the admissions office that you are Catholic, so that they will be able to notify us. In case of an emergency or death in the family, a priest can be reached 24 hours a day. Call the parish office number anytime for an emergency pager number.

The Ascension of our Lord SAINT CLARE PARISH Page 3

We have Adoration in the Chapel every Friday from 9:30am to 7:15pm. On First Friday

Adoration lasts throughout the night. Our lives are so busy, we could all use a little

quiet time with our Lord. Don’t just squeeze Him in, make your time with Him

a priority.

Tenemos adoración en la capilla todos los viernes de 9:30 a 7:15. Primer Viernes adoración dura toda la noche Nuestras vidas están tan ocupa-

dos, nos vendría bien un poco de tiempo tranqui-lo con nuestro Señor.

Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet - It’s not too late!

There are Spiritual Bouquet Mass cards available in the vestibules of the church and at

the parish office. Prayer is the best gift of all and no one needs prayers more than mothers! So

pick up a Mass card for the mother (or mothers) in your life.

(Remove the card from the inside of the envelope to give to your mother—fill out the “outer envelope” with their name—

check the boxes that apply—and we will place the envelopes on the altar during the week after Mother’s Day when we offer

Masses for the names on the envelopes. For those who are de-ceased, you can make a list to place in one envelope.)

Today is Mother’s Day! Take mom to breakfast after Mass

in the parish hall. St. Clare’s Youth Ministry is sponsoring breakfast today and moms eat free.

What a bargain! Pancakes, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit—

is on the menu and will be served with coffee and a smile! (and mom will be thrilled to spend the

morning with you!)

AND NEXT WEEK: Our Youth Ministry World Youth Day Pilgrims will be selling Kryspy Kreme donuts after each Mass. Buy one for $1.00 or a dozen for $10.00. Stop by their display

and meet our pilgrims who will be traveling to Poland this sum-mer for an international youth celebration and Mass with the

Holy Father, Pope Francis.

BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG

This weekend baby bottles will be distributed for the SCV Pregnancy Center. We

ask that you take them home, fill them with your change and return them by Father’s Day. All

change will be counted and donated to the SCV Pregnancy Center. As Catholics—we believe

in and promote the Right to Life!

The Knights will be hosting a free movie night on Friday, May 13 at 6:30 in Renehan Hall. Bring your family and friends for a fun evening! We’ll have free popcorn and drinks while we watch a family friendly movie. This time, we’ll be watching a movie about a busi-ness that scares because it cares. See you there!

Next Weekend The Knights of Columbus will host a food drive to restock the shelves of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. Please think of them while doing your own shopping . They will be collect-ing groceries and/or monetary dona-tions—made out to the SCV Food Pantry— before and after the Saturday

5:30pm Mass—before the 7pm Mass on Saturday and at all Masses on Sunday.

ROCK OUR YOUTH CENTER

EACH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY

AFTER THE 9AM MASS

Our seniors adjourn to the “Youth Center” after 9am Mass

where they play pool, dominos, knit/crochet, use the

computer lab, have coffee and goodies, solve the world’s

problems or just sit and visit with one another. Our “Knit

Wits” and “Happy Hookers” meet on Tuesdays to make

blankets and hats for several non-profit organizations that

serve those in need. You don’t need an invitation. Just

show up and meet new friends!

Each Sunday morning after the 7:30 and 9am Masses, join us in the plaza for coffee, juice, and goodies. This is a

great way to meet your parish family and make new friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

WHAT MAKES US “CHURCH”? Events That Have Shaped Us — Trends We Are Facing— Beliefs We Hold Dear Using the wisdom of others as well as our own reflections, this ses-sion will allow us an opportunity to reflect briefly on (1) the peak moments in our history that have made us what we are today; (2) current trends that impact our present-day experi-ence, leading us into the future; and (3) the core beliefs of our faith that sustain us, no matter what. Presented May 11 at 7:00-8:45 p. m. in Renehan hall by Joan Doyle, nationally certified parish leader. Come, listen, share, enjoy each other's company!

Gospel Reflection: Jesus calls us his gifts from his Father. Likewise, mothers are God’s gifts to us, His children. Mothers provide the unconditional love that Jesus expressed throughout his life. What does the R.E. program offer? General catechesis classes for children in grades 1-8. These courses provide the children with weekly Gospel readings, core Catholic teachings, and discussions of scared traditions. The classes utilize multi-media and crafts to meet the various learning styles of the children. Children, in need of receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist, are placed in classes which are age appropriate, and specialize in sacramental preparation. A child is in the sacramental preparation classes for 2 years. The Junior High program, for children in grades 7-8, focuses on exploring Catholic teachings to modern day issues and reinforcing the role of Christ in a teen’s life. In addition, we offer a Sunday pre-school program during the 9AM mass. This class is for young children between the ages 3-5.

New families: You will need to bring your child/children’s original baptismal certificate and be registered at St. Clare’s Parish for priority enrollment.

Feel a call to evangelize your faith and disciple to the youth of our parish?

Volunteer Catechist Information The Office of Religious Education is looking for men and women to join our ministry working with St. Clare families in bringing children and youth closer in relationship to Jesus Christ through sacramen-tal preparation classes, and general catechesis of the Roman Catholic Church. This ministry is active from late August to mid-May. Volunteer catechists commit to teaching once a week during the school year.

Teachers and aides are needed for grades 1-8. Training opportunities are available for all new catechists

The CRS Lenten Rice Bowls project provides funds for the nutritional, medical and educational needs of children in Colombia, Laos, Rwanda, Honduras and Madagascar. I am SO PROUD to share that through the generous donations of our R.E. families, our program is sending Catho-lic Relief Services a check for $2,042.63! THANK YOU!
