ABOUT CROATIA It is situated in South-East Europe at the crossroads of the Adriatic Sea and the Pannonian Plain

Croatia borders with Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Italy

Population of the country is 4.28 million peopleAlong the Croatian Adriatic coast there are more than a thousand islands

National anthem is „Lijepa naša domovino” (”Our Beautiful Homeland”)

Croatia became independant from Yugoslavia in 1991

CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL HERITAGEThe Croatian people have been inhabiting the area for fourteen centuries

It has been a crossroad of influences of the western and the eastern culture (since division of the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire)

FOOD AND MUSICEvery part of Croatia has its own culinary tradition

In the middle of Croatia you can see the impact of Austro-Hungarian and Turkish cuisine but along the Adriatic coast there’s a strong influence of Italian and French cuisine

Continental cuisine has more complex way of preparation and much more nutritious meals and groceries (meat, vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy products and eggs)

Coastal cuisine is primarily based on fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables and olive oil
